Salem Councilman Claims City Manager Assaulted Him

An embattled city councilman is pursing criminal charges against Salem's city manager. Israel Williams says city manager Mark Jackson put his hands on him during a confrontation at city hall last week. Williams alleges that Jackson forcefully removed his arm from the doorway he was resting against, causing physical injury. Meanwhile, the agenda for tomorrow's meeting includes a call from the city manager for Williams to resign. Williams is currently under investigation for allegdly impersonating the mayor in conversations with officials at Salem International University.

I saw Israel the other day at Sam's his arm was in sling, what the crap happened? Now we have council people elected to serve getting assulted at the city building what in the hell is going on. We have the mayor's wife working in the city building, we have a drilling company destroying our beautiful Dog Run lake, we have council people elected in one ward move to a different ward and still allowd to serve on city council, we have buildings causing flooding downtown, yet out city council would rather fight and argue and yell and scream at each other everyone of them should resign starting with the mayor all the way down. Israel is at least saying no to most of the problems up there and when he says no this incident happens to him. Keep up the good fight Israel the other council people may be against you but we are with you. No city manager appointed by you all should have the right to demand you to resign, you work for us the people of the second ward and I want to thank you for getting elected in your ward and living in it. Thank so much !

I see the new city manager is going after the low hanging fruit . Initiating new fees to run the dynasty up there. Why doesn't he go after the hundreds of thousands of dollars SIU owes the town? Could it be because he's afraid of their lawyers?

How long has the city manager been in office here? Don't you people think you should give him some time to get things straightened out instead of jumping his case? All this crap did not happen over night and it won't be fixed over night. Give the man a chance to prove himself.

I think city council needs to wake up on these gas issues and realize that the mayor's opinion does not have to be their opinion. We elect 6 council people and the mayor has no say in anything other than to break a tie read the charter ladies and gentlemen I think you can track current issues back to this city council unwilling to do anything they just sit there and allow the mayor to run the entire show it is time to put a stop to this two terms is way to long for any person to serve. I think Israel Williams has a terrible presentation on anything but his arguments are very sound he is the most active member of city council and you cant help but kind of admire the guy for sticking up for his rights and the people of salem against overwhelming odds and an overwhelming dislike of him by council members the mayor and city manager. I would just like to say where is the christian ethic for these people to treat each other the way they do it must have flown out the window along with our city charter that we do not have to follow unless it is going to help with their argument of the night. I just thank God every night we are less than a year away till elections and I would be willing to say the entire make up of city council will change and maybe Israel will be in the majority, sorry hurry up boys do all the damage you can now because your time is running out. Change is coming bet on it.

Salem City Manager Requests Councilman's Resignation

A city manager's bid to remove a council member found no support in Salem last night. City Manager Mark Jackson requested council issue a resolution censuring Israel Williams and calling for his resignation. Jackson cited Williams' recent arrest for allegedly impersonating the mayor and statements made in the media as reasons for his request. The issue died on the floor without a motion from council.

Salem International Univeristy is not only stealing from the city of Salem. There students are getting ripped off to! Personaly SIU should pay more money to the city of Salem for taking away about of profit for Salem.(No more football, soccor, and tennis) Hell they can't even get a winning basketball team!I personally thank Mark is doing the best that he can do. And I agree that Jackson needs to GO!

After last nights city council watching how non effective the city manager was the best thing for him to do is just to go ahead and resign he can get nothing acomplished, here it is he wanted to raise water and sewer tap fees he was informed he could not do that because that it is regulated by the PSC, he wanted to take the parking meters out and the anwser was no, he wanted to buy a back ho and the anwser was no, he wanted council to censor and remove Israel Williams the anwser was no,they forgot to give proper notice to ordinances they wanted to read so they could not have a reading. He waited till the day of the meeting to call the lawyer to ask about what would be fair market value for our water in dog run but could not reach the lawyer because he was out so the city keeps loosing its money on the water. He looks bad in the eyes of a lot of people this morning I went to cottage corner this morning for breakfast it was the talk out there and people were either mad or making jokes. I was willing to let the guy prove him self but after last night I dont see any choice it the matter he needs to go.

That is the problem is this town to much talk and no action. The old people in this town don't want to change anything, You rather sit back and talk then get off your asses and change. This town is so screwed up. No wonder it is going down hill.

Less than 10 months till the election 3 will be gone and with Mr Williams Vote that will be enough to get rid of the cm, the mayors wife an many others.
