sorry to inform you but, "ain't" is actually in the dictionary now. when i was in grade school my 6th grade teacher{ms. ada bailey) taught us that "ain't" isn't a word. but now in 2010 it is, along with a lot of other words that wasn't back then. but he didn't spell "dumb" correctly.

My son dated a girl from the Western side of Ky and she was terrorfied to come to the Eastern side. She drove here one time and her Mom called her at least 25 times to make sure we hadn't harmed her.Their attitude about us made them look ignorant. They really believe we are stupid and dangerous to outsider's. She called her Mom after she got here and told her we live just like they do but her Mom wouldn't have it.I don't understand how people can judge others without knowing anything about them.We have friends visit every summer from Indiana and from Oklahoma and they all love it here even tho they have just heard negative things about Eastern Kentucky. I live here because I love it and I choose to live here.

Eky does have its scary bouts.

However, just makes us a lot tougher than others.

I would like to see someone out drive a couple of us from "around these parts" considering most areas are straight-aways.

Actually they do know us. They see how we are portrayed by the media, whether it's Diane Sawyer or just a local station. Just as we see the negativity in their cities they see the same in our small town, remember Wally Hardin & Robert Barnett? For those that have never traveled East, just as many have never traveled West. Some of us may assume that cities like Louisville and Lexington are full of ghettos, homeless people and crime, which is no more true than everyone here being redneck, uneducated and ignorant. But if we never travel outside our comfort zone, we may never experience all this state has to offer. I for one lived in Louisville and can honestly say I never was treated bad, or looked down upon because I was from Eastern Ky. Everyone loved the accent. Besides, people from Louisville don't actually think they live in KY they associate more with Indiana, their news programs are billed as Kentuckiana Ky-Indiana. I don't think that's because they are ashamed to be from Ky, but more because they've never felt like part of KY. Look at it like this, everyone remembers the Duke/Ky game, but most will still cheer for them to beat Louisville, if both advance in the tourney. Sad but true.

I have traveled all over America and have never had anyone ask me about a bad news report when I tell them where I live. I have lived in Salyersville for 20 years coming from cental Indiana. When I was just a kid my aunt and uncle would bring me with them when they visited
" down home " and I loved it here. When I say I choose to live here I mean it because it's not my original home. My family still live in Indy and they visit here often. As for Diane Sawyer, well that is a mess that should never have happened. They came to make us look bad and accomplished their mission. As for going to Lexington, I go there often, too, and I drive all over town because I know the best places to shop and I talk to people in the stores and they are just like we are. I have never been afraid to go anywhere in Lexington but at the same time I don't go out at night here at home except for church and I wouldn't go just anywhere at night in Lexington. That's clled common sence. The news jump on anything out of the ordinary in small town America because most bad things don't happen in small towns. Stories like Wally and Bob don't even get a news report in the " City" because it happens every day but when it happens here it's STOP THE PRESSES, MAGOFFIN'S AT IT AGAIN!!!!! I have traveled from Canada to Mexico and I like Magoffin best even with all our flaws.
