Tony Skaggs would make a great superintendent. He truly cares about the students. In my opinion Joe Hunley retiring is the best thing to happen to Magoffin County Schools in a long time.

I heard he turned in his resignation as of June 30th,he has one more year of his term. I heard Jill Howard wanted the position. Maybe if she does, she will get rid of some of the leaches sucking around there. Get rid of about 3 men down there and they can hire 4 or 5 young teachers.
good idea

I have never worked for a finer person than
Tony Skaggs. I worked at the high school when
Mr. Skaggs was assistant principal under Mr.
Helton and then after he became principal him-
self. I found him to be very professional and
compassionate at the same time, something that a
lot of people never managed to master. If I had
a vote in the matter, I would cast it for Mr. Tony
Skaggs, for like I said, I have never worked with
or for a better person than he is.

I have my right to my opinion, so do you. I have shared mine,
now let's hear yours. Like I said, I have worked along side
Mr. Skaggs for nearly ten years, I'd say that would qualify
my forming an opinion of the man, wouldn't you?

Joe Hunley has set the Magoffin County School System back 25 years. The enrollment in Magoffin County Schools has plummeted because of lack of quality education and no focus on extra curricular activities. For those of you who understand enrollment and budgets, the state provides funding to the school district based on the number of kids they have. When students leave the system funds are cut. That is why they had to cut so many teachers last year and will have to again this year. The board of education should be ashamed for giving Hunley an extension. Most will agree that decision cost John Montgomery the County Judges seat. Would love to know how many kids have left the school district since Hunley has been supt.

I say go outside of the county and bring someone in that is qualified.

...don't forget the coin also has an edge. That makes
it three dimensional. Still the great part about this
one, we have a right to our opinion and most of us base
our opinion on things we have had experience with. If
it is my opinion that I believe Mr. Skaggs would make
a fine superintendent for the school system, then
is my right to express that opinion...when someone else
has a different opinion, they have every right to put
theirs forth as well. However, I doubt that what we
as ones outside the school system say about it either
way will make much difference in the outcome anyway,
do you?(School board members are elected by the populace,
superintendents are elected from within the school system).

I'd love to see Bernadette Carpenter as the next superintendent. She ran Millard Hensely, as well as North Magoffin, excellently.

i think that a new super should not come from the pool of teachers here ,but from the state frankfort should stand up for our children instead of closing thier eyes to recklass bus drivers and abusive teachers.parents do have a voice in that desision let yr voice's be heard.as far as hunely is concerned i think he done the best of a bad situation.

I taught at MCHS one semester and was so impressed with the way the school was run. Why go outside the system when you have someone like Tony Skaggs who is not only highly qualified but is also loyal to Magoffin County and its children?
curious person

Hmmm...let's see. She's a speech pathologist, not a classroom teacher, has no classroom, administrative or supervision experience.....has strong political connections.....sounds perfect to me.

They cut teachers last year alright....but did you see a single person from the Board of Education lose thier job? Funny, isn't it! There's a number of people at the board who do work hard...and several more "cronnies" that are getting near 6 figure salaries who spend their days coming in around 9-9:30, reading the paper and having coffee, sit around and talk awhile, then out to lunch, drive around an hour or so, then go home....it's those people who never impact a single student, yet their jobs are secure and they'll be there until it's time to retire and draw that big fat retirement check....only in Magoffin County can the least-abled so easily rise to the top!
