Recently I was in Sav A Lot and noticed a guy, maybe early 20's, in the checkout line. He wasn't pushing a shopping cart, it was more like a low boy or a flat bed! Unsure of the correct term for the cart but I think it's for loading large boxes. Anyway, it was LOADED DOWN with 24 packs!! I'll guess there were at least 20 or more and paid with Foodstamps! I was appalled needless to say. This reminded me of another time when I worked as a cashier in a grocery store. A young girl came thru my line with her 3 young children. They were not dirty, just unkempt. Behind her was a checkout boy pulling a cart like the above described cart and it too was stacked high with 24 packs of assorted pop. Not one single food item was purchased, not even a flipping pack of gum for those babies!! I wanted to slap her facebut what could I do? I receive assistance but my husband goes to work everyday. It's just not enough sometimes. And it's sad when unhealthy food is cheaper than the healthier more nutritious food. We buy a very small amount of pop. Just enough to put in my husbands lunch box. Our drink if choice is diet Lipton Green Tea but it's $6.49 for a 12 pack. A 12 pack of Dew is $3 or $4!! I would love to prepare the salad someone described above but that would be outrageous to buy. I even use coupons lol but getting back to the point of this thread, the limitations shouldn't be the store's responsibility. They're out to make $$$. The limits should be on the card. And when people try to buy 20 cases of pop, their card should be flagged and some kind of repercussions such as the risk of losing benefits. Assistance is great when it's not being abused.
I thought stores put a limit on how many you could buy. I saw someone at save a lot doing the exact same thing you described. May have been the same person we saw. There were several in line that day that couldn't believe the cashier let him purchase that much pop. I made me wonder about the children he has at home. If he was spending that much on pop were they doing without, too?
On another note, I wish some of these judgmental people could see what it's like to live an entire month on such a tight budget. They would see it doesn't go far either. If you don't budget them wisely you may not have enough to eat the entire month. The healthier you try to buy the less you leave the store with.

Some buy pop to sell then sell the stuff for cash to buy their next high. So, these kids are still not getting the food they need. It's not right for sick working people to pay for lazy bums. Now those who are laid off, yes they deserve help until they get to go back to work. Those who truly are disabled, yes they should get help. If you get hurt while your high you should have to work to earn your way. If you weren't doing something stupid like getting high, you probably wouldn't of got hurt in the first place.
I'm sick of the those who sponge off the system carrying their cell phones around while most working people can't afford to have one. Also sick of all the pitiful kids who are left with whoever will take care of them so their parents can get high. Those kids didn't ask to be brought in the world. Since their parents brought them in then they should have to take care of them instead of some old sick grandmaw, aunt, sister, etc.

Thank God, it's not up to you!! Parents who will not work, have little children, who like junk food, just like your's and mine!! Oh by the way, I do not get Food stamps or Welfare, but I don't mind one Bit, for money to be deducted from my check, to help support these programs!! Children can not help it, that their parents don't work, or can not find a job!!! I don't want children to go hungry!!!
You must be a republican! They want to starve the poor, and make the Rich, even Richer!!

I grew up on a fixed income. I know all about waiting for the first of the month to come. I knew I didn't want to live that way forever. I went to college and now have a job. "Thank you God for blessing me." However, I don't mind giving some of my dollars to help those who need it. But it's not right the greedy lie and take from the needy. The needy would get more stamps and would have enough for them to eat all month if you didn't have those who won't work, get the stamps, then cash out for pills. It's those people who are taking from the mouths of babes. I realize addiction is a hard habit to break but.........most don't want to get off. They want to keep feeling high. I've talked to several people and they say they don't want to quit. Most that say they do want to quit don't want to sacrifice anything to start on the road to recovery. The devil has them so blinded. I know I wouldn't want to be high when the Lord splits through the sky and the angels declare and end to time. I pray for those with addition every night as well as their children. This Nation needs to take some action and put a stop to this. It's spreading like an epidemic. Oh but wait, there is big money in drugs. I guess some of the big wigs wouldn't get their cut of the green back. So our nation sits back and lets them all overdose. The government is not just making their cut but also saving money on all those who overdose. They no longer have to give them food stamps, or other government fund. I bet our government hopes all the poor people get high and die. No wonder doctors can write prescription after prescription. This is what the government wants. Can't believe they don't set up a dispenser somewhere. The sad thing is for some reason those who really have an illness can't seem to get their meds. Of course almost every drug addict says they are sick and need their opium. The withdrawal makes them feel pain and they think, "I just have to have this. Its Satan's way of deceiving you. Wake up America!

I work at a coal mine and make $23.00 an hour. My wife is a stay at home mom and we get food stamps. We turned in we was separated and she stays with her parents and they gave it to her. I don't have to pay child support cause she said she didn't want it and I help her with money. Oh by the way they also get medical cards. I buy other folks food stamp cards to. 50 cents on the dollar bub. Can't beat that. I bet this makes a lot of ppl mad but I'm not the only one doing it.
