I had them come for a maintenance call a few years ago. They advertised that they only cleaned a/c's and didn't sell them. That made me feel safe. About 48 hours after the visit, my outside unit burned up. I called to them see wtf they had done. They came out to "fix" it for me. Of course, the unit needed to be replaced and they were going to sell it to me. What a fighting match that was. It was almost 100 degrees. They had me on the ropes, but, I prevailed in the end. I think that Mr. Slader was run out of Texas!

I second what everyone is saying. Claimed he would do a tune-up, didn't do anything but "find" $9000 worth of "repairs" that were needed or the system would fail (and we would get ill from mold poisoning). System is not old, was always maintained, shows no signs of malfunction, but I went for the $29.95 "deal.

When he finished, the system did not work, and it took him another 45 minutes to find and fix the problem -- if there was one, or if it was all part of the scam, I do not know. But I watched him look for the problem, and I used to be an electrical engineer, and what he was doing made so little sense that I am suspicious.

On his price list of needed repairs was $305 for a capacitor -- I didn't price them yet, but I suspect that $15 would buy one.

Anyway, like everyone says, STAY AWAY.

I've had a service agreement with Air Genie since 2010. They come to my home every six months. I had my air conditioners installed by another company. They were noisy and one of them always had water in the emergency drain pan. I told the owner about it and they couldn't fix it. The Air Genie came out and made a simple adjustment at no charge and the problem went away. I had the other company replace all the ductwork when they installed my air conditioners. They actually told me when they were done that they knew I didn't have enough return air for the size system they installed, but that there wasn't enough room for it! After paying $30,000 for two new systems with ductwork, that was a big disappointment. The Air Genie technician took all of about 30 seconds to know what to do and one day later I had all the air I needed! I don't know what all these complaints are about. They always give me a list of every little thing they see in my air conditioners and let me decide what I want to do now and what I want to hold off on. I run into this problem in my business too. People pay you to tell them what's wrong, then when you do, they get mad about it and shoot the messenger. I wonder if that's some of what I see happening here. I've also referred Air Genie to others and they haven't complained to me about them. I don't want to see all these complaints drive them out of business. I've been here since 1983 and, until I found Air Genie, I'd had nothing but bad experiences with air conditioning companies. I'd be afraid to call anyone else.

How you ask? Good question! Joe, we pay it forward with the best tune-up you have ever seen, and then add a little extra to our parts pricing to pay for everything you mentioned above. Mystery Solved!

Take some sales classes and learn how to treat people so they want to do business with you...and also take some advertising classes on honest and productive marketing.
Pay hundreds to go forward or pay thousands to go forward? And was that to pay for repairs or to pay a third party for a good deed?I'm confused without seeing the ad.Sounds like a bunch of fast talk.

Hello everyone I had the same problem with AIR HEAD GENIE they came out to my house for an annual ac cleaning on my two ac units. The were here from 9-4:30 to clean 2 units that were 6 years old. They told us around 2 in the afternoon that our 4 ton trane system was a lemon and our 3 ton unit was out of 410a refrigerant and it needs a new compressor. My wife was home and I was at work and when I got home I had a nice bill for $2200. The added 410a refrigerant and 2 capacitors and other random charges. They also informed my wife that our 4 ton 6 year old supposively lemmon ac needed to be replaced and it was about to go anytime. I told them no and I was getting a second opinion. That night I woke up and my house was 82 degrees. The next morning on the way to work I passed a Home Tech van and called them out to look at my 2 systems. I took off from work and met the tech and he went through the 2 units and informed me that Air Head Genie wired my heat to come on with the ac and my 3 ton unit was perfect but they left a tool thats I guess is used to stick in the ground and dump the refrigerant out. AND they charged me $850 worth of 410a refrigerant when the systems both take R22. Needless to say I never got a call back from Air Head Genie but Home Tech fixed everything for us and the tech was very friendly very professional and he insured me eveything will be taken care of. I also sighned up for a service agreement on my 2 ac units and all my appliances and I got $200 off by doing so. My stress level has dropped 100% and all my appliances are covered so if anything else breaks or fails, they will come out and fix it or install new parts at no cost to me just by signing up. Hope this helps anyone who is considering Air Head Genie. This post is labeled Top Tech for the Home Tech technician that got us back to a worry free life style.

