From the article:

" ... My take was how they used fear of losing religious freedom in favor of taking protections away from Salinans ... "

Apparently, cognitive dissonance is a common condition in that part of Kansas.

There were maybe 200 people, at most, for their big pep rally and I would be surprised if half of them were actually residents of Salina. Once again most of the bigots had to be bussed in.

No, friend, it's the gay pride folk that are the travelling activists - commuting from one city's gay pride festival to the next, giving the veneer of strenght in numbers.

Says the gentleman posting from Texas and pretending that he knows what is going on in Salina. I've been seeing friends and neighbors at the rallies for equality, been seeing a lot of out of towners at the events staged by those supporting legalized discrimination.

Why does protecting our values from the aggressive assault from liberals constitute bigotry?

You gay activists can only count your lucky stars that the unenlightened masses are sufficiently dumbed-down by your propaganda agents in the media that we won't notice your takeover, and just blissfully go along with it just to be on the, safe side, the "right" side of history, as you put it.

The people pushing these type of bills in Salina are at war with American values, and will not stop until those value systems are busted apart to the degree that we are numb and indifferent to the most depraved and unhealthy values that you gays demand we celebrate. When you must degrade the historical values of a Society, a culture, just to force them to affirm your lifestyle, I got new for your friend, "Rick", that's called takeover. You can paint it with disarming terms like "tolerance" "inclusiveness" and "diversity", but adopting those type of things implies consent. Your agenda abolishes the consent of the American people, bypasses it. As one gay activist blogger I was debating put it, the American people don't know what's best for them, they need laws decided for them by enlightened leaders. And I think rick in kansas typifies that thinking.

Your demanding the civil right to be legally permitted to discriminate against people based on nothing more than your fantasies about their possible sex life or your disapproval of how they choose to express their gender is a "value" deserving of not being "attacked"? Why would you imagine that? Just because YOU keep telling us that GOD says HE approves of this? You want to proclaim the allegedly God given right to make our lives as legally as miserable as possible here on Earth, if given the opportunity, because you have chosen to believe that God chooses to hate us and/or your sexual fantasies about us too. Gotcha.

I think I just got a message from God for you. I thought I had cut for pasting your whole "quote = who", but what I got instead was the last thing on my clipboard. Romans 2:1-8. You actually got the full text of it from the Amplified version from another discussion. Take that for whatever meaning you want to give to it.

It is you who are fighting against the light of enlightenment here, demanding that WE live in a self-imposed darkness and denial of these gifts WE have been given by our "creator". YOU proclaim to know our minds, our hearts, our sex lives, our histories, our relationships with our friends and families, our relationships with God and all of mankind far better than we can ourselves, because you say God says you do and for you, that is the point where the refrigerator door closes and the little tiny penguin comes out to turn off the light.

The right to be served in places of public accommodation on a free and equal basis, the right to employment on a free and equal basis, the right to rent or own housing on a free and equal basis, the right to governmental and other services on a free and equal basis, are probably the most depraved and unhealthy values that we are demanding to be celebrated. What, "the most depraved and unhealthy values that we are demanding to be celebrated", is clearly in the eyes of the beholder. Just asking that the law treat us like everyone else, no more, no less. The ordinance takes away no one's religious liberty to believe whatever they want to in regards to the classifications added to the law, but just as with their religious beliefs in regards to any of the other classifications, those who fit into those classifications don't have to legally suffer from discrimination because of your choices. Unless you are on the business end of a religion, your right as an individual to impose your religious beliefs on others in business is rather limited.

You are the ones who are degrading the historical values of our society by insisting on exercising what you believe to be your God given right to make our lives as legally miserable as possible. There's no room in the inn, God says so.

Mmm, yeah, you don't have to believe that God hates them any less, you just have to treat them as you would anyone, you or anyone else would treat someone you say God hates. Equally.
Alan wrote:

Sometimes the American people do the leading to our better instincts, other times they need to be led. I was brought up on values of personal freedom tempered with responsibility, equality and inevitable justice for the individual, my parents should be ashamed.

Why would we elect people as leaders but not expect to be led by them, at least once in a while? If not for courageous leaders America would never have been led to where it is today.

You really haven't offered me a really good reason why we should have the right to do unto others things that would thoroughly piss the hell out of ourselves if done unto us, because we made the mistake of trying to do business with someone who turns out to have chosen to believe God hates us for some irrelevant reason.

