Is it worthwhile or just a waste? What is your opinion on the local newspaper??
The internet is the place to get all the news you want…

I think the best part of the Independent is the front page and the community page. It will give you all the best news on the front and it lets you keep up with people in the community section.
The rest is boring and they never have classified ads or at least only have a few of 'em.
Does that Sammy Preston still have his own little column? He can't be "all there"..

LOL....I bought a paper yesterday when I was there, and there was not much to it. It does have enough to where I can keep up with some news there. At least it is still 50 cents, and most the other papers have went up, some to even a dollar.

EXACTLY! Sometimes you find great deals, it's like searching for buried treasure! Men, they have no appreciation for shopping of any kind. My husband is a "walk-in / walk-out" kind of guy, if only knew how much money I have saved him by really shopping around he'd be shocked and grateful.

My husband does the same thing...he knows what he is going for, goes in, gets it, pays, and heads back out. Me, I try to be thrifty. Heck, these days ya gotta be. I was watching a show while cleaning house on HGTV, and this lady had decorated and bought furniture for her ENTIRE house for under two thousand by going to thrift shops....and it was very pretty. I told hubby when I start my spring cleaning, and re-arranging furniture and buying more, that I am hitting the thrift stores wide open!!!!!

That's how I redo my rooms. I just repainted my bathroom and bought items here and there and not to brag, it looks GREAT. The paint was a miscolor at Lowes for 10 bucks (it was a $35 dollar gallon of expensive paint) and with the other things I purchased to hang up and new shower curtain, hand towels, etc. I spent under $150. I think it's fun to try to find ways to mimic expensive interior designs with inexpensive items; much more challenging and better on the wallet.

How did he get out of that shooting thing I heard of a few years ago? Didn't he hide on the hill and shoot at the man when he came out in the morning to go to work? I never could figure how he got out of that!

And to boot, if I'm not mistaken it was some lawyer, I'm thinking Walt Turner, but I'm not sure.

I like reading the parts that people send in from around the area or out of state. Dennis Prater's has a good section. I wish people would get stories from the old folks and send them in. I would love to hear some stuff from Mr. G.V Joseph's life or Mr. John T. Arnett and any of are older men and women. I wish they would bring back the part where they go out and ask people questions in the county.

I forgot about that part of the paper, when they ask for the public opinion. That was one of my favorite parts. They definitely should bring it back :)

Well, the only reason I like it is whenver I come visit I can catch up on some local news, but other than that its pretty terrible. The writes don't really draw my attention at all... but I guess theres nothing really to talk about in Magoffin.
