I have lived in Saltville all my life, and have been in lots of towns and states. I have enjoyed lots of different things in my life and a few things in Saltville. I am so disgusted with the town council. They act like they do so much for us but they have cost us our reputations. They have wasted millions of dollars through the years. It is not a town of the people by the people. It is a council of what the town gives you and the people have to like it.
The town had so much to offer and now it has hardly anything to offer. From wasting lots of dollars we have decrepitated roads, bad water and sewer system, no place to urinate. houses are falling and they feel that they are not responsible at all. They think that it is the peoples fault they are passing the buck.
You have to go out of town most of the time to buy anything like hardware, groceries, building supplies, amusement, something to eat, and entertainment.
At the top of the Saltville progress there is a quote that goes something like this, " Where there is no vision people perish". There is no vision in Saltville and the town is perishing day by day. Just do not get to harsh on me for a lot of people think like this.

When Olin left, it left several million dollars for the town. Can't remember how much, hence old grouch screen name. It has been squandered away with little if nothing to show for it. People are tired of present administration, but no one wants to inherit the mess that has been made by years of mismanagement. I don't have the answers other than we need people with integrity and courage to step up.

How are honest people going to step up with the truth when we have edited council minutes and the one-sided newspapers? That Smyth County rag wants to make me throw up with it's stories on the goodness of the council. Don't even mention that little paper in downtown Saltville. Ain't worth starting a fire with.

That's why I left that town. Unless it changes for the better I wouldn't move back.

Their ain't gonna be much change in Saltville. To many people like puttin' up with the greed and corruption I guess. The town ought to loose it's charter and go back to a community in Smyth county. I'm not sayin' the county would do a better job appropriating funds but it would keep the money out of the town council's and their buddies pockets. I guess somebody out of town would be robbin' us then.

Incorrect contracts with
Chadwick Sand Plant
Cobia - money spent on water lines
SRS - DOWNFALL OF THE SQUAD AND THE SHOW GROUNDS
1/2 MILLION FOR THE gcs building that is now a town shop.
Wave pool that is in in the hole. Let the same management run it again this year.
Mr. Taylor scheduled a budget work shop on Saturday, ut the council never stays in the budget.
Always spending money that is not in the budget. What a joke.
Maybe Titian is the only good thing we have. Frank Lewis just about give away all our rights at the Salt Plant.
What's up with they that they keep selling out.
count how many trucks come off tht hill each day.
We are suppose to get 50C per ton. Where is that money line on the budget?
We are sick, sick, sick of your leadership.
Each and every one should resign at once. this water project is the last straw. Let's not forget hw much the town audit costs, which no one seems to know the outcom.

Next time you all vote look at the history of the person running and ask youself one question. Have they ever been successful at anything?
#8 Apr 14, 2013
How will that solve anything? You would have to count out most graduating high school and college kids with that thought process. Everyone has to have a starting point of being successful.

Its not the town, its the people in it!! Nothing but druggies!

Running a town shouldn't be their starting point.
#11 Apr 14, 2013
Imo we need people with business backgrounds. Running a town is a business and shouldn't be politics. Yet we elect the most ''popular'' and ''known'' names. But it'll never change.

These sewage overflows are against DEQ’s rules and
DEQ can issue a Notice of Violation (NOV) and ultimately fine the town.
Wonder who tipped off the DEQ on this issue ???
Wonder who had the inside information ?
Wonder who stands to personnly gain ?
Vince will get a big promotion for
blowing the whistle to his boss at DEQ !
DEQ collecting the FINES and working the case !
Vince's favorite dumbass response ... "I'm
just doin what is Best for the Tooooowwwwwnnn ?
Who do you think will pay these DEQ fines ?
Saltville taxpayers - because the town cannot
afford it !

He does the best for the town but forgets the town is made up of tax paying citizens. If he did what was best for the town next election he'd run for the border.

Run and take Ron Orr with him.

I'm not a drug user, but I live 6.2 miles out of the town limits. So I have no say in who my hometown elects in town government.
If you look at all the people in the Saltville area, you have a lot of experience, foresight, honesty and talent. Strictly inside the town limits there's just the same ol' same ol people and their relatives.
Mind you, I'm not complaining about not living in town limits---I couldn't be paid enough for that. I'm just explaining what might be one of the problems.
