Now does anyone want to gripe about the indictments that were returned? Where are the posts you always see...bitching that the police and prosecutor aren't doing their jobs? There are a few of you who do nothing but gripe about our town, county and everything in it. Again, I'm simply AMAZED.

Hold it --- 22 Indictments came down the last grand jury when we only had the sheriff and one deputy without assistants to the prosecutor but frankly -- I haven't heard any b**ching about the police and prosecutor ---

IT IS ONLY A PLOY, to make you think that the prosecutor is doing something. But VOTERS PAY CLOSE ATTENTION; February 2011 Term had ZERO indictments! November 2010 Had 4 indictments. The 2009 year was carry over from the last prosecutors. The Circuit Clerk can provide you with the stats over the last 4 years.
What you need to look at is the amount of money the County (you as a tax payer) pay the Prosecuting Attorney to prosecute crime. There is a lot of griping about the DCAA and what it costs us BUT, They (the DCAA) are doing a fantastic job, and improving the numbers every day.
Since, I apprehensively cast my vote for this person, I have been watching the numbers over the last 3.5 years and doing my research. Call the Circuit Clerks in surrounding Counties, the information is available. It amazes me that since prosecutor Fitzgerald (knight is the family name and the niece of sheriff Underwood) took office, the number of crimes brought to the Grand Jury went down. Cases are being plead out or dismissed.("tough on crime"? A real frightening issue is the abuse and neglect numbers are down drastically. Does that mean that they all moved out of the county? or maybe they stay because they know nothing will happen. "Tough on Crime" was the platform and people thought that the last prosecutor was easy on crime, if that is the case then why have all the numbers gone down? Did all the crime go to the surrounding counties? Surrounding counties are producing numbers in the teens and twenties. The number of indictments and TRIALS have gone up in all the counties around us, but in Doddridge trials are obsolete. So DON'T BE FOOLED by 9 indictments this term, it is a political strategy. The next few terms will produce indictments and maybe oh maybe even a trial, just beware campaign strategy.
On behalf of the Police, they can bring a criminal report to the prosecutor but it is up to her to take it to Grand Jury. Their hands are tied if she won't prosecute it. Not one Trial in 4 years has got to be the most frustrating for law enforcement. When we Vote, We need to pay attention to the statistics which I will say again can be obtained from the Circuit Clerk or the Magistrate's office. Next time I will not bank on a family name, but look at the real ABILITY and EXPERIENCE of the candidates running for that office.

GOP Watchdog, That number has not occurred in this Prosecutors Term. I believe that the high number for the last prosecutor was 33 or 34 a few years back. I am really wondering if she has ever done a felony trial? do you know?

Clint Adams. Rumor has it he plans to run against Brooke Knight. A new attorney working for legal aid I heard. He's a member of the DCAA board with the 'have at it attitude' and what many think of as a personal vendetta to get rid of dcems. A bit biased, I believe and with a personal agenda on the subject as far as I know. Best to have someone outside the county run for the position and work to break up this tidy little group of cohorts who are running the county into the ground. Just my thoughts but be careful Doddridge.

Is this a joke... Nine (9).........You mean to tell me that only NINE felonies have been committed since this past term. Nine indictments is an embarassment. Keeping up with all the crime that has occurred in recent months (Burglaries, etc.) the Police are not doing thier job either. There is something that the Police are required to do, it is called PATROL.........All the Police in this county do is REACT and REPORT crime they do not investigate nor solve anything (with the exception of maybe the State Police). The Sheriff's Department is a complete joke...No leadership, No direction, No anything. Think about it, with the addition of all the personnel...when is the last time you seen any of them..where are they at? what do they do?...and I dont want to hear all the BS from people how they do this or that....I KNOW they are not doing squat.......I KNOW what goes on and what they SHOULD be doing. Can not wait until 2012 we will have a professional Sheriff's Department with leadership and direction...and I'm sure the current staff will then do as they should or there will be ALOT of new faces.

