Need need need! So I guess you all are going to fork the bill for all that Salem "needs", right? Use your money to do all of these things? You have no right to complain about the problem if you aren't going to be part of the solution! Get off of your duff and build a store or restaurant with your money and quit whining about Salem not having it. Most businesses in Salem are locally owned and operated. Pay the money, open shop, or quit complaining!

What Salem needs is a face lift. Some paint and cleanup. The town looks like a Detroit ghetto.

The locally owned places is all that will work in this town. Cause as soon as they know you are not from here, you won't have any business!!!!!!!! That's the way it works here!!!!!!!!!!

That's why McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Casey's, and Walmart do so poorly, local ownership.

I think a Ruth Chris Staekhouse along with a Benihana would do well. Also it would be nice to have a Ritz Carlton Hotel to stay in. Maybe they will put a Bass Pro Sh in as well.

Folks, you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

I was talking about mom and pop places "as-hole", not franchises! Everything you mentioned is a franchise!

I totally agree with odacrazy1. Salem could really use a decent mid-priced restaurant/buffet. It seems what is here is either too pricey or in a setting I would never set foot in. Also, it would really be nice to have a grocery store that would give competition to the only 2 that are here. Mr. Gott quit buying them out before they can get started. I would move from here in a heartbeat if I could afford it, but for now I am stuck here, so at least it would be so nice to have more options for shopping and dining out. Basically, just get a decent restaurant in Salem similar to Dennys - mid-priced and has some variety. It's depressing when your best option of a somewhat healthy meal is getting an over-priced baked chicken from Walmart and a bag of cole slaw mix. UGH!

If you'll notice, everytime somebody tries to open a new place, there's a plethora of good old Salemites that get on here and start bitchin' about it as soon as it opens it's door. Prices are too high, foods not good, not enough food on the plate, the owners suck, the customers suck, the place is too far to drive to, it's not big enough, the entertainment sucks, no entertainment, drinks are too expensive, the menu is too expensive, the service sucks, the waiters and waitresses aren't nice enough, they don't cater to every whim, they don't dress right, nothing but a bunch of drunks go there, didn't have fun there, not enough wait staff, too many wait staff, etc. etc. etc. I've seen every one of these comments when a new establishment opens in Salem.
I wouldn't dare open anything here. The most unappreciative bunch of complainers I've ever seen in one town.
Go to a new place. If you don't like it, DON"T GO BACK!!!!! It might be perfectly fine with other people. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everybody else should dislike it.
Everybody I know likes their meat loaf cooked a different way. Just because they don't cook it like you like it doesn't mean they're a bad restaurant and nobody should go. Order the pork chops for God's Sake.
Please!!!!! Give these places a chance. Nobody's making you go. Nobody's making you spend your hard earned cash. If you don't like it, keep you behind at home.
And in answer to the first posting on this thread. I haven't heard of anybody keeping somebody from opening their own place of business. Feel free to open anything you want. I'll come.

The last good place to eat was Heeters. Ralph new how to give you a good hamburger and frys for a good price. And you could play 6 songs for a quarter on the juke box. Now Virgil Parker stands watch over those sacred grounds.

Spring Creek has good food.I agree with hybbufi yhfe it is a little run down.My only other issue with the place is they allow smoking.Im a non smoker and sit in the no smoking room when there are available seats.I will sit in the smoking section if I have to with no complaints about the smoke.Until...I was in there yesterday and two young women with a very young child sat in the smoking section. When they lit their cigarettes the little one went to coughing. They had no regard for that kids health. It made me mad. I should of said something, but I didnt.I just finished my meal and left.Thoes women could have sat in the non smoking section because there were empty seats at time.Well that's enough of my rambling.

yea that is the complaint i have too. Shouldnt have to put up with that while trying to eat,you should of spoke up, can do it in a nice way to still get the point across. Thats how it should be when your eating or doing something if you dont smoke. Thats the complaint for other placs as well as the bowling alley, you try to bowl and you got that all up in your face. He should of least have a filtraton system but doesnt. I think should build a place seperate for smokers to go to to take a puff so the ones that dont smoke dont have to put up with it, nor shouldnt have to in a restrant or fun place to be. you cant smoke in grocery stores and gas stations so cmon.. people are starting to lose courtesy and respect too anymore. It is sad, this town can be so much better to if we all let it and have so much more to do here if we pull together.

To the ones complaining about the town looking like a ghetto. Roll up your sleeves and go volunteer to clean it up or paint. If you have'nt noticed there has been some painting going on downtown on some of the store fronts by some volunteers. It is not going to get done if you don't put some muscle and time in on it. Quit complaining and do something. As of wanting new businesses to go in. Go into business for yourself. Do a poll and see what people want and go for it!

As far as smoking in restaurants. Is there any other beside spring creek that allows smoking? Not that I know of.
need to ban smoking

restaurants would do better if they would ban smoking .. St. Louis, Rolla and all other cities have already done this. Now if you do less than like 10% in food sales you are a true "BAR" then smoking is allowed . However in Restaurants it should not be allowed......lets get out of the dark ages and get smoking banned