Vote no, Don't legalize discrimination.

One need not make a single reflection on, or reference of the God of the Bible to have just cause to discriminate against homosexuality, no. Or fantasies or delusions. We just have to reference the many studies, like the ones by the C.D.C. and others revealing the abyssmal degeneracy associated with the gay and transexual lifestyle. Your drastic overrepresentation in H.I.V., Syphilis, Hepatitus, and almost every other S.T.D. is good enough for me to resist anybody trying to promote this lifestyle. Sh*t - just the body of anecdotal evidence about what goes on at bath houses! The rampant restroom and park promiscuity - it's all there and reflected in studies and in real life. It's enough for me to not want kids to have any exposure or knowledge whatsoever of this lifestyle until they're safely mature enough.

I don't need God to have the wisdom that homosexuality is wrong, and that those who promote it must be stopped.

Professing himself to be wise, he proved himself a fool. Confusing homosexuals who make unfortunate choices out of ignorance or lust with all homosexuals is just as wrong-headed as confusing the failures of heterosexuality with all heterosexuals and certainly not a rational basis for deciding anything. You have chosen to remain ignorant and ill informed and you shall not be stopped until EVERYONE is as ignorant and ill-informed as you are. And you wonder why you are finding opposition.

So...every homosexual in those studies were the impulsive variety given to ignorance and lust and thus exeptions to the rule? CAre to document that variable? How did you quantify it? A recent CDC study of 23 major American cities found that 1 in 5 homosexuals were H.I.V. positive, and almost half didnt' even know it. Is that the type of "ignorance" that I might spread to other people? Let me guess...if they fact-check that research themselves and repeat it, they instantly become a homophobe - spreading ignorance and bigotry.

Just because clear, hard facts don't set well with you doesn't mean they can just be wrote off as ignorance, bias, bigotry, or hatred. That's the intellectually-lazy way out. That's a weasly cop-out. I'm starting to see that unless you agree with homosexuals all of the time, on every single point, you are a homophobe. In fact, "homophobia" can be defined as "any failure to actively praise homosexuality any time the subject is raised". And a "bigot" is a thoughtful, conscientious folk to wise and discerning to be swayed by gay propaganda.

About the CDC numbers, it SHOULD read: "1 in 5 homosexuals that use free clinics"

That's where the numbers are collected.

Makes a big difference in the meaning.

The out of city, probably out of State special gay rights supporter's leader said he estimated 40 supporters protesting, when pictures show only 12. These deranged people are constantly shown to be liars having to beat the small, stinky underbelly of Kansas to even have twelve.

You mean 1 in 5 gay men who went to free clinics, right?

That's not the same as 1 in 5 gay people in the country.

Typical liberal tactic - so predictable you could set your watch to it: when you don't like the findings, try to obfuscate and trivialize their origins.

you are but a rank-and-file hedonistic revolutionary, who makes no qualms about throwing the proverbial baby out with the cultural bathwater just so you are granted your grandiose version of entitlement and "rights". You've no problem with abolishing and bypassing Constitutional Freedoms, the wisdom of thousands of years of human history, the doctrines of all the world's major religions, the unyealding, unbiased findings of science, and the very testament of your own bodies just so you get granted that ever-elusive Government stamp of "normalcy" which your own consciences refuse to allow you all (gays) to accept organically.

If gays adopted an honest slogan that reflected their true views of things, it'd go something like, "gays rule, Humanity sucks".

Yes dear, there were roughly twelve people in that photograph, but it was not a photograph of all the protesters who were there. A second group of roughly the same size was at the opposite entrance to the building and a third group was stretched out along one of the streets to the building. In total, there were roughly 40 people taking part in the protest, not all of whom were pictured. We are not afraid of the likes of you anymore.

Wow, you know that even if just one word of that little rant were true, that would have been good, but instead we get nothing more than empty rhetoric. Equal treatment for people based on their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, just as it is guaranteed on a number of other classifications, is a grandiose version of entitlement that flies in the face of yada, yada, yada. Hysterical much Martha? Your obvious lack of coping skills is no one's problem but your own, buttercup and it certainly shouldn't be seen as a valid reason to legally discriminate against others just because y'all say God is cool with it. Jesus weep for your alleged Christians, they know what they do but they still do it anyways.