I got a good question for you......Those numbers you are talking about have nothing to do with the Prosecutor...They DO NOT investigate the crimes......So here is the question...Who were the OFFICERS worrking at that time....I know.Check those numbers..and who the OFFICERS were. I can tell you that the officers that worked those cases are not working in the county anymore.

Hell Amazed, I have two cases in Taylor County where overdoses caused by C.I.'s were not prosecuted at all... one was out on Bond for assaulting a police officer in Bridgeport when a 19 year old girl dies in his bed of alchohol and drugs... DIDNT EVEN VIOLATE HIS BOND... HOW is this possible without corruption?

I apologize for the lengthly posts, I am out of town part of the week and don't get a chance to respond quickly. Gotta Get the numbers right too..... Indictments 7.
Clint? I would like to take that compliment and run with it.(not many pay compliments on here. And to be thrown in the integrity bucket of Clint, Well I am pleased) although I am not Clint nor am I an attorney I do like to compare how Doddridge County is doing with prosecution and other issues compared to other counties. The current prosecutor campaigned on her maiden name (Knight, and everyone knows her dad) not her married name and that carried a lot of weight, but it is ashamed that the experience she claimed she had and what she actually did in Harrison County are two TOTALY different things.(Lets call it inside information obtained easily). The RUMOR that is circulating is that the reason Shaffer endorsed her is because he really wanted to replace her with someone who would go to trial, get involved in Abuse and neglects and not dismiss or plead down to a misdemeanor if it appears that there will be a trial. I have watched and checked with North Central Jail they have I believe 9 counties they service, and why then are all the counties around us up in numbers? I truly feel for Police, they may bring these cases to her then she sits on them. And what about CPS I am sure they are totally frustrated with that situation. and in the mean time those children have no one to protect them. So far as the Sheriff, Blood runs thick you think he does not do his job? Well I will say again she is his Niece.(one would think that would be a conflict, but Doddridge County not so)
The thing I see with this board is there are many folks involved with dcems that would not know the truth if it slapped them in the face, they are the ones who slander anyone else posting on here. They have taken this whole emergency service issue and turned it into a pity party and the "DCAA is out to get us." NO if you guys would have done your job in the first place and not lie and try to convince the public that you are the victims.... maybe things would have been different. You had every opportunity to be part of the DCAA but you did not want to give up your Power and control. Get over it. And I will drop that issue there, it seems as though every post with a different agenda ends up talking about the poor dcems. I am done with that. There are people out here who would like to post FACTS to give Voters something to think about. When an elected official is not doing their job, they cannot go back and change the numbers over the last four years.(unlike the Sheriff who is invincible) All I am Saying is do your homework, compare the numbers to the last pa. compare the numbers to other counties around us. She may be pretty but she is young and inexperienced. like I posted last time, She will prosecute more in these Last terms of 2011 to make you think she has worked hard all 4 years. Another Stat, she is on her 3rd assistant and rumor has it that he is leaving also, so whats up with that? anyone know?

I am sure there will be plenty of competition the Prosecuting Attorney is the only elected position that the person does not have to reside in the county.:)

Maybe some private citizens will pitch in to pay for ads in the surrounding county newspapers to remind other qualified persons to apply for the job and replace her !!!!!

Those Officers who worked prior to this term, and you say "are no longer in this county"? Well, those officers were the very ones that brought anywhere from 13-30 indictments per term and had numerous misdemeanors in Magistrate Court. State Police keep close counts on all the work they do, if their officers were not pursuing criminal investigations they answer to their superiors. So there is a clog in the wheel somewhere. I am sure that State Police are bringing the cases to her. My question is; are the cases not being indicted but plead out or dismissed or even worse just put on the back burner? When the numbers are not there and crime appears to decrease, then whats the problem? Maybe Doddridge County only needs ONE Prosecutor and only PART-TIME? Im sure that would save the County bout 80 or 90 thousand a year. it has only been in the last 9 or 10 years that the prosecutor was Full Time.

The answer is not less money or less prosecutors. The answer is we need another prosecutor. I stand by my vote for Garth Beck in 2008. I hope he runs again.
