Andy Griffith

I have met Hal Smith (Otis) and Anita Coursaunt (Helen) and Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou). They all told me what a wonderful person Andy Griffith was and that I should try to meet him when I come to Manteo. I really don't like to bother folks like that, but it would really be a dream come true if I could just say hello to him sometime and see how he's doing. I spent about an hour with Hal SMith in Memphis and he told me so many good stories about his life and about the Andy Griffith Show. Since I'm originally from NC, I would so much like to be able to just say hello. Nothing more. I realize he needs his privacy...and needs it, I'm sure...but just a hello would be nice. So I'm saying hello here in case he doesn't want to get out in public. Keeping your life private much be a chore. I do understrynd that. Thanks for all you given in your lifetime. Your stories, songs, etc...have been a blessing. I'm going to see the Lost Colony because that's where you got your start.:) Have a happy life. May God bless you

Yeah, I wouldn't try to approach him, Interested, unless you see him in a store or somewhere very public, and I'd only say something very brief and be done with it.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen him out and about for a long while, at least not since Seamark (local grocery store) closed.

I have also had encounters with him. When I was younger, he showed up at a band outing and took the time to come talk to us later. I have seen him out and he has smiled and said hello. I am sure he wants his privacy when home. What it all boils down to he is a person. Some of you saw a bad day, I have always seen his good day. Thanks!!!

Andy is a talented actor and nice person. Manteo is his home and I think if any of us were in his shoes, we would want to maintain a certain level of privacy in our hometown. To just live life as an ordinary person rather than in a fish bowl. I would imagine it would be difficult to find the right balance especially in an area with so many tourists. Let's be happy he calls Manteo home.

Actually, I'm NOT a nutcase. I am; however, a person who actually wanted to say something nice on a forum. I'm not an "out of town TV-obsessed wackjob" either. I don't tresspass. I have family in Manteo. I was visiting. I also know I will never meet the guy...I was just "talking" online, which I have discovered is a HUGE mistake!!! I'm sorry you were so obviously offended by my post. I would NEVER harrass anyone...I just happen to think the guy is a talented actor and since I did happen to meet the other folks (in my territory) I made a comment thinking it was a nice thing to say. I'm sorry I upset you so much!!! My gosh! Who's the nutcase??

Yeah, I've heard he's not much on being approached. I wouldn't really do that. I was just talking. I can't say I blame him much. Thanks for being honest and "nice." For the most part, I've met some really nice people while in Manteo. As for the original post... I was just up late and thinking about the time I had met the others at a film festival in Memphis. They were the ones that told me so much about Andy Griffith and I said if I ever had the chance, I should say hello to him. I never really expected to do that. I'm not much on celebrity hunting at all. I didn't actually "look" for them when I met them...they just happened to be in the same room that I was in...and were very kind to talk. Hope you have a great day...I did enjoy the visit. LOVE that little island. It has changed so very much from many years ago. It has GROWN!!! Lots of folks moving in there.

Where was the amusing part?? It sounded like you were totally trashing me. I didn't mean to cause all this negativity. I understand some of you folks don't like him much...and maybe with good reason. However, I was in town to visit and enjoy myself. I never expected to really see the guy. I had already been told most of what was said on here. I was just relaying a message from some of his friends (a couple have already moved on from this life) and I did it in a poor way. I'm sorry...no hard feelings.
