Salem has an active grant writing committee looking for funding sources to get the town on it's feet again. Yesterday's meeting was very productive and shows how when people work together for Salem, things will get done. I hope the City Council can learn from an example of cooperation and civility- and I hope the people of Salem will demand that the council does what's best for Salem from now on

Rumor around town is the pool is about to be burried and become a distant memory, and the barn torn down with a promise of having new fields and a community center yet another pipe dream.

An activity center is at the top of the list--As for the pool, the Parks and Recreation committee is not sharing what their plan is. The people should ask for an update. Maybe write the question down on a piece of paper and put it in a suggestion box at city hall. Unfortunately, not a lot of people use this forum in Salem. Some members of council think what people say here is not worth listening to. I disagree.

Any plan that Parks board has would require the approval of council anyway. Too much power grabing and too many people think they are in charge pareticularly when you appoint members of the park board who dont even live in salem.

I agree with you- I don't go to council meeting for the same reason.

Time for Salem to fold up and close down. Enough is enough. Water has already been put in place from Clarksburg because of former corruption, business are closing down and now the University will be closing. The people have had enough and the council is a bigger joke than third world governments. These fairy tale dreams people have are never going to be a reality, the town is done, has been done for awhile. Quit beating a dead horse. The county commission doesn't even want to put money into Salem, heard they wished Doddridge would just annex it and chan ge the county border a bit.
The so called leaders of the town are a joke and have no clue how to do anything to move forward, that's why it's constant arguing.
It is time, take down the city signs and put up the unincorporated ones.

I've jokingly said the same thing, I'm sure Doddridge County would like to have Salem, but there are still a few people who have good ideas and the enthusiasm to try them. Don't give up just yet. Anyone with an idea to help Salem should write a note-on paper or at the city website.

So there will be a meeting next Monday and Tuesday?

Yes, the meeting Monday is a special meeting because the Mayor wants council to vote on binding agreements with the oil and gas company WITHOUT the advice of the city attorney. The meeting on Tuesday is the regular council meeting.
I am not accusing anyone- because I have no evidence. I am asking a question- Why is it so important for the Mayor to have things done so quickly, and without having an expert in oil and gas contract negotiation advise the city?

I believe the pool is going to be torn out and then filled in remember it does not belong to Salem anyway, and the town does not have enough money to build repair or cover insurance and hire employees to run it, As for the barn and it being torn down Iv`e heard the same rumor but I also know it cant be torn down to make way for a new ball field or anything because it listed as a historical site and there are many processes it must go thru to be torn down. Alas as we all know Salem is falling apart because of RUMORS it has run on RUMORS for a long time because the town has no way of getting the real news out about what is going on everything is always rushed and hush hush. I wont go to council meetings ever again because I don`t feel comfortable being put in a room that clearly has to much anger and its sooooo small that I believe its dangerous to my life if something or someone gets out of hand . The town need to step up and become more open and upfront with the issue`s at hand and have some proper space decorum and run the town as other towns do with procedures and rules and let the council do their jobs ,appointed or voted in it is still their job. I also would like to say The Mayor Don Stamm is a Salem citizen that lives full time at his Lake Floyd home. Unless some action is taken to correct these matters of residency for all and whom they serve and the duties they are intrusted to carry out then corruption and hatred will always be RUMORED away

The meeting on Monday most have gone OK because Fischer was not frustrated when he got home. I think people are finally seeing that the oil and gas company is not doing anything out of the kindness of their hearts, and that Salem can sell it's assets for market value with the help of an expert negotiator.
I also agree that meetings are not conducted well. I am hopeful that more than a handful of people will start caring about Salem.
By the way, someone started a forum here saying that Fischer should resign saying he is "a waste of life" and I still haven't gotten an answer to my question-Why do you think he should resign?

Tonight's regular city council meeting sounds like a good one. Boy, I'm kind of sorry I didn't get to see it with my own eyes. If anyone was there please let us know what you think.
