Ghosts still haunt Port Chicago survivor Hyde

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

It was just another day loading ammo onto a ship for Rutherford Hyde -- until, of course, a sudden explosion knocked him down through two decks.

Davis is a perfect example of how what's wrong with Vallejo and America; take no responsibility for your criminal actions and blame the "system" for your cowardice and failure. These men ran in the face op danger and abandoned their honor and DUTY to the country which gave them birth. They were and are convicted traitors and mutineers and no "memorial" should be bestowed upon them until every American soldier and sailer who gave their lives for America is justifiably given a place on the Honor Role of true men of Liberty. Just another media event designed to blur the lines between responsibility and blame. This news-writer should be ashamed.

No Wanglow - YOU are what's wrong with America. It's your ilk that continues to create problems in our country based on what you think you are entitlted to. You are losing the little power you have held on so dearly to and America is a very scary place for you right about now. You are no more than ignorant, selfish trash. It's still far too many of you - but time will take care of that - that's real. These sailors did not run. They STOOD up and refused to work under horrible circumstances. They were MEN! But then again, you wouldn't understand that concept.

Wow! You got nerves, son. This is an opinion you should have kept to yourself. Like Archie Bunker would say, "you're a ding-bat." And the writer above me is correct, time will get the best of you. "Just keep saying good morning."

Cliff,

Not that I agree with Wanglow's ultra right leaning on this, but in some aspects, refusing a direct order in wartime should still have serious consequences. Your actions in refusing the order could directly lead to the death of fellow soldiers.

However, handling the cargo in question should have had specific instructions. Something the Army has required in Ammo handling to this day.

The men who handled the cargo and did not mutniy should be honored for their efforts and sacrifices. Those that did in fact mutiny, must retain the status of guilty until the Navy has changed its position and pardoned the offenders.

We also have to remember to employ 1944 morals and actions when viewing this event. The safety practices we employ in cargo handling in 2009 are built from experiences we have gained in the 65 years since.

Sorry, I meant that the men remained guilty until President Clinton pardoned them.

So Shay58, When the men who were landing on the Normandy Beaches, knowing that as soon as the gates on their landing craft opened and that they would be greeted with a wall of machine gun fire from the Germans entrenched in their concrete bunkers above, stood up and refused to get out knowing that death was certain that they would be the heros?.
You need to understand what a true hero is. In the face of certain death the hero proceed with their duty to defend their country and to regain the freedom of those who were conquered by evil.

I wish to voice my support for what Wanglow posted here. WELL said. There is NO "ultra-right" in this case. It is instead actually a cold, hard truth which those who continue to whine on the government dole seek to criminalize as hateful, or racist, or yet, Ultra-right. Donkey talking points as usual. Look past YOUR hate colored liberal glasses and try to comprehend that YOU may very well be on the wrong side of history.

This is laughable. Before you dummies start posting go and read up on some history. American history. Stop posting out of ignorance and hate. Be a real patriot and do some real research.

Shay58's hero is the mailman who drives through her dangerous neiborhood and delivers her unemployment check.

Shay, I read the entire history of the incident. 2/3rds of those killed were African Americans. Guess what that made the rest?

Heroes come in all shades and sizes. They aren't always the one who stand up and say no. Sometimes they are the ones who know what the danger is and still maintain calm in the face of grave circumstances.

And in my book, those are the ones we should honor first and foremost.

Of course you are free in this country to have your own opinion. That is what a lot of heroes died to protect for you.

Thank you Sir; I know there are many (if not most) who believe in the traditional American values of family and country. We can't see most of their comments because they are AT WORK and don't have time to post or they have been banned by the liberal TH apologists (I have to use a lap-top to find wireless locations since the "liberal" goons down at the local rag have cut off my work location). The truth hurts nobody and anyone who really wants to know it in this case can find numerous references on the internet. This pandering article is an insult to ALL men who have served their country honorably and another example of how the left would rewrite History to appease the stupid and lazy. These detractors can't hide their shame nor their white-envy; it shows in every post, yet are THEY banned? They can threaten, belittle, profane our ancestors and OUR country, yet they are still allowed the soap-box, while anyone defending the more conservative path is called a "hater" or "racist" and are eliminated. AMERICANS are beginning to speak out and surely the tide is turning against the traitors in our midst and in the White House. 2010 will see many of these old-time liberals slapped back into the stone-age from where they crawled and where they belong. This UNDOCUMENTED President has caused more racial enmity and strife in 6 months than America has ever experienced, you see it every day, a growing divergence between whites and blacks; I am truely sorry for what this poor example of humanity has and is doing to ALL of us.

as usual the only thing that matters to some is that these people were black and because of that they will always be right and everyone else will be wrong, just like with obama, rodney king, micheal jackson, basketball players, football players, baseball players, congressman jefferson, and all the rest we read about everyday. certian of you are racists and that is all you will ever be.
