How come all the post on this site get someone on them with a bad attitude running stuff for people. Even good post that people should have a normal conversation about someone comes on it and starts drama just to aggravate people. What drives people to start drama? You don't get any good from it just makes people see you as being lower than you was before.

Well these sites are mainly used for gossipe and the spread of discontent. The majority of people that use this site are troll that are out for nothing just wanting to see if they can get a raise out of people.

I wish there could be some threads were people would talk about something that could advance this town and not trashing one another.

Ok, then lets get started...what area needs the most work or help? The senior citizens have to work hard doing every fund raiser coming along just to keep the doors open so they have a place to meet and enjoy each others company. Why don't we get togather and do one huge fund raiser that will raise enough to last all year? Maybe an auction? I'd love to buy some homemade noodles made by any of these ladies. Or purchase handmade pillowcases they embroidered. And if the entire community got involved we could auction household items, used but useful and sell lunch so people can stay all day. Ok , this is a start and a real need in our community so what will we do?

Well I have tried to engage people in different businesses over the last couple of years to start making jobs for the younger people of the community but because of the elder generation and other factions with the county it has been impossible to make any leway what so every so until things change in the overall running of the town there can be no true change. There is a reason for us not having any expansion of commerce with in the city limits.

I don't live in salyersville , but my family does and I was raised there every summer. It saddens me to see that the drinking water is too filthy to drink and that hypodermic needles were found in the park last year. There needs to be more community involvement. Where I come from we have what we call " operation clean up" twice a year we get the kids, youth and adults together and clean up the trash around town. I was amazed how much we gathered! You are so right about all the stupid gossip and waste of time that goes on here at topix. I considered moving my family there, but decided it wouldn't be a better place than where I am. I still visit twice a year and I know the next time I am going to find one area and clean it up. It's the most beautiful place that I have ever been and I love the people I know. I can't believe the drug problem either. And I applaude Peggy Rowe for posting hotline numbers to get rid of the drug addicts. Work together and you will succeed and be determined to make change. God bless you all

And where I live we recycle almost everything. That is another suggestion I would give to you guys. I have one bag of trash per week and 4 barrels full of recyclables. It's much easier and cleaner to recycle. I do understand that in Kentucky they do not make it easy to recycle so ask for federal money and build a plant.

Well we do have independent recycling of most things and we have metal yards. But That really has no real sway on our economic situation. The green movement is a great idea but in our area green is no a viable thing for at least 10 years+ because of the inground ideaology of the use of fossile fuel along with the number of people that refues to educate them selves.

Education is key and community involvement. If everyone helped clean the kicking river would that help the drinking water.? Or is it do far gone ?

Well any thing that could be regulated by the local goverment is out of the question. The local water department is so far in the red they are facing the possiblity that they could be taken over by a private company. So even if the community could clean the river the governmental involment would not be there. We need outside sources or a complete change in how the local government is ran and regulated. Our board of education is also broke because of money miss management, the business as usual concept is going to continue to restrict the advancement of any progress.

Get the community involved! So much talk goes on there during elections and buying votes. Re direct their concerns to what is important ... Their city. Organize protests to get the dope heads out and do this monthly. Form committees. One committee for the protests and another to clean the river. The more people seeing what is going on the more apt they are to get involved. "operation clean up". Started with a group of 10.( two families). Now we have hundreds involved. It's fun too. I can't believe a private water company would touch your water system. It seems as though they would put themselves at risk. Inevitably the drinking water is going to cause health problems which In turn will drive health care cost to rise. My other hope is to educate the people of the county of how to dispose of their old appliances or dead animals. Then once this is done broadcast it on the news and radio them apply for federal money. You will need help from the federal government to clean the river. Lots of waste that needs to be hauled out of there. I will continue to hope and pray that this beautiful piece of the country gets the help it do deserves. The people are kind and I know they are willing to get involved.

I know I have been scouring topix since the tornado hit. I am going to hold a benefit up here and see if I can collect money for the people that lost their livelihoods. So sad. I hope this puts things into a new perspective on topic and that people stop the gossip and ban together to help clean the disaster. If I could be there I would in a second but unfortunately I work full time.
