I also heard that a young girl was killed there many, many years ago? What are some of the stories that go along with the Ryder mansion? I'd love to see inside the house. Like I said, I have heard many stories about the place. I would like to hear more...I love stories (good and bad) of the history of dent county.

Rumor has it that the Mansion is haunted. Faces have been seen in the hallways and in the fireplace while the fire was burning. 1 report of a ghost like child running in the hallways. It's a scary place at night.

It is very scary place at night. It is a very interesting place. My brother use to leave there and took care of the place. There was an indoor swimming pool in the master bedroom. It was very creepy...I just went in the main living areas.

To spring:
Has your brother or you ever seen anything for yourselves? Or is all this just rumor? Wonder if the guy that owns it now would let anyone visit it?

I have been to Ryders several times in the early 80's. I found the house to be cold and creepy. Very few rooms had light bulbs in the fixtures and one room did not have a doorknob on the inside. If someone shut you in the room there was no way out. The master bath did not have a pool, but a very large tub. Maybe I didn't like the mansion because of stories my brother told me before I actually was there myself....but still was very creepy!

orgy's?.....lol most likely back in the day when my parents partied there with Mike. I was never exposed to the orgy part or maybe I didn't understand it if I was. But I was never subjected to child porn.
I was however subjected to many sleep overs since the adults were always so wasted that driving home was a no no. I can remember that mansion like it was yesterday walking around without much supervision, I guess I'm lucky I didn't get hurt or into to much trouble. Lord knows I could have! Drugs, booze, sex...wow...that was back in the 70's when I was little. I don't doubt there were many "wrong" things that happened in that place.
The wing to the left I remember old lady Ryder living in and we were to never disturb her. I'm not sure if she passed away before they moved or maybe that's why they moved...was she the Alina you mentioned "hey"?
I remember the Forkosh's cooking for they Ryders and living in the quarters above the multi car garage.
The wine celler in the lowerlevel with the huge wrought iron gate my childhood friends and I used to play in ...probably pretending to be locked up in there...lol
There was a fencing room down there too...I remember getting "scared" for my daddy as they would dress up in those white suits and fence.
Each of those bedrooms (that I had slept in several differnt times) were themed with a color and had a matching marble egg with a brass stand. They were connected together with a bathroom between them. The master suite in the main level had the most amazing marble tub with a depth that would have been over my head as a child...at least two or three steps down into it.
The gormet kitchen had a wet bar leading into the great room where you could even make your own soda...carbonaited water and flavored syrups...how fun was that for a little kid eh?
wow...what memories are flashing back to me. I was always amazed with that place. That was soooo many years ago and it seems like yesterday to remember it all and that winding paved road.
The Ryders also built the cinima in Salem, my Grandfather used to run the projectors there.
I wonder what would have happened to that mansion had the Ryders never moved away....
