"....all dogs fight and all dogs bite its just that when a PITBULL bites they leave more damage than any other because of their powerful jaws, so it just seems like they are out to kill.

No stronger than a German Shepherd and less than a Rotty: "A lion's bite force measured 691, a shark 669, and a Rottweiler 328 psi pounds of force. A German shepherd came in at 238, and a pit bull's bite was measured at 235 psi pounds of force."

"... and they will fight another dog that is just a dogs instinct any dogs instinct is to protect."

Pitt bulls don't follow the "Dog Code of Ethics" which is when determining which dog is dominant the lesser dog rolls over on it's back and offers the other dog the opportunity to rip out their throat. That stops the fight for "normal" dogs. Pitt Bulls that I have observed over 30 years don't stop there and proceed to rip out the throat and/ or the intestines/ belly of the submissive dog. For that reason alone I think they are not good dogs to have around other dogs. I believe that this behavior is hard-wired and no amount of training or gentling will change this. So keep them on a leash while around other dogs.
Great that your 3 Pitt Bulls are gentle.
However what do you think about the large number of Pitt-Bull owners who are not such good dog owners with a dog who will fight to finish rather than until the dominance (pecking order) is established?

You are so correct. Pitt Bulls don't stop fighting like a normal dog would when dominance is established. Why? It's hard-wired into their brains by genetics.

Why is their face "pushed in?" So they can continue to breathe while biting and holding on.

My neighbor's Pitt Bull attacked my (much larger German Shepherd) and in response my dog flipped the Pitt Bull on it's back and placed his paw on it's chest to hold it in place; not biting on my dog's part!). The Pitt Bull kept trying to bite my dog for at least 10 minutes and it looked like an "Energizer Bunny" advertisement as it kept turning it's head back and forth and snapping it's jaws and eventually slowing until it finally stopped from fatigue.

The same Pitt Bull 6 months later cowardly attacked another dog I had while walking. It ambushed her from the rear after I called her to come and she was complying.

He and another neighbor's Pitt Bull pushed her into a bush sitting up and proceeded to try and eviscerate her; horrible!
She is only alive because I grabbed both Pitt bulls by the tail and tossed them in the opposite direction about 20 feet which seemed to break their blood lust. She subsequently developed abscesses from all of their bites and was left with visible scars on her lips, face and other places.

My sisters sister-n-law last week lost her 3 year old little girl in High Point North Carolina because their so called, sweet, loving pit bull who never showed any aggression killed her. 2 People every week are killed by Pit Bulls, Explain that!!

After reading all of the back and forth, this one was by far the best:
__________

I have been rescuing Pit Bulls for close to 20 years and have even volunteered with some of the local shelters/rescues to help foster Pits.

Although MOST have been perfectly harmless and never 'snapped', despite pasts of horrific abuse, I've encountered several that were extremely aggressive and were put to sleep because of it.

I have no problem euthanizing ANY aggressive dog. There are too many nice ones in the shelters who are being killed everyday to make room. The nice ones should have the first chance for a great home.

I have seen Pits who were raised in loving families who were extremely psycho for no apparent reason. My guess would be that they were 5th generation inbreds, or maybe have come from a long line of fighting dogs, or maybe 'just not right' in the head...who knows? Those are the types that should absolutely be put to sleep. I can't stand when you get these Pit Bull lunatics who think they're going to "change" an aggressive dog.
Can you change an abusive man if you love him enough? No. It's something programmed deep in their minds, personalities and genetics and there's not a damned thing you can do about it.

So it doesn't always go by how they're raised. I've seen this first hand. I've taken Pits who were beaten, burned and starved, who have been the most gentle, loving dogs for their entire life, so you just never know...it's a case by case basis.

So for people who always say "It's how they're raised"...What about the ones who HAVE been raised to fight and turn out to be great, gentle dogs? There goes your argument about how their raised.

I too hate the stereo typing of this breed. I'll defend the GOOD ONES til the end.

I have been bitten by Pits and I can promise you, it didn't hurt any more than the times I've been bitten by Labs, Chihuahuas, German Shepherds and a scruffy 12 pound Terrier mix. The Pits didn't keep biting, or not let go...That's just plain ignorance to think that.

Most Pits will keep fighting in a dog fight, but to think they're like that with humans is stupid.

The only thing I'm sure of is anyone who hates the breed has clearly never owned one and if it was for the drama-hungry media, Pit Bulls would just be "dogs".

NOT ALL PITBULLS ARE THE SAME. ITS THE WAY YOU TRAIN AND TREAT ANY DOG. HAVE COMMON SENSE. ALL DOGS HAVE ANIMAL INSTINCT ITS JUST THAT PITBULL'S HAVE A BAD REPUTATION. HOW SAD THEY ARE ONE OF SAFEST LOYAL LOVEABLE DOGS YOU CAN HAVE.
Have you ever heard of a Chihuahua or most other breeds killing children or attacking a small child and then proceeding to eat them or attacking person's for no reason. No. But, we hear of pitbulls doing that often. Really tired of the excuse that it's the owner. Tell that to the owner who loves their pitbull then says, "I don't understand. They are normally sweet" when their pitbull just attacked or killed someone. Tell them it's their fault. Now let's talk common sense.
