As much as I have disagreed with most of what you say, you may be right about this. Although I think 95% is a bit steep. I'm glad to see that you do not dislike the breed, and it's the irresponsible owners, you don't agree with. Breed bashing is ridiculous, owner bashing is totally acceptable.

Oh, I think the pitbull is a magnificient breed.......i'm a fan of their athleticism, strength, tenacity......I also admire lions and tigers......but I don't think most folks are truly up to the task of keeping any of the above.

OK This is the answer to the question for whoever started this thread.

Google "Pit Bull Attacks" and watch the video from 4/20/12 from Washington.

I will shoot every pit bull that crosses onto my property.
But I will say this. This was a vicious pit bull attack on two 11 year old children. A very brave man helped them. He got between the dogs and the children, and caught the brunt of their viciousness. Tore his arms up. Those dogs had those children trapped on top of a car.

But this would not have happened if the ignorant pit bull owners would've had these vicious animals under control.

The police have not found the dogs or the owners as of yet. When they find both, those dogs should be put down and the owners should be charged with attempted murder. If you can't control your animals you're responsible for them.

Shame on those pit bull owners. They should rot in prison for at least the trauma those dogs have caused those children.

Talking about pack order and such is much deeper than the average person is willing to think about when thinking about animals. Same most people don't think about what keys an animal to charge or attack can be as simple as body language

Ok, I totally agree that the breed is DANGEROUS. I have seen several pits that were raised "in loving homes" that showed signs of aggression towards people. People are ignorant of prey drives and dominance. If people are aware of these things, they would never own one because they would know they are never to be trusted. The breed needs to be wiped out in my opinion.

I raise and breed pit bulls. I keep up with the ADBA gazette and watch/read everything i can to stay up to date on training techniques and breeding.

To all of you calling the guy an idiot for letting the pit lay next to the baby, guess what, in the 1800's and early 1900's pit bulls were actually raised in families to be baby-sitters and watch dogs. They left their children at home alone with their pit bull to guard and protect. They don't view kids and babies as nothing, they will protect anyone smaller than them unless they have had a bad experience or were raised wrong.

Any trait can be bred in to or out of the dogs. As a responsible breeder if you see any signs of people aggression, you are obligated to immediately put the dog down. You also do not inbreed them because this does cause aggression.

I keep most of mine outside on a chain and some in a pen because you should never trust any animal!! I do however keep one in the house with myself and children and i'm not home all the time with them. This being said, I raised and trained him since he was a puppy and he's never showed any signs of aggression and is a wonderful watch dog. My kids also have been schooled on how to handle the dogs and can put him out on a chain anytime.

Our dog sleeps, sits on the couch or in the chair, and goes everywhere with us. Yes I still muzzle him just because I don't trust other people and wouldn't want anything to happen to my dog because of other people's stupidity. I do notice that everywhere I go, people are scared of him due to the stigma that has been left by irresponsible owners and breeders and this saddens me.

The big thing about pit bulls is that from the time you get them (puppies never get and adult you don't know) they understand where they rank on the totem pole. These dogs must love and respect you, not fear you or feel like they are nothing to you. They also need to be trained simple command words such as sit and heel and such. If this is not incorporated in their training then at some point you will have problems. I'm not suggesting you beat the dog but if the time comes you need to lay a hand to one you do it, mean it, and make it hurt or all you will do is piss them off. If it doesn't hurt them, they will think you can't hurt them and that's a bad thing too. THEY MUST UNDERSTAND HUMANS ARE DOMINANT... even little kids.

All of this being said, I have more trouble with poodles and chihuahuas. Every one i've ever been around has growled at me or bit me and the owners just laugh and say, it must be your dogs they smell on you. There is no correction of behavior. My daughter has also been bitten on the face by a small dog mix and had to get stitches. This is BS considering that our biggest pit won't let another dog around her let alone jump on her and kneels at her feet when she gets near her so she can pet him.

I understand everyone has their own opinions and experiences with the dogs, and it does take a certain personality to be able to own one, but i get tired of the irresponsible breeders that, for first time buyers, don't explain how the dog should be raised or even suggest they start with a female due to the easier way they are to raise. I don't just sell the dogs to anyone. If I think they will be fighters or the buyer doesn't have the dominant personality, they don't buy the dog. I also hate mills around here that sell the dogs (cheaper without papers).. what does that even mean?? What happens to the left over papers??

And body language is important along with fear of the dogs. If they get a wierd feeling around you or you act scared of them, they will try to be dominant. Don't be scared of them! However, if they have a wierd look in their eyes or act skiddish you should never approach one, look one in the eye, or turn your back to it. Respect the breed. They can be dangerous so stay away from them if you are scared and you should never approach someone elses dog just to stay safe. You never know how they were raised so be careful.

To be fair, the reason Pitbulls bite more people is because more breeds are lumped in under the 'Pitbull' moniker. Rottweilers, German Shepherds, etc. are all separated out, but anything with a remotely blocky head is suddenly a pitbull. There's no plain "American Pit Bull Terrier" (ya know, the actual breed) statistics, it's all 'pit-bull type'. It's like lumping all shepherds, huskies and wolf mixes together and complaining that there's a lot of 'Shepherd type' bites.

They're dangerous animals that's why. There are hundreds of dog breeds to choose from. Why do people feel the need to choose one of, if not the most dangerous breeds? Oh, that's right, to embrace the white trash "look at me, I'm a badass" mentality.
Well blacks are the most dangerous race of people in the world but we dont ban them. They kill and rape more people that all other races combined. So can i get them banned from my city???????

Partly because they're dangerous, partly because the type of person who buys one tends to be an irresponsible redneck who wants a "tough/aggressive" dog, magnifying the potential danger.

ummmm for all the people who think pitbulls are dangerous youre wrong the reason why they can be dangerous is because of how stupid people can be and treat pitbulls wrong IT IS ALL IN HOW YOU TRAIN THEM YOU IDIOTS!!!!!

pits are terriers and they think they are smarter than people

they are pretty smart but aren't loyal and obedient like collies or shepherds

when you call them to come back, they know you want them to come back, they might decide they don't want to do what you want

the problem with pits is that they are so damn powerful. when one decides he wants to bite and hold on you have a big problem
