Attended a school board meeting today and was really concerned about the board members who are running our school system. Mr. Hunley our superintendent did not know what the word expedite meant. Just wondering if these people running our schools is a concern for anyone else.

Small town politics plays a part in a lot of areas, but Joe Hunley needs to make decisions based on what is best for the students not what is best for his political pull. Magoffin County High school ranks 210 of 224 Kentucky public high schools. I would say that I am definitely concerned with the direction our school are going.

Everyone needs to realize that Frankfort was involved in the decision to suspend the teacher and principle. Mr. Hunley had no other choice. I don't agree with all that the Board does, but they did what they were directed to do regarding the suspension of the two employee's.

The school board would not have taken any action regarding the scissor fiasco if the State hadn't forced them to take action. The Board of Education is like everything and everybody else around here - ignore it, don't rock the boat, it will die down and go away eventually. If Mr. Mullins hadn't kept pushing this issue in conjunction with some worried parents - the offenders would be in school, in their comfortable positions, drawing their pay.

Thank you Frankfort. Now how about coming in and taking over the School Systems like you have had to do so many times in the past in school systems. Clean up the mess that is now Magoffin County Schools.

I say bring Willie and Janice back, and get rid of that smart ellick on the school board Carolyn Issac. I will get everyone I know to vote against here to be re-elected for school board. I say put someone else in her chairmen place.

I too was at that board meeting and came away with a totaling different perspective than what you did. I thought Mr. Hunley did show that he had a thorough understanding of the word "expediate." I totally disagree with Mr. Hunley's decision to suspend Mr. Cole and Ms. Helton; however, I do believe he is the type of superintendent we need to lead our school system forward. We also have some very good young principals and teachers which include Mr. Cole and Ms. Helton. The school system in Magoffin County has always been who has the most money to put in the envelopes and who has the most political pull. When are most Magoffin Countians going to stop playing these games and start really thinking about the best interests of the children of Magoffin County? I do believe in the five principals we have now, we have mostly people who care, but not yet 100%. Mr. Cole is in the percentage who really cares for our children. In our teachers, we still have teachers who are there to draw a paycheck and not for the good of all children. Ms. Helton treats all children the same and cares for them all. This is what I got from that meeting. Didn't we go to the same meeting?

It is people like you that make people so mad. Obviously you don't have any idea of what the word expedite means since you can't spell it. Let me tell you something else the children at sgs are in great hands, Scott Helton, Bernadette Carpenter, and Gary Richard Helton. You couldn't ask for any better hands than those for the students to be in. You reap what you sow!

I worked for the B.O.E. for almost nine years,
beginning with Mr. Sizemore, then with Mr. Cecil and finally Mr. Hunley being superintendent. My
job location was Magoffin County High School. I
was a classified worker for the system and enjoyed
my employment with the system..I missed as little
work as I could and my 'days worked log' usually
headed the list. I enjoyed working for the B.O.E
and with my co-workers. It was my sad day to have
to stop work due to a serious injury...the system
was good to me and I tried my best to be a good
employee to them...I really miss working for and
with these guys.

If you were there at the board meeting and you feel this way, why didnt you voice your opinion to the board instead of doing it on topix where the only good it does is a ranting? I was also at the meeting and did not hear anyone speak against the two accused. I just think if you feel this strongly about it, you should have spoken up where and when it counted and not on topix.

"I thought it was ashamed people there wanting them back in the school system." If you speak anything close to the way you write, then it is probably best that you didn't speak at the meeting. You should consider getting an education before saying someone else doesn't know straight up. Also, I feel sorry for your child regardless of were he or she is attending school.

I wander if the Supt made it to the football game to take a look at what he created? I felt sorry for Coach McCoy out there doing it by himself. Every other school district i have ever been to, the Supt goes to all the sporting events.
