American Cancer Society celebrates its 100th year in 2013
Once again teams of volunteers will be coming together on June 22-23, 2013 on the track at Grant Field at Salem High School to celebrate those who have survived a battle with cancer, remember those we have lost and continue the fight to end this dreaded disease.
For the past 8 years, teams of local volunteers have worked tirelessly to raise money for the American Cancer Society and come together each June to walk the track throughout the night at Salem High School. Literally thousands of people have participated in this annual community event, and collectively have raised more than $1.2 million for the research work and patient programs that are funded by the American Cancer Society. Each year, one of the most memorable events at the Relay For Life is the “Survivor Lap” where cancer patients, survivors and their caregivers walk a special lap supporting one another and sharing their stories.
On January 14th, as Relay For Life of Salem, NH begins its 9th year, we are fortunate to have as a guest speaker, Dr. Juliann Chmielecki of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. She is actively performing leading research on the causes and potential cures for various cancers. Her work is funded by a post-doctoral research fellowship funded by the American Cancer Society. The funds for her research come directly from events such as the Relay For Life of Salem.
If you would like to learn more about her research, as well as the programs and services of your American Cancer Society, please visit the Kick Off of Relay For Life of Salem, NH 2013

In 2013, the American Cancer Society will celebrate its own 100th birthday. Over its century in existence, the Society has provided more funds for cancer research than any other private organization in history. Much of that research has led to some of the most cutting edge medicine and treatment regimens in place today. As a result more and more people are surviving and living longer after a battle with cancer.
