Yeah, but a new coat of paint on an old car doesn't make it run any better.

Canal Park is the result of the work done by Historic Saltsburg.

The increased use of the river and resulting tourists are thanks to River & Trail.

The trails are thanks to Conemaugh Valley Conservancy, not the borough.

And as for the paint on the bridge, that's a state contract. If you recall a few years ago, it took over three weeks for the borough to paint over "Keep Out N*****" when it was painted on the bridge. Now THAT is typical Saltsburg.

I'm actually GLAD to see a few people arguing about Saltsburg. It means the town is actually alive and vibrant. Over the past 10 years, Saltsburg has really come together nicely. When I grew up there it was a hell hole. Now I'd consider moving there again...Uh, maybe not. But still it's really made a turn-around in the past decade or so.
OK-KEE_DO-KEE for Jimmy.....all I can say for the rest of the tard posts is "GROW UP"....pick up your bags and hang out in GARY,Indiana or how about Jacksonville sub-burns or how about Bay town, Tx or how about North Detroit, or Southern Philly...maybe then you would understand the concept "without".

Some of you guys whine like barbie dolls like you're restricted in a nazi-council controlled environment. Give me freakin break. Wagners or PJ or Kraveskys or whoever the hell...most of it falls on deaf ears-who have an attitude of "WHO-cares"....

What exactly are your hardships from these bozos?????

Ummmm.....maybe a new chief of Police might be one...

Besides Jimmy, Do the rest of you realize you are dealing with a landmark town older that 1776....our bicentennial.......Do some research on Saltsburg, its amazing its still here. From the Glass factory to the 1850's railroad to A&P to Verone's meats to the Movie theater to Robinson'car dealership to the railroad station (which I grew up next to)...to Robert Frost who visited our town....ummm...it deserves some respect, maybe not at the level of council though.

The council will not destroy that pre-19th century history (at least memory-wise----but maybe physically thanks to PJ INC.---rent-a-Tard 4 profit!)

This town gets quite a bit of attention from our friends from Kiski Prep whether you like it or not, and the dinner discussions (usually at BROWNS) are on are the potential of investment in our town based on it's history dated pre-1800. Should you ask, I have been at several of these dinners / gatherings.

Bottom line, I use to call it a heel hole in my 20's...until I grew up.

maybe some of the rest of you should as well and make the best of what you got.

hey guys I grew up in Avonmore in the 70's, when I go beck now it makes me feel bad. When I drive through Saltsburg, things appear in general, a whole lot brighter.

I dont know much about the corruption, but it doesnt sound good. Greed is a big motivator.

There were a bunch of good lookin gals up there too

I agree with you, but all my praise of Saltsburg aside, I need to address the biggest problem that town has in my opinion:

Even though it's cleaned itself up over the years, there still isn't a damn thing to to there! Think about it. What good is a pretty little picturesque town, when it doesn't have any redeemable social or entertainment value? For all of the strides in the right direction Saltsburg has taken over the past 10 years, the recreational menu for it's young people has remained timeless: Drugs and boredom.

Organized youth activities aren't exclusive to big cities. They can work in small towns, and can actually add to the overall charm and personality of the town. I'm not talking about boy scouts or bible camp either. I'm talking about a music venue /night club, a skate park, etc.

Of course any entrepreneur who dares bring an idea like this to Saltsburg is gonna get shot down in a heartbeat (and maybe actually shot) by the town council. God forbid they allow any type of real, structured "fun" for the youth in the town.

No no. Heroin is much safer and a way better outlet for our kids than live music and skateborading.

The last person who attempted to bring these ideas into town was run out of town by council because he disagreed with them and had better ideas than them. That is the thanks anyone around here gets who tries to improve the town by activities not under the direct control of Wagner, Kravetsky, Rocco or Brown. If they and their friends cannot have a piece of the pie ($$$$), then no idea will survive, and subsequently, neither will the town.

What piece of what pie? Lol, that's pathetic. I didn't know it was that bad. Well then, I guess Saltsburg's fuct.

Another example of how small towns in Western PA are backwards.

Well, lets say now about the new boro council. The citizens only elected one new member with the others being old members. Dont think much will change

The first order of business is to get the Kravetskys, and wagners out of the council seat. Lets look into the budget and spending by the boro and what foolish expenses they pay Lifestat AMB. WOW.$3000.00 the boro pays lifestat. Someone needs to fix that problem. Now with the new election of DA, Mr Frank Stanley will not be employed. Now WHAT. Frank needs to stay on his retirement from the PSP. The expense of $6000.00 a year needs to be gone from the boro. That is just foolish. Does Cookie have anything to do with that. Lets see---Frank and Cookie $6000.00 a year. Lets investigate!!!

People are by nature lazy and vote for whomever is on the ballot. Unfortunately, there was no organized write in campaigns and few know who Paul Klucsarits is. Of course Drew Rummel was the short lived grandson-in-law and nephew-in-law of Wagner and Kravetsky. And though his marriage to Wagner Jr's daughter was short lived, he is still tight with Wagner, Kravetsky and Cookie. SO all he would have been is another puppet like Michelle Jesko. But they need not despair. When Bev Caranese resigns from council to take her position on the school board, they will push to appoint Rummel to replace her. Hopefully, Jack Edmundson will be a thorn in their sides, though they will try to shut him out just like they do Beverly.

Never going to happen until the people stand up, but that won't happen either. And as long as Cookie is on council, Frank will stay on the boro payroll. How else are they going to afford to go out.

It's funny about the insurance for Lifestat. When they first started, for 12 years council refused to pay their insurance though they claimed they were a "volunteer" service, yeah, right. Council even paid the solicitor to research the matter and he determined they were not eligible BY LAW, a fact which is in the boro minutes. But miraculously, when Tammy got on council, the boro started paying their insurance WITHOUT an act by council or even public announcement or any comment from the solicitor. Of course, he wouldn't bite the hand that feeds him.

Nothing short of a miracle will force any changes around here.

That statement is universal to this entire region, not only Saltsburg. Nothing is ever going to change here. This is a blue-haired old crow's paradise completely devoid of culture, progress, and rational thought. The constant gray skies are a fitting backdrop to this landlocked little whacked-out village called Western Pennsylvania.

I've read post after post on this site, and others by the few people left in this region with an individual thought process. They talk about change, gentrification and renaissances. What they fail to realize is that they're gonna be talking about those things until the day they die, or until they've burned themselves out and finally decide to move away.

What does Drew Rummel really know about Saltsburg? Just what Wagners, Kavetsky, and Rocco tell him! Which is what they think should be. What a joke! These people need to think of this town and the people not themselves and how they can get ahead. Hey wait lets watch a stop sign so we can give out tickest, when kids are vandelizing businesses. What is wrong with that? One more thing, let them try to elect Drew when Bev leaves. Jack Edmundson is truely a match for them. I think he will give them a run, he cares about this town not about what Wagners, Kravetsky, and Rocco want.
