Under Vincent's water bill policy you could pay your bill and it could still be cut off. It happened to a friend of mine last month. He put it in the drop box at the town hall on election day. On the 27th it was cut off. Seems someone didn't credit his account. He had to go almost 16 hours without water. He went to his bank and got a copy of the canceled check. It was endorsed by the town and went thru HIS bank the 13th. Why the hell does Vinnie think that's right? The Smyth County News had an article about the last council meeting but said the check hadn't cleared by the 27th. My friend called them and they're going to run a correction because of the error. Why can't they wait until another billing period? Vinnie doesn't think that's a good idea. Says there's nothing wrong with the existing policy. BS!! When an innocent person's bill was paid on time and then cut off we have a problem. We are humans and make mistakes but the policy needs to be amended. So before they cut your water off they will give you a warning. That's in place now to help stop injustices like this one. By the way the vote was 5-1 in favor of sending someone to give a warning before cutting the water off. Vinnie was the only one opposed. Said it was a waste of town resources. Remember that the next time he's up for re-election.

We need experienced clerks in the town hall. At no time should Mrs. Carter be left alone in the office. Too much, too many things go on at one time. If the clerk balanced at the end of the day, she whould have been over. in cross checking the totals the error could be easily found because it was a check. do they not make copies of the checks before they are deposited? Going 16 hours without water is a long time. Did they refund his reconnect fee?

If what we have there can't do the job I'm sure there's someone that can. But mistakes are mistakes but the innocent are the ones that suffer. At the end of the day the ledger must balance or something's wrong. Maybe that's why the audit was needed. Council told them not to call people before this happened. They don't have much else to do at times and they know who and who's not late all the time. By the way Ms. Carter was supposed to be a temp. Seems it's permanent now.
My friend had told someone that he'd be damned if he'd paid a late charge. Since it was their mistake there wasn't one added.

Ms. Carter's salary was suppose to be 13,000.00 for part time. Since she works full time, I would guess she makes 26,000.00. Does she get benefits?
Somebody needs to check her timesheet, thy have checked everybody elses.
