I am thinking I would like to start a scholarship fund to help local white kids from low income families attend college. Would anyone be interested in investing with me?

Crazy is exactly right. I would like to do something to help end racism in this country so I am proposing this as a two for one good deal for the young people of America. Every year someone who needs it gets a little help to try to make a better life for themselves and at the same time it shows how ridiculous things like this are

We are never going to be able to accept one another regardless of race if we continue to exclude based only on the color of a persons skin. It's a two way bridge and we must meet in the middle.

Seriously, 10 people giving just 10 dollars to month to a scholarship fund will be 1500 a year scholarship. That's as painless of an investment in a great cause as you can make.

Why just low income? Middle income kids are just as deserving.

That's a fair question. Maybe I was hasty in making that call. I would propose that the majority of the people who invest in the scholarship fund would not only decide the income level but would also vote on who receives the award.

Thanks! Wouldn't this be an awesome thing to see? Real grassroots change starting in small town middle America?

I must say, the overt racism on display in this forum is just delightful.

I see we can add another fine quality to Georgia's long list of kind, humane, warm, intelligent attributes.

Bill Maher: being Republican doesn't mean you're racist, but if you're racist, chances are you're a Republican.

I agree with Ron, awarding a scholarship based on a persons race is overt racism, and I believe that was exactly Pauls point. Count me in, I will contribute to help bring attention to the cause.

I'd love to hear your ideas on ending racism then. Geez because what we have been doing is working so well right? Having organizations that remind us of our differences just keeps the old rules in play.

You crack me up girl! But you are also right on the money, its our own faults we see in others that annoy us the most. Ronnie seems to struggle with control and hate. Have you seen my van Zant is mentally ill symptoms say thread?

How about a scholarship based on academic achievement instead of race or income. Oh wait, they already have that. Your idea is going to give handouts to people who already get handouts because their parents spend their time at the bar and buying smokes at Wal Mart instead of tending to their home.

My main idea here was to try to show that a lot of the racist that still exists in this country could be eliminated if we just stopped bringing attention to the fact we aren't all the same color. The reason I suggested low income to start with was for the reason you being up now, would we rather give a kid a hand now and hope they get off the government tit because of it, or see the cycle continue and pay for either their kids or their time in jail, but I am open to a majority decision for income level, it doesn't affect the main goal of ending racism. I believe this could be a good thing.
