There use to be a truck that went all over town to spray for musquitoes. The insecticide smelled and tasted good to kids playing along as it passed with a white cloud that would stay present for about 5 minutes. These were toxic poisions. I lived at McCready's Gap. Counting the families from Earn Mitchell's and Earl Haytons up everyone is dying of Cancer. No one in town wants to say who the company was that provided the toxins, but take a count at the Deaths by Cancer. My husband has Agent Orange from Pesticides and toxins in Viet Nam, so I know what they havew done to us. Does anybody have any information?

We used to ride our bikes behind the cloud. That sure was fun. Maybe we need to check on this.

It was DDT mixed with diesel fuel.

Thanks for your respoonse about the mosquito spray. I was almost sure it was DDT, but cannot get anyone on the council to confirm it. If you live in Saltville look around at the part of town you live in and see how many people from the 50's and 60's either have cancer or have had cancer. I know it is true and though the Chlorine plant was a threat, I think this is the biggest threat. Why won't anybody say what company made the insecticide.

Every town in the United States that sprayed for mosquitoes during that era used that combination. It was in noway unique to was the SOP until the 1972. It was approved by every organization from the Army to the UN.

There were 4 companies that manufactured the chemical. Chemical Industries Basel, Montrose, Pennwalt and Velsicol.

Years of study have shown a mix bag of carcinogenic results. It is "suspected" to be a cause of some Cancers and no link to others.

I grew up in STL at that time and remember the trucks would go around in the evenings to spray for mosquitoes. My mother had enough sense to make sure we were always in the house when it happened. She may have even closed windows; that's common sense. My mother was good about not letting us play outside after dark because she didn't want us to have mosquito bites all over us. When I grew up and had children, I practised the same rules because mosquitoes carry disease. They say bacon causes cancer, too. Have you stopped eating it? My point is that cancer is caused by a lot of things, so put on your 'big boy pants' and stop whining about what was done 60 years ago.
