Sounds to me like this selection process is more slanted to the Latino agenda than anything else. Is not there a bit of discriminatory behavior in this demand? Does not this violate the "equal opportunity" idea? Please!!! Latinos---Congratulations on shedding your training wheels in the land of prejudice.

it is amazing how many Hispanics are racist. That is expressing the belief that anyone other than another Hispanic could possibly be qualified for any job. Twenty years from now it will be interesting when whites are a minority in California and we will see how many Hispanics support affirmative action then. As long as we continue to point out our differences we will never work for the common good. By the way, if you were going in for major surgery would you require the Doctor be Hispanic or would you want the most qulified Doctor doing the operation? That's what I thought.

Let the Board of Trustees make their decision without race as a pre-qualifier. I'd hope they'd choose the best candidate for the job, whether that be the interim president or someone else. This posturing and public soap-boxing by Fernando and Company is business as usual in Salinas. What it's likely to do is chase the interim president away and leave the field open for a race-based decision. This serves no one. Wasn't Hartnell placed on probation last year for underperforming it's educational mission?
In the words of Dirty Harry in Magnum Force, "That's a hell of a price to pay for being stylish".......

Helm's influence on the composition of the Screening Committee extended far beyond simply picking the two administrators. Helm chose Aaron Johnson to chair the Screening Committee, and then falsely stated the Board of Trustees chose Johnson. In fact, the Board never took such a vote, as the Board minutes show. Helm also interviewed several volunteers for the two community representatives, and then unilaterally selected the two who actually served. Anyone in doubt can contact former Hartnell Board member Mark Dierolf, who was interviewed and rejected by Helm. Helm also vetoed the original individual that Hartnell's La Raza chapter selected to represent it, and insisted on interviewing several members of La Raza from which she would unilaterally select the one to serve. Anyone can verify this by simply contacting the members of La Raza at Hartnell. Most members of the Screening Committee were interviewed and personally approved by Helm. Helm has consistently prevaricated (to put it charitably) about the magnitude of her role in choosing the Screening Committee, and this does not augur well for her honesty, integrity, or ethics.

I find her more acceptable than any member of La Raza or any of their racist member groups.

Hartnell College has a long history of hiring bad presidents. Helm is no different. Hardt made his money and then left the state. Valeau made his money and returned home to the Haward/Oakland area. And Helm will make her money and then go back to her home in Chicago. Then the cycle starts over again to find another greedy president.

Helm's dishonesty and iniquity can be demonstrated by contrasting her quoted utterances with documentary evidence such as Board Minutes. But you find her preferable to "any" member of La Raza. Can you demonstrate the untruthfulness and moral turpitude of every member of La Raza? Do you even know every member of La Raza? If not, it would seem your dislike of every member of La Raza is based on racial criteria, and that consequently, you are the racist. I am not Hispanic (I'm a white Roman, and I crucified you---Spartacus or Sparticus, however you spell your name----along the Appian Way two millennia ago), but I recognize it would be desirable if a "Hispanic-serving institution" like Hartnell hired a Hispanic president; such a president would be a role model for Hartnell's overwhelmingly Hispanic student body, and would likely, owing to similarities in culture and background, be more sympathetic to and knowledgable about such a student body. However, the most important consideration is to have a leader with two qualities: probity and competence. There are Hispanic candidates with these qualities, and Dr. Cervantes is likely one of them. Helm, on the other hand, is woefully and demonstrably deficient in the first quality.

Read their charter. Review the member groups within the organization. Research their activities on school campus'. And finaly review the "latino" studies class'.If you can . Seems several school superintendents who have these activists on their campus' have been refused a complete sylabus of the class' content. This is occuring in Az. I have No doubt that it is occuring anywhere this group has membership. They do not teach anything other than white-hatred,brown power and carving up America. An for the record I never stated that no brown American was qualified only ant one with links to La Raza and its member groups.(including the brown berets)

Marcus Licinius Crassus? You sound more like Winston Frigging Churchillius, or Thomas Frigging Jeffersonius!!! Way to doll up our putrid old English language!!! Or "Ingles" as "La Raza" followers would say.
Doesn't "La Raza" mean "The Race," as in "the one and only superior race?" I've always found this usage by "latinos" somewhat fatuous. Of course, I've often wondered about folks who get outraged over being referred to as "Mexican-Americans" instead of "latinos;" "hispanics" instead of "chicanos," and so forth.
When the world stops making race-based decisions and concentrates instead on probity and competence alone we will all be much better off. Of course, that day will come when pigs fly...
