Greetings Fish; why do you consider the land here on the west shores as contaminated environment? You are looking at a multiplicity of soils types, all within a short distance from one another. Unless you get above the ancient highwater mark, you're looking at former seabed. other areas are alluvial fill from rainwaters carrying soils from the mountains. Look to Imperial county for soils information. Get a solis report for your specific lot before you build. Look the the Salton Sea Authority for the history of water and the Sea.

CONTAMINATED?
There are many human beings living in this area, who have homes, children, and productive lives!
Why do you think that this area is contaminated?
Do you want land cheap that you can re-sell before the buyer you find finds out this area MIGHT be contaminated??
You are not the kind of person we want in this area!
Go somewhere else to make your mega-bucks!!
WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE!!!!!!!!!

Dont judge me Long Time Resident. Im not looking to buy and re sell as you so accused me of. Im looking to retire in a place where there is not many people. And for the contamination you might want to look at this link.

You need to learn respect for your new neighbors.
An attitude like yours will get you in trouble with the law.
Take a chill pill before you end up insane.
Just some friendly advice.

Fish,
Sorry -- your original question of 'I'm not willing to spend a lot for a contaminated environment' just set me off.
If you are looking for a low populated environment, at low cost, with a LOT of friendly neighbors, then you have found it.
Just infuriates me that the state, the Salton Sea Authority (that cost us who knows how much), and Imperial County continues to ignore the wonderful asset they have (collect money from it) and then refuse to acknowledge what they actually have.
This area could be such a big money-maker not only for the local area; but the only SEA in the United States -- the largest body of water in the state of California -- and potentially the largest tax base that Imperial County (the poorest county in California) has is just mind boggling to me.
I did read the link that you refered me to and it is just totally disheartening to think that so many people are willing to let this beauty die for simply LACK OF ATTENTION.
Anyway, welcome to the neighborhood; and please come here with the full intention of helping it survive.

Hey Long Time Resident,

Thanks for the welcome. Im looking forward to moving out of where im at away from the city. I want a change in my life. I have been wanting to buy a lot near the salton sea for some time now and with all the problems with the economy, and people cant afford to stay in their homes now, times are bad. I just want to get away from all the stress out here. What im looking forward to is the sea itself. I love to sail, and i have a 22 foot sailboat i would love to take out on the salton sea. I just hope that i can find a lot i can afford that is near the water. Believe me when I tell you that I do come with the full intention of helping the salton sea survive. I love the sea, and if there is something i can do to help, I would do it.

P.S RE: to (New to the area)
I looked at that page before a few weeks ago and tryed to contact them about some land that i could afford but they responded with a peice of land that was way out of my money range. They seem to not want to respond to any of my emails when it comes to land that I can afford. I really dont know what im going to do if i cant get a response from them. I know that the land they offer that i can afford is avalible. I might have to buy land up in northern california if no one wants to sell me land here. I would hate to do that.

You might want to consider buying a hud foreclosed home. go to this website http://hud2.towerauction.net/CA.htm In search type in 92275 by zip code.

If you want something cheaper like a mobile home in a park or on land try www.craigslist.com then go to california then imperial county. Good Luck

New to the area,
Sorry for the original outburst, but please don't call this area contaminated. It is not. It goes through it's cycals of fish die-off, algae bloom, and so-forth.
You might want to check out the Imperial County tax default sales coming up in February.
People who have inherited property here, or have just decided it is not worth paying their yearly property taxes have let it go back to the county.
It's for sale for the cost of back taxes. Put a 20-year old mobile home on it and you have a nice home for 'probably' around 50 thousand dollars.(Just a guess). GOOD LUCK!

Fish,
There are a lot of options to look at. There are a lot of forclosed homes in this area.
There are also a lot of properties each year for aution simply for back taxes due (both vacant lots and those with homes on them). Imperial County usually holds this auction for simply back taxes due sometime each February.
Quite honestly you would have the Sea completely to yourself with your sailboat -- it has been many, many years since I have seen any kind of seacraft on the Sea.
Where else can you have such a vast body of water to yourself and your seacraft for such a comparitively small amount of money?

Hey Fish, what is your price range? I am just curious. Are you only looking for land or are you looking for a house on land? Are you thinking about the west shore? Have you ever been to the Salton Sea?

Fish,
You might want to contact a guy named Joe at the West Shores Market.(call 411 for Salton City).
He just told me he bought a forclosed home and he is REALLY motivated to get rid of his double-wide in a local mobile home park. He told me he is really willing to deal with anyone seriously interested. His selling price for the doublewide is $25,000.00 and he will carry the deal. The park rent is $350.00 a month.
Good luck!

SSB guy,

I would like to buy some land or a lot if I could just get one of these sellers to reply to my emails but no luck so far. Tryed to contact the seller about info on a few lots he was selling but he replied offering me a lot that was way out of my price range and never responded to me about the other lots he had for sale that was less expensive. I have been to the salton sea a few years ago to look at a lot that was selling for $2500. Thats why im so intrested in buying a lot there because the price is right and the area is perfect for me. I have a buddy that lives in brawley and i am familiar with the area. I fell in love with the area when i first saw it years ago. I also found an add for 2.5 acres for $4000 and they sent a email to me saying its avalible and left his number but he never called me back. I dont really want land with a house on it because im planning on putting a mobile home up. I dont mind if its at the west shore, I just want to get land anywhere near the sea for my sailboat.

Hey Long Time Resident,

I really want to just own land there. The reason is because I want to get away from paying rent for the rest of my life. I just want to buy the land with cash payed in full and get the deed in my name, that would be great. I have never owned any land in my whole life and have always lived from pay check to pay check, and its making me miserable. After I get the land, My plan is to put a used mobile home on the land and fix it up and move into it. My goal is to own land and a house rent free and that will allow me to save enough to improve the property, Things like putting up a fence putting in trees and a lawn, maybe a pool. ya know, things like that. But thanks for all the info you all are giving me. I really appreciate the help.

thanks

Fish,
Didn't want to make you feel even more frustrated; I was just offering another possible option.
I really do wish you luck in acheiving your goal.
I really do think that your best option at this point is to wait for the Imperial County tax auction in February (unless you can get some real estate agent to respond to you).
Just be careful with your cash up front offer for complete ownership. Do your research!
GOOD LUCK!
