I attended the Andy Lopez Campaign headquarters opening. It was a good turnout and I met several officers from other department as well as other candidates for other offices. I was very impressed with the speech Mr. Lopez gave about the changes he wants to make when he takes over the Sheriff's Dept. He is old school and well educated in law enforcement. What impressed me the most is when he said the Sheriff's dept is a law enforment agency and will be conducted as a law enforcement agency in all departments. He said he will unite the department and make every officer including detention officers full time peace officers at no cost to the officers. And when an officer is transfered and promoted from detention he will never have to worry about going back to detention due to any type of complaint or lack of duty. All officers will be known as Deputies assigned to detention, deputies assigned to patrol, deputies assigned to criminal, deputies assigned to court security and so on. I work in detention. Ortiz lied to all of us four years ago and never kept a promise. Ricketts has no law enforcement credentials. I ask all my brothers in blue to consider Andy Lopez for sheriff before you vote. I believe him when he said Bexar County will finally have one of the best sheriff's dept in the state of Texas. Wish more of my fellow officers would have been there. He comes from within.
That remains to be seen.

So Andy Lopez is promising to make detention officers "peace officer?" Ha! How many times have we read about a detention officer being arrested for bring drugs and other illegal items to the jail, or other screw ups such as firing weapons at a moving auto? Just last week a detention officre was arrested for theft while claiming to be a peace officer on an investigation. Just a while ago, another detention officer, "Cody Dean Hood" was arrested for possesion of crack cocaine. Another reason not to vote for Andy!

Lopez, Ricketts, and Lovestock will be nothing more than a continuation of the good ol' boy system. If they win we will see the likes of "Chief Menchaca" and the return of former chiefs such as Fernandez. Diaz will no doubt privatize the jail, leaving hundreds of men and women out of a job and turning the Jail into another Wackenhut. If you still have questions about who Kevin Wolff is backing, just visit Diaz's website and you will hear Diaz personally thank Wolff for pushing him to run. Wolff has publicly attacked Collective Barganing, spewed anti-labor sentiments, and indicated that privatization is the answer. Another four years of Ortiz will mean that the department will continue to suffer and the tyrant chiefs currently in place will continue be allowed to treat employees in ways that are demonstrative of a sheriff that doesn't care about his deputies or the county he was elected to serve.

We have a Sheriff? BS aside, Andy shouldn't be making promised he can't keep. You can't wave a wand and make peace officers out of detention officers. They need to earn it by going to the academy like everyone else.

Like I said DeputyDog. Andy said he would make the Sheriff's Dept a full law enforcement agency. That means unity in the department. He said at no cost to the deputies. That means going through the academy.

Thanks for the clarification. If he can do that, more power to him! We need more officers in the street. Detention, what’s up with detention deputy's always being on the news for negative crap? Maybe you can talk some sense into them? We don't need this negative publicity, especially now that County Commissioner's Court wants to cut back the budget and entertain privatization of the jail.

Thanks DeputyDog. Thats exactly what Andy talked about. More officers on patrol, a DWI and roadrage taskforce city and county wide, an organized crime unit dealing strickly with drugs and gangs and in no way jail privatization. And promoting from within to the highest level for all deputies male and female no outside retired friend from another agency.

the last time Andy Lopez ran Two of his cousins were telling people how they were going to be made chiefs. Not to mention the likes of Henry Martinez, the crook of all crooks would return with Andy, NO THANKS. Henry use to love sending people back to the jail as punishment. Talk about the good old boy!!!

Pheonix. I don't know if Andy has any cousins or relatives working at the Sheriff's Office. But believe me. Andy is not the type to place a relative in a deputy chief's position. Relatives or no relatives. People talk. And like you said his cousins were telling people how they were going to be made chiefs. Not Andy. You want Ortiz who lied to all of us vote for him. You want Ricketts who has run for Sheriff several times as a republican and a democrat showing that he is not true to his party and has no law enforcement experience. Vote for him. I'm voting for Andy Lopez. A man who saved alot of officers from getting fired when he was assigned to Internal Affairs.

I am retired from the Sheriff's Department. I don't know Ortiz but have heard from the oldtimers that he made false promises just to get the deputies votes. I do know Ricketts who worked as the parking lot attendant at the jail. Never knew of him working anywhere other than the jail. So evedently no law enforcement experience. Heard he got fired by Sheriff Ralph Lopez for playing dominos with the inmates even after being warned not to do so. One remark I do want to make to Officer Detention. You are right. Andy Lopez did keep alot of officers from getting fired when he was assigned to Internal Affairs. I was complained on twice. Andy brought me in and gave me the gauretee law before interviewing me. Then informed me of the complaint. He then took the complaint from the persons that complained against me. He also informed the complainants that he needed a sworn statement from them. But also informed them that if they lied just to get the officer in trouble he would file perjury charges on them. They refused to give a statement. Walked away. Case closed. Kept my job. Twice Andy saved my ass.

