On Monday, March 29, Middlesex County Sheriff Guy Abbott discredited rumors that have widely circulated in the county since the Virginia State Police executed a search warrant at the Middlesex Sheriff's Office in Saluda on March 15.

I believe I smell a cover-up in the makings. The FBI should be investigating this. The State Police that are doing the investigation are just as corrupt as the rest of them!!

I think if the VSP had anything arrests would have already been made. The last time a Sheriff in Va was under investigation they went with search & arrest warrants all at once. If the VSP didn't get every little piece of evidence out of the Sheriffs office on the 15th,I'd bet its gone now.

the only thing i know about this is what i read. i don't know ne employee on a personal level. i do however believe that it is true. mr. abbott should pay for misusing funds even though he may have repaid the funds. just because he wears a uniform of law doesn't make him exempt from being a citizen like like the rest of us. u break the law u get punished by the law. it should have been taken care of at the time it happened. i did not vote for him but even if i did i'd say the same thing. i didn't vote at all. i bet u next time i will.

Many of the county employees in saluda knew or should have know that extorting money from inmates in the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center is illegal.

But have any of them sought law enforcement of the matter? Probably not. See Code of Virginia 30-138, that mandates reporting corruption for constitutional officer of middlesex.

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? The investigation might have been started by accusations of a disgruntled but upstanding individual thus the reason for sealing the affidavit and search warrant inventory and return. A pack of liars ruined a law enforcement captain's life in the late 90's in a neighboring jurisdiction, whereas a search warrant was executed on his office by VSP and they found nothing wrong. However, everyone had jumped to conclusions and even after the news was released to that effect, people still didn't want to believe it. Wait until the investigation is over before forming an opinion. That's just my thought.

I'm not sure if you are from here, but I understand what you are saying, but I also not sure you completely understand. This has happened before with Abbott and it has already been proven. The dailypress put the story in their newspaper today. It gets a little more detail than the other media outlets have.

the first time there were questions about this, nothing was proved and the state police were not involved. I live here, I do not have to rely on the media for 2nd hand stories. There have been problems with the sheriffs budget, but also with the schools buget, the jails budget, the counties budget and so on. If you point fingers at one, you need to point fingers at all. didn't he just have to lay off a couple people due to the budget and other reasons. I bet they are not to happy with him.

Why do you think there wasn't anything proved? Ask your board of supervisor about that. Why did they pull his county credit card from him? If you want some proof, go to this link: http://middlesexcounty.blogspot.com/ Go to the bottom of that page, you will see the transcripts of the meeting when that took place. You will also see some of the attachments of credit card statements. Just because the VSP didn't investigate it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. The board doesn't take away credit cards for no reason, nor does the VSP issue warrants for no reason. I don't know what will come out of all this, but I sure believe that he should be treated just like everyone else that gets investigated. Most people are suspended until investigations are over.

Wait a little longer, there other county employees under fire.
The countyadministrator's office has been running an illegal business foryears that has been reported now that links to lots of money taken in the jail.

And further, the commonwealth's attorney, mike hurd , won't prosecute.

Not really. They made a closed, backdoor deal, more than likely. All the speeding tickets, the VSP would probably get a bigger chunk as hush money. my 0.0000000001 cent worth
