I have never been to such a crappy shop.I took my car in to have it fixed to pass inspection, ended up with a cracked windshield. Not to mention they smoked in my car as they took it for a 40 mile joyride.

Everytime I've went to Park Street Tire I've had good and speedy service.
I'm not saying you're lying, but I can't see Frank letting his shop be ran that way.

Well I don't know who was there the day I went to get my car fixed. I do know they were in there late 20's early 30's.It was inspected right before I took it in.I also wrote my mileage down & there was no crack in my windshield ...Maybe it was just an off day for them,But I will never take my business there again.

well when you do a vehicle diagnostics, it has to be hooked to a computer and drivin, alot of people who are not mechanics dont understand that, you have to look at it from their point of view....someone brings in a car and says well its doin this and this only..well thay may be what you thinkk, but their are alot of specifications on what else could be the problem..their mechanics for a reason. they not only drive the care while hooked up to a computer, but if they suspect another problem they have to troubleshoot and diagnose other possible symptoms..a broken windshield though, yeah thats bad i agree, id definitly do something about that, i agree!!

Just curious for my own concerns. You don't drive it anymore when you have to check the brakes for the inspection? The place where I have my inspection does. When they bring it around for me to check out, they have to drive it to check the brakes.

Just curious for my safety

inspected no, but to do a full diagnostics report it does have to be drivin..as a mechanic for many years i think i would know, and especially a certified one...she was saying it was from being fixed, not inspected, so re-read the posts carefully...that does suck about your windshield tho, i hope things work out for ya

A car isn't supposed to be driven as part of an inspection, everything inspected is done visually, audibly, or measured and compared to factory specs. To inspect vehicles a garage has to have space available to park the car inside unless one is being inspected and a state certified mechanic. A state certified inspector does not have to have a drivers license or drive any vehicle. They must pass a test to get certified, no driving is involved. It would probably cause the shop liability insurance problems for the employees to have to drive every vehicle they inspect. Many mechanics who inspect motorcycles are not licensed as motorcycle qualified. They are still legal to inspect motorcycles but would not be legal to drive one on the road.
After working on a vehicle's drive or brake components a test drive is normal. Things like fixing inspection failures for an inspection do not normally require any test drives. Any mechanic who must drive a car forty miles to diagnose it is wasting company time at customer expense, not good for business or ethical.
Salem has very few good mechanics among the many places to take a vehicle. All I have dealt with in Salem will lie to the customer and charge for unneeded work and are very slow. The honest mechanics don't have to advertise and can pick and choose what work they want to do. If you find one who can't get right on your car and you must wait a week they are probably your best bet. If they can work on it immediately they probably have no repeat business and no good word of mouth advertising.
Anonymous reports are recommended in the case of threatening mechanics as we seem to have here.
I don't know that shop but do know what is required to inspect and repair vehicles.
I do suspect they did not break a windshield, they just don't break that easy. I've never seen one get broke in a shop nor heard of it. I can't imagine how that would happen in normal repair work unless someone has an attitude or ignorance problem and does something not normal.
Driving a customer vehicle for personal use is not that uncommon in some shops but will get you fired most places.

I was referred to that shop by someone that had good luck with them...Its a new shop in Salem so I figured I would check it out instead of driving to Rolla like I normally do.I have proof of my mileage but I have no proof that the windshield was not chipped before I took it in so its my word against theirs.I don't trash talk anyone..I'm just letting people know the experience I had there as I would hate for it to happen to someone else.

Thanks for the information, I'd be pissed off too. If more people reported problems like that we would have less problems with incompetent mechanics. Also the good mechanics wouldn't have to fix the idiots' damage. They don't enjoy that work or having to charge customers for work that shouldn't have had to be done.