Last March I purchased a new unit from Air Genie. They came out to the house did an inspection. After this they tell me a new unit would cost roughly $9000. They took several days to install due some installation issues. After it was installed they told me that my ducts were too small for the unit and it is creating stress on the system. They asked for another $10,000 to do the ducts. This to me is a classic bait and switch. I decided to repair the main trunk line and not replace the drops at that time. Several weeks later, my AC unit quits working and the handler was making a very high pitched noise. Out comes Air Genie again to repair a leak. At this point I am very frustrated with what I paid and the work. After this was resolved we had another minor issue that needed to be dealt with.. Now I am completely dissatisfied with the actions of this company I file a BBB complaint. BBB set us up to try to mitigate the issue. I decided at this point to go over my documents and see was is in the fine print and low and behold Air Genie has a "money back guarantee". I called Air Genie and asked them to remove the system and honor the money back guarantee. They refused, saying well that's not how that works. It seemed pretty clear to me. Fast forward one year later. I call Air Genie because my unit stopped working again. I also state that there was a live 220 wire that was put in a breaker box in the attic and the breaker does not work. The box said "disconnect not in use, wire from outside is live" (I have a picture to prove it). So they come out and spend nearly 2 hours to make repairs to the live wire and replace my capacitor that failed. They charged me 79 for the service call and said the part is normally $248 but the warranty price is $205. I pay it even though I know I have a 10-year warranty but I thought it was just a partial warranty. I call Bryant up and they tell me that all internal parts are covered 100% for 10 years. I call Air Genie again and they tell me the price includes labor. According to my receipt it says "outdoor battery cap" $205. Very, very shady company. Also, priced out the unit I purchased from Air Genie through another company. It would have been over $2000 cheaper and I would have had a dual speed unit.

Air Genie is in over 5000 homes per year. As much as we try, we haven't been able to please everyone. We completed the work we were contracted to do for $29.95 and comped her bill. What more can I say. This also seems to be the only website where people congregate to trash Air Genie. In the last four months Air Genie has received a total of 96, 5-Star Reviews on sites like Yahoo, Google, Judys Book, and Angies List. No offense to this website, but I had never heard of Topix until someone told me about this post. If you're considering using Air Genie, expect the technician to spend at least 75-90 minutes inspecting every nook and cranny whether he's doing an annual maintenance or a repair call. This is so we do'nt overlook anything that might be waiting to break down next week. Also, some people have mold in their air conditioners. At the end, you get a full report, along with pricing. You can say YES, if you trust the technician, and NO, if you don't.:-) It's just a list. Thank you for reading this reply!

Dear Upset Customer,(I wish people would put their names here) I'm sorry we fell short of your expectations. Like all Guarantees, ours have limitations and criteria. Regarding your warranty part: you are correct that the parts on the equipment we install come with a 100 percent parts warranty. That means that if You want to diiagnose your own problem, remove your defective part, drive down to the local supply house with the part, your model number, and serial number, fill out all the paperwork and bribe the teller with a twenty dollar bill you may be able to get your part free. Honestly, we don't even return the capacitors under warranty when we give you the warranty pricing. Air Genie takes the $43 hit! It's not worth the time and money to employ someone to do the paperwork. That being said, if we had known about the prior 'minor' previous problems, we probably would have waived the fees all together. Please contact my office and I will write you a check for $284. Again I'm sorry and thank you for your business.

All the above stories from customers are just like mine. I should have known the $29.95 was a set up.
The correct marketing term is not a "set up" but rather a hook. And every business uses them! Do you not think your paying for that cruise that Billy Fuccillo gives you when you buy a Kia out in the Cape? It costs between $150-$170 to send a technician to your house for a $29.95 special. We do a kick butt tune-up (at a loss) to pay it forward in order to earn the right to your future business. We explain all of this on our radio show.(Some people don't catch the whole show)

There are four reasons I advertise the $29.95 "El Cheapo" special:
#1 People love getting it so cheap!
#2 If I charge $189 on the radio the phones don't ring.(Trust me, I tried!)
#3 and my favorite: when we do a $29.95 special our customers typically give us an average of three referrals. That's Awesome!
#4 98% of our customers buy something!

In the last three years we have served over 15,000 customers with under 33 complaints. as a hiring consumer, I'll take those odds when hiring a service company any day!

Thank you for reading my reply!