Mr. Lopez. I don't know if you read these topix but my husband reads them because one of his friends is running for constable. My husband and I met you a year ago in Boerne at the New Years Eve dance. We were introduced by Billy Mata. I have only stolen one thing in my life and that was a candy bar when I was 9 years old. I need to admit to you that I took one of your small signs out of Martin L King dr but I promise I will place it back at my voting location. I had it sitting on my dresser but my jealous husband took it out and put it in the garage. I brought it to work with me and I need to tell you that you have 21 female employees voting for you that work in my office alone. We love your hat and the colors of your signs. George Strait is our country music star. But you are our version of Goerge Strait of law enforcement. Don't know if you understand German but from all of us, Ish bin gut. Ish libi disch you. Good luck.

Karen, I commend you for your honesty. However, I can not believe you and your group of co-workers will be voting for Larry because he sports a cowboy hat, you like colors on his signs, and he reminds you of a country singer. This is just ridiculous. When you vote for someone it should be because you agree/support their platform. If by some chance Mr. Ricketts takes office, his cowboy hat and campaign colors are going to solve the BCSO woes; fiscal responsibility, professionalism, and a committment eliminate the GOB [good 'ol boy] system will! Vote for who you want, that is afterall the beauty of America, but plesae research the candidates and make an informed decision when you cast your valuable vote.
It is my opinion that Susan Pamerleau is exactly what Bexar County needs. Ms. Pamerleau will bring a new approach to county politics to the table by offering a fresh and untainted perspective. She has a long history of proven committment to public service, fiscal responsibility, REAL business smarts, and is not beholden to anyone because she is not part of the GOB system. Ms. Pamerleau will surround herself with the right people to do the job (and hold them accountable) and not dole out Chief positions and other positions with nice salaries to her friends. She believes in a meritocracy and understands the dangers and pit falls of cronyism.
Please take the time to visit all the candidates' web sites so you can see what each of them is truly about. I am not trying to bash Mr. Ricketts, as I feel he truly does have his heart in the right place, but many of know that if he becomes Sheriff, the GOB system will still be alive and kicking in Bexar County.

Cowboyhats. I believe Karen was talking about Andy Lopez not Larry Ricketts. I'm retired from the Sheriff's office and there is no way your Susan Pamerleau can beat Andy Lopez in the General elections. Susan has no Law Enforcement experience and was part of closing up our bases like Kelly Field and Brooks field causing many San Antonion's to lose their jobs or take an early retirement. Susan ran against Tommy Adkisson and lost. She has a military retirement and a good paying job at USAA. She just wants a name for herself. She will lose to Lopez in the general elections and will run for another office in two years. Go back where you came from Susan. We have qualified people to run our offices born and raised right here in San Antonio.

Who would want to vote for a retired general with no law enforcement experience & runs USAA. She's also a Wolff puppet that will give detention over to Kevin Wolff & screw over the detention officers for privatization, she using her bullshit philosophy that it will save taxpayers dollars. She ran against Kevins daddy & lost. Vote for someone who has real law enforcement experience, Andy Lopez is the man for the job. He's not the puppet type like the others.

Boner Master. You are so right. I applaud you. Wolff puppet Susan. In 2 years I wouldn't be surprise if she chooses to run against Susan Reed. With no law degree.

I wonder how many people would laugh at me being so stupid if I enlisted in the service and before begining my basic training told them I want to be a General now. I don't want to pay my dues as others have in the military I want to be General. I don't know nothing about being a General but I want to be a General before anything else.

Karen. In reference to your post. I also like the hat of Andy Lopez. I also like his signs they are attractive. I also am voting for him. But I am not voting for him because of his hat and signs. Although I agree with you he is our George Strait version of law enforcement. I am voting for him because I have read his handout card. 40 years of law enforcement and a christian plus his experience in patrol, detective, sgt, and a taskforce investigator with the District Attorney's office. His education in criminal justice and law enforcement. And to the Susan supporter. I have read Susans website. All I see is her different educations in different universities and states. Not one word about law enforcement. She is not from here so don't talk bad about our TEXAS men. TEXANS are proud of their hats, wranglers, boots, and belts. Susan needs to go back to Kentuky or wherever she is from. Our vote go's to one of our own. Andy Lopez. Walking tall himself. So Susan if this is you or one of your supporters we have a slogan here in Texas. DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS.

We don't need outsiders in our elected offices. Least ways a general. We have plenty of qualified Texans.
