Can anyone help me answer this question? Does anyone know approximately how long that the Holy Family, meaning Joseph, Mary and The Baby Jesus resided in Egypt? Can anyone tell me why they were there? I thought Jesus was born in Bethelehem.

The Christmas season is upon us and yes the infant Holy Child Jesus was taken by his parents into Egypt for safety reasons. You see King Herod was concerned that the wise men had come searching for a new king and fearing that he would lose his authority to rule, he ordered the deaths of all boy babies in Bethlehem under two years of age. In other words, he ordered all of the male babies to be killed so he would get the right one, meaning Jesus believed by many to be the Messiah and Savior of Man. I believe he Jesus remained in Egypt throughout the lifetime of King Herod, when this evil kind died, the Angel of The Lord told Joseph to return, but Joseth fearing the son of the evil king, took the Holy Child and his mother to Nazareth.

One thing is for certain, the Nativity story involving the birth of Jesus is a dramatic one and full of intriguing information, when approached from a historical perspective.

William,
Didn't Jesus, Joseph and Mary return to Nazareth when Jesus was around nine years old? I can remember this story from Sunday School. I really should read the bible more often. I am in college too and it is real easy to get lost and forget what is really important when we live in the academic world.

The King didn't get concerned until 2 years after the wise men had first came by the palace in search of the baby. When they didn't come back to tell the King where they found him, after a couple years, he started thinking there was a plot going on to take over his kingdom but he wasn't spiritual minded or he would have known that Jesus didn't come after an earthly throne. His goal on earth was to provide forgiveness for mankind and that one day we would go with him to his heavenly kingdom. It is really sad that so many have said and continue to say " no thanks" to the plan that Jesus provided. But the good news is it's still not to late if you hurry and ask.

The child Jesus was around twelve years old, when he was separated from his parents, and frantic with worry, they discovered him in the Temple conversing with the greatest minds in Jerusaleum. When they asked him why he had disappeared and caused them so much worry, he replied, "Did you not know that I was about my Father's Business?" Even then, he knew the road God his Father had set before him.

The Christ Child returned from Egypt when he was approximately eleven years old. His parents following the message of Angels knew when the time was right to bring the child home where he could begin his mission. His mission was to save the souls of we undeserving human beings from the original sin of Adam and Eve and the personal sins we through fear, ignorance or plain out mean spirited rebellion chose to commit. Thank God he send his son to save our undeserving lot.

As Moses was a shadow of the Messiah and was also, as a child, hidden from Pharaoh in Egypt for 3 months, Jesus was probably hidden in Egypt for 3 months. Herod did not live long after the Slaughter of the Infants and then Joseph was told they could return.

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Yes, he said the following....This is true.

I totally agree! What were your sources for the "2 years" information?

Have you ever noticed how many really good people, though some are imperfect like the majority of mankind, are murdered for attempting to bring about justice for those who have little or no voice in their government? People like President John F. Kennedy, Senator Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, to name but a few. Now these men are of the earthly realm. Jesus, the Son of God, the Sermon On The Mount; "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

People like King Harrod and evil people today still fear those who would give voice to the people. That is why they are murdered."

Joseph, Mary and their son, Jesus, fled to Egypt and stayed there until Herod died. So Jesus could have been raised from birth in some Egyptian culture until he was about 12 years old. How was he educated? As a Jew or as an Egyptian?
