Note that "Bishops" in the Mormon faith are first line lay clergy.

This could be any church or mosque almost anywhere in the West.
Can't speak for other faiths due to insufficient experience although I suspect Buddhists may be different..

Do this surprise anyone at all?

Having wealth has been equated to being "blessed."

And those who aren't wealthy are sinners or lazy and they should be ignored or scapegoated.

So which is the more powerful message? Jesus or today's media (news, commercials, celebrity gossip columns, etc.) propaganda?

This article answers that question.

This should be on the 'Why I'm no longer a Christian' thread in Top Stories.
So many claim America as a Christian nation. Founded on the laws and promises of the Christian God.
Yet, if this were so, then there would be no homeless on our streets.
No wounded veterans suffering alone and freezing to death on our sidewalks.
The insane would be in safe keeping, not free to roam like stray dogs.
WWJD?
Today's homeless and hurting ones, were the lepers of Jesus' day.
For all the pomp and circumstance; all the multimillion dollar ministries, the grand televised charitable deeds...
nothing has really changed in over 2000 years.

I guess you missed the speech in which Obama said we are NOT a Christian nation.

And you don't seem to get what this actually means:

"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

Nor do you understand this:

"...but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
Article VI

Note that this is -not- an amendment but part of the original Constitution.

Not a bit of which is relevant to my post.

How does "no religious test" relate to the fact that Obama stated we are not a Christian nation?

And he was correct. The United States does not have state religion.

There is a difference between a nation with a majority of Christians and a Christian nation.

You apparently speak English. Do you understand it?
