I don't understand why Salem hates pit bulls. It seems like the people of Salem are ok with them but the city hates them. The city is supposed to be the voice of the people. Where has our voice gone?

They're dangerous animals that's why. There are hundreds of dog breeds to choose from. Why do people feel the need to choose one of, if not the most dangerous breeds? Oh, that's right, to embrace the white trash "look at me, I'm a badass" mentality.

I personally love pits. They are loving and beautiful dogs. Only dangerous when trained that way.

Okay that would be like saying you made a mistake (as in one American to one pit bull) you need shot. Just because there is one dog turned bad don't make them all bad

• If you look at the firearms murder rate per 100,000 people, District of Columbia comes out top - with 16 firearms murders per 100,000 man, woman and child in the state. There were 99 firearms murders in DC in 2010, down 12% on 2009
• DC is followed by Louisiana (7.75) and Missouri (5.34)

The states of California and Texas led fatalities in 2011, each with 4 deaths; pit bulls and their mixes contributed to 88%(7) of the 8 deaths. North Carolina, New Mexico, South Carolina and Virginia each incurred 2 deaths.

Really more people are killed by people. And any dog can be trained to attack. My Pit is the biggest baby in the world loves my child and any other kid for that matter. He is more likely to lick you to death. If we didnt have the violent people to train animals to be violent we wouldnt have fatal attacks..

I had a pit several years ago. I loved him very much. He was raised in a loving home and very spoiled. He slept in our bed and everything. I had him from a puppy until he was almost 5 yrs old. I had the same attitude you guys have until one day my mom came to visit as she always had. Two to three times a week. She came in and sat on the couch. My dog jumped up and attacked her. I won't go into details but it was horrible.
I chose to have him put down. I know there are other breeds that attack to but i will never own another pit. It isn't always in how you taise one.
It broke my heart to put him down, but that was my own mother. I thought my dog would never harm anyone, but guess what. Never ever trust an animal!

It's not the dogs the City hates, it the irresponseable owners that don't realize that without the proper breeding and training they can have a time bomb on their hands. The bad part is the breed must suffer because of it's popularity. The same thing has happened with Rotts in the 80's &90's and the Shepards in the 50's through the 70's, once a stigma is attatched to the breed it take's a long tiome to overcome it. Remember "it you don't train it, it'll train you" (kinda like kids)

I have always been afraid of pits. But this one peticular pit changed the way i think. Now i have one of my own,she is just like one of the family. And i love her to death. My grand children love their pit,but salem is going to destroy him anyway.I can not do anything about it.He was raised up with them.I live out in the country with a fenced in yard.No thats not good enough. So the cops have never helped me with any problem ive ever had.But you do anything wrong they are there.I am a law abiding citizen so where are they when i need them?Sorry that is another topix.Dont get me started.

a great dane bit my daughter when she was 2 1/2. it was laying down and she walked past it without startling it but it got up and bit her in her face. she had to have 18 stitches and the whole series of rabies shots. I will be the first to tell you that all great danes are not bad. i do not think that we should wipe out the whole breed. people are very closed minded here. you can not judge a whole race because of what some people do and the same is true for dogs.

Stats you are right. Guns are more deadly than any breed of dog, even a pit bull. No one is going to take your guns from you and no one should take a dog from anyone either. Well unless you are beating it or neglecting it or something along in those lines.(i had to throw that in because i know if i hadn't someone would have argued on that topic when it isn't really the issue)

Myth:1 'Pitbulls only attack people if they are trained to be vicious or have been used to fight'.

Fact: Most pitbull attacks DO NOT come from 'pitbulls trained to attack' or 'fight'.....most are from untrained family pets......

The problem with pitbulls is IDIOT pitbull owners......they don't understand dog behavior, they are completely ignorant of pack order, and completely misread problems as simply 'cute' behavior......these people shouldn't own a pomeranian with an attitude, much less a pitbull.

The above is a prime example......allowing a pitbull to law on a couch with a child to 'make sure they don't fall off'......laying on the couch in the FIRST place is a huge mistake......why? Pack order.

Allowing a pug or a pomeranian to lay ownership to the couch just results in a yippy/nippy little bastard who's annoying......allowing a PITBULL to lay ownership to the couch or other property is inviting death or injury to a family member or neighbor.

'He's never acted that way before'......famous words of morons who's dog just did what they SHOULD have known he was likely to do.

If you're going to own a pitbull (or any other aggressive breed) you better DAMN well learn about dog behavior and pack order, or at least gets some DAMN high liability insurance, you're going to need it.

I don't have a single problem with pitbulls.......I have a HUGE problem with 90% of pitbull owners.

If anyone is wondering why people hate pitbulls.....it's because of people like brent who don't have the slightest clue what the hell they are doing and get a pitbull anyway......then we get to hear the story about how 'He was always gentle and never acted vicious.....we don't know what happened....the neighbor kid must have provoked him some how'.

I dont blame the dog its self for being mean i blame the owners. I have seen really good pits but still wouldnt trust them, I personally wouldnt own a pit but dont hate on people that do if they are treating their dogs right. I also dont believe that animal dog should be chained up!!!

Treating their dog right consists of proper obedience training.....and I don't mean letting the dog sleep on the couch with an infant.
