Sewage runneth over?

There are 4 comments on the Desert Sun story from Jul 17, 2007, titled Sewage runneth over?. In it, Desert Sun reports that:

“We've had other directors deny there's any problem”

Untreated sewage is seeping out of Salton City's burdened wastewater treatment system and into a wash that ultimately leads to the Salton Sea, experts say. via Desert Sun

It's been a long time coming. This situation has been going on for almost 10 years that I know of. The only corrections that I know that were done to contain this problem was to add more dirt to cover up the mess, lower the seeping pond by opening up an unused pond and move the chain link fence out farther to keep the seepage on District property. This only worked for awhile.
The District did have samples taken and the samples showed that it was seepage sewer water coming from the south side of the pond. That is when the work stated above started.
Funny how now they came to the conclusion that a spring just happened to appear. If that was the problem, that pond should have been shut down completely and the pond just to the north of the seeping pond should have been open. The reason it wasn't was because it was in worse shape than the seeping pond.
The reasons for the seepage is due to improper maintenance and using the ponds over and over again without shutting them down to maintain. This is not the only time this has been done. In Desert Shores a property owner near the ponds received clean up of his property, claiming leakage from those ponds.

I've been paying sewer taxes on my property in Salton City for 44 years, and now that I want to connect into the sewer that is right at my lot, I'm told that there is a sewer moratorium and no one will be able to connect to the sewer because they (SCSD) does't have enough treatment capacity to handle the people that are already connected to the sewer system. It's time that a Grand Jury made an investigation into the questionable dealings, finances, inept decisions and total incompetancy of the SCSD board members (at least 4 of the 5 of them). There's an election coming up in November for some of the current board members. LET'S GET RID OF THEM BEFORE THEY DO ANY MORE HARM! I understand that one of them doesn't even have his primary residence within the district limits...THIS IS NOT ALLOWED!!!

This district has been skimming-off 1/3 of the interest on a 7 million dollar sewer construction and maintenance fund for years to "PAY FOR OFFICE OVERHEAD". This is the same fund that was supposed to be used to avert the exact situation they have now caused which has resulted in the sewer moratorium. THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE DEALT WITH...HARSHLY!!!!

I totally concur about new people on the Board along with a few others. If you have been paying the full amount of being hooked up to the sewer as a home owner that should account for you to be hooked up to the sewer at the rate of when you first started paying the home owner sewer tax if not already paid.If paid they should hook you up for free and if it is the homeowner sewre tax it should be counted and hooked up now.
Sadly to say that if it is the lot only sewer tax you will have to wait until the ban is lifted. Hope this helps.

Worth Saving.......... If you have only been paying the LOT sewer tax, sadly to say you will have to wait for the ban to be lifted. But if you have been paying the Home Owners sewer tax you should be hooked up to the sewer, for your home is counted in the equation. Especially if you alredy paid the hook up fee years ago. GOOD LUCK!
