Closing West Shores HS was not an action item on the CVUSD's school board meeting agenda last Thursday, February 12th. After a budget update, however, the school board agreed by consensus to remove West Shores from its list of possible cuts.

The scheduled board meeting at West Shores at 7pm on February 26th will still be a very important meeting. West Shores community members should attend this meeting for two reasons. First, to demonstrate community support for the school and express appreciation for keeping it open. Second, to contribute any ideas that may constructively impact cuts or improve income.

Although my children have long since graduated I am forever gratefull that the CVUSD chose to not close the West Shores High simply to balance their budget. This is my children's alumni -- this is the place they attended school and put their hearts and souls into supportng. To close this school would take away everything that THEY put into it.
To take this school away from this community would not only take away everything every parent and student of the past has put into it, it would put so many current students on a very busy dangerous highway that they have no need to be on!
The CVUSD Board can take away a little from EACH school within it's jurisdiction without taking away ALL from one school.
Thank you for being logical or for giving into mass community objection. Whichever, thank you for not taking the current students away from the community that they live in.
The communtiy is the school. The school is the community. To close a local school would take away SOOOO many things from the students that live in this area.
Commuting to school an additional hour-and-a-half each day not only would take away sleep, it would take away time spent with family, and forget about after school activities - which are VERY important to a well rounded student!

There is also a Public Hall Meeting on FEB 18 at the SCSD starting at 6PM about the schools. Just because they have said this now, doesn't mean that in the near future they won't change their mind. They have until the 26th to give their answer, so we need to show CVUSD that we will not tolerate a closure in the future in a nice way.

I hope many in the Community will come to the Public Hall Meeting.

Where in the SCSD's Power does it say that the District has ANYTHING to do with schools.

The district can however install a street light at the main street entrance to the new elementary school (So. Marina). That was tried at last months Board meeting by Director Barrett but none of the other 4 Directors even wanted to discuss it.

I said it then and I say it now: The blood is on their hands!
