Sadly it seems that Saltsburg is heading in the same direction as so many of the other small towns in the area. From what I've heard, heroin and crack are beginning to really infest the town.

Having said that, as a resident I wanna know where the heroin and crack houses are, so I can avoid walking past them if possible. Serious responses only please, as this is a serious topic that is killing your kids.

Did alot of growing up in Saltsburg, and haven't been there for 20 years. Read alot of the news articles though. Some good, some bad. That is just horrific. Hope someone gets the best of the situation before it gets the best of the town. I have alot of great memories from there. I've seen and lived about what crack houses do to cities (Harrisburg and Seattle) it is devistating and extremely violent. I lost the love of my life to gun fire when someone was on a shotting spree over drugs. Get the best of that situation, Don't let it get the best of the town.

Heroin has got most of the area's youth by the balls. It has transcended every tax bracket and every social clique. It's now more prolific than marijuana was 20 years ago.

I'm 31, and when I was in high school heroin wasn't even mentioned in health class. They were too busy telling us about how weed was a "gateway" drug, and how it fried your brain. Well, it turned out the only "gateway" to heroin was the invasion of Afghanistan which inadvertently completely squashed that country's main source of commerce (aside from rugs)...heroin. So, Columbia picked up the ball, started producing a powdered form of heroin that could be snorted like cocaine, and began distributing it on the east coast just like they did coke in the 80's. Eventually it made it's way here, where (amazingly) the people were too stupid to realize the dangers of it, and it caught on. Long story short, it's an epidemic now.

This is a serious response to your moronic post. You heard what, where, from whom? Did the people you heard this from have any details? NO. Didn't think so.

How do I know, because you are full of crap. People who use crack and heroin overdose on a regular basis. When was the last heroin or crack OD in Sburg?

You must not live here, otherwise you would know that Blairsville, Derry, and Latrobe are the drug capitals of the area, not Sburg.

Blaming the entire world, and going back in history is not about today. People in the US have thier own meth labs, 1,000's of pounds and/or kilos are taken every year. The issue is that it is each and every own person to just say not interested. With all the ads, talks, lectures, and everything else out there about the results of drugs, the newborn child should already know to say not interested. Can't blame elsewhere let alone another country for what possibly the neighbor of today is doing.

In response to who said it's funny. It's not but it is. No more from me because my remembering the past is also like reading about the today. Some people thought that when I was 15. Thirty-five years later, some are still thinking that and still arguing about the school. I always wondered if they ever got the mule and the canal together. It's just so...whatever.

You tard. Blairsville, Derry and Latrobe are nearly within walking distance through the woods from this town. It's all the same "area". Just because you're obviously a townie and these other towns seem a world away from Saltsburg, doesn't mean they are.

And yes, heroin and crack are present in Saltsburg. Heroin isn't big here YET, but give it a couple of years. Crack is big here already, and has been for several years. It's a damn good thing that Blairsville and Saltsburg didn't merge into one giant school district, because guess what...That would've opened the flood gates for heroin in Saltsburg. I have a couple of friends who recently graduated from Blairsville, and heroin is an epidemic in that school.

I agree. I am grateful to live in this town...
I can walk to the store or sit on my porch after dark without any sense of threat or concern for my well-being.
I can walk out the door and go to ANY of my neighbors if I need a hand or encouragement or just a smile.
I hear children playing outside on any given day after school.
We are pretty close to Pittsburgh, and I think if there were gangs, or a crack house, or overdoses even if I am in a deluded state of oblivion, the Nightly News would be right on that.
Now, Mr. "Bpb Barfer" what's your goal here? Do you not live here and perhaps are jealous? Are you truely concerned, and think there should be some sort of a preventive citizen's group to get a jump on something you know is right around the corner? Or are you just some moron, whose goal is to attract some evil. Or are you so nasty and negative that that is all you can see around you?

I am of the opinion that there is no more of a problem here than anywhere else, however it is my opinion a tremendous amount of drugs pass thru this town. Why are there always cars parked at the lot across from Glassmart at three am. This is the gateway to pittsburg, new ken, vandergrift! all these areas are very high drug infested. And for the drugs to get to the rich little college kids at IUP? they go 380/286 or Rt.22.

i worked in pittsburgh and i was always so proud to say that i was from saltsburg it is so beautiful, especially, in the fall as you ascend to the bridge with all the colors, just lovely and some of the nicest people live here. i suppose drugs are a problem but that is everywhere. comparing saltsburg to blairsville is like comparing a big red shiny apple to a big stinking pile of manure.. blairsville is really one of the nastiest looking towns around. the blairsville school on the other hand is a nice looking school and they do seem to do a lot for the kids its just that the highway and country roads between the 2 towns is pretty dangerous maybe the folks in sburg should do some type of study on the number accidents on 22 to prove a case to keep the school in sburg.

First, you state the obvious about Saltsburg's unique natural beauty and small-town charm. Then you follow by brushing off the significance of a drug problem with your asinine assumption that it's going on everywhere.

Sure, in small towns you're gonna have drugs. Marijuana, underage drinking, even a little coke....You're gonna find that in every small town in America. What you WON'T find in every small town in America, and what should NEVER be condoned or minimalized are HARDCORE drugs like heroin and crack cocaine.

Look at it from a different prospective: Murder. Murder's illegal right? Murder is harmful to human health, right? Well, what if not one, but dozens of murders started happening in Saltsburg? Big cities have lots of murders, so why not? Or what about gangs? How bout' we import some inner-city blacks into our nice little town so that we have turf wars that are decided with Uzi-fire? No big deal, right? Hell, it's happening in Pittsburgh so why not here?

Some of us are intelligent enough to see things coming. One or two junkies in town will lead to several dozen within a few years. You don't like Blairsville? Tough sht, because if action isn't taken, Saltsburg will join it's ranks.
