Do an internet search of Antero Resources and see exactly how much they paid other places for different things. Ask yourself if Salem could do better. I saw in the Sunday newspaper that they are going to have 2 buildings in Bridgeport and 500 employees.

They're not going anywhere. Salem is getting screwed by another big business. One of tonight's council agenda items is whether or not to sign a deal for $25,000. Other places in eastern Ohio and the northern panhandle are getting thousands if not millions. Let the city know you are paying attention and you care.

Tonight's meeting starts at 6:00PM

Well Antero can just leave Salem all together and go pay some other town that will appreciate 25,000. If Salem was being ran by crooks they wouldnt be in need of more money

I'm not saying Salem is being run by crooks-- I'm saying there's nothing wrong with negotiating for more. The city does not have to take the first offer. Antero is a big corporation that makes billions and pays way more than Salem is willing to accept. It's not greedy for Salem to get fair prices for it's valuable resources.

It may sound good in practice Nancy to ask for more but when big corporations are pushed against a wall they just end up leaving all together and then Salem will be left dry to some extent and we can use the money and the repairs they wish to do on the property the are using now. If we seem greedy to them they will not ask again and then what? I agree we should ask for more than they propose but lets not try and shake the piggy bank dry.

Your response is thoughtful. I wonder if they plan on doing any of the repairs they promise, or will they take what they want and leave the town to clean up after them? So far they have made excuses or simply said no to specific suggestions of things they might do for Salem. My hope is that whatever agreement is signed there is a way to be sure Salem comes out better- not trashed with more repairs that need to be done.

I just got an update on tonight's council meeting-- Salem official's asked for Antero to put in writing it's plan/offer to tear down the water treatment plant. They came back and said they can't put anything in writing.

Salemdailynews sorry to say-Antero just like most big corporations, seldom do anything out of the kindness of their hearts. Do you still think Salem needs 25,000 that badly.

Quit bsshing Antero and the oil and gas companies.

I made a living by sucking up and back stabbing at the gas company on Davission Run.

Just take whatever money that Antero offers, let them dump their frac water into the Salem water supply, and let their trucks tear up all of the roads in Salem.

How are you going to tear down Salem any more than what it is now?

You are all wrong. Antero is paying a lot more than 25,000 for the water they buy. The last meeting I was at Fischer didn't even know the difference between grantor and grantee. The first month Salem received a check for $40,000+ that is not small change.

All I can say is that if Fischer doesn't like the way he is being treated the he should resign. By the way according to the CHARTER anyone that is appointed has to run in the next election. Just like Govenor Tomblin did. Tell Doug he better file for reelection.

Start calling other colleges in the state, they don't pay B & O taxes.

He's running for Mayor-- and other colleges don't pay B&O taxes because they are non-profit.

Prince, you dumbass. How can somebody that was appointed run for re-election. Before you bash somebody else you should make sure you are not more of an idiot than the one you accuse.

You are an idiot. Other colleges do not pay b and o because they are NON profit. Not FOR profit like SiU.

By the way we all know you are getting paid by antero to make them look good at the meetings.

According to the HCC anyone who has been appointed to his or her council seat must run for election in June if they wish to keep their seat on council, the thing that is confusing is the charter says : each member running for council seat in the same ward the person who gets the largest number of votes gets the 4 yr term and the next getting the most votes will serve the 2 yr term. However now this has been changed to all running must say which term they wish to run for 4 yrs or 2 yrs term. just ask Ron Watson HCC or ask Natalie Tennets office
