Sometimes while driving around our beautiful little portion of this great country I will spy a vehicle (usually an old, beat-up trashy looking thing) displaying the rebel flag in the window. I have even seen it flying from the flagpoles in front of some of our less educated ctizrens, and occasionally on the clothing of the unfortunately ignorant amongst us. So, in order to educate these fine but misguided folks, I need to remind you all that the rebel flag was a symbol of a nation that was created for the sole purpose of enslaving its own darker citizens.
Historical revisionists have created the myth of the "noble cause," that the south stood up for its rights against a tyrannical leviathan. Not true, unless you view it from the perspective that the rights they wanted to protect was the right of its rich white citizens to own people to use me for their own means. It's interesting to note that these same simple folk as still being duped by rich white people who want to use others for their own means.
The symbol of a group of people who desperately wanted to keep blacks enslaved is the rebel flag, as it was the symbol of the nation created for this SOLE purpose.
You would never hear of someone proudly standing up for the right to fly the nazi flag, would you, unless they were a far right hate group extremist? Same with the rebel flag.
Consider yourself educated and remove this article of ignorance from your life.

Spot on Mr. VanZant! The confederate flag is an internationally recognized symbol of racism and bigotry. It was first used to give the Confederate soldiers a way to tell their ranks from those of the Union soldiers on the battlefield. After the war, the flag was adopted by the KKK and later by Racists, Skinheads, American Nazi Party, Aryan Nation and other hate groups. The Aryan nation teaches that the confederate flag represents:
13 stars for the 13 lost tribes of white Israel
Red was purity of blood
White was the color of skin. If you want to be perceived as a racist hater - keep waving that rebel flag.

Ronnie, after reading your latest dose of liberal bullshit I think I will go purchase a new confederate flag and fly it proudly. I wouldn't call myself a racist but I think it will be fitting to have one of those negro statues that have a lantern in their hand modified to hold my flag pole. If you would take the time to learn true American history and not listen to the bullshit that the politically correct liberal textbooks teach, you would know that the civil war was about much larger issues than slavery.

It does not mean slavery. The flag stands for "states individual rights" it is mistaken for a racist symbol of the south. However it is just a flag. During the civil war like any other war there are two sides. One side was the flag of which Betsy Ross designed, and on the other was the confederate flag. Yeah one was pro slavery and the other was against it. However they the union was for having a federal government, the other side was for the confederate states of America. Slavery was an issue that they fought over as well but there are different beliefs of government. When people think of a confederate flag they think of racism instead of different beliefs in government. Which in my opinion is wrong. Yeah people in the south raise that flag more than people up north but I think it's all about where your from instead of beliefs. I have seen people raise the flag in the north as well. It's just an opinionated subject. I am just saying what I learned in history class. I just think its wrong to judge people on what colors they are flying at their homes or on their vehicles. I am not pro slavery but I am a firm believer in states individual rights. I just think it would be less of a political headache and an easier way to run a country but once again that's my own opinion.

I'm with you. It disappoints me to see that in the land of the free and the home of the brave we have allowed yourselves to become brow beaten to the point that some people feel the need to offer an apology with their opinion to someone who just boldly proclaimed you are stupid and a bigot if you disagree with mine. These liberal socialist bigots will destroy this country if we let them continue unchecked. Get out and vote people!

To buy your racist story you need to believe every one in the south had slaves. Fact is it was very few wealthy white plantation owners that owned those poor dumb bastards.

Check your history and you will find many black men fought for the South. They did not want to leave their homes. There were a lot that fought for the North also. The flag is part of our history no matter the color of your skin. Both the American and Confederate flag should fly forever as all our history.

Anyone who knows their history knows that the Civil War involved a lot of issues, only one of which was slavery. So to say that the Confederate flag is a representation of only slavery and racism is a falsehood. More accurately, it could be stated that the Confederate flag is a symbol of treason, attempted secession, failure, non-patriotism, and poor management. It's a reminder of a miserable time in our history. Oh, and it's definitely been co-opted by the racists and bigots of today.

Germans don't fly swastikas for a reason.

The confederate flag can be seen as a racist symbol if the person looking at it perceives it that way...and I for one don't. I'm sick and tired of everything being a "RACIST" symbol....have you ever heard of "Southern Pride"...the South would like to fight this war again, not because they lost the right to have slaves but because of the things that happened after the war by Northern people basically stealing their land because their economy was in the shitter...The noose is another symbol...well get over it,there were white people hung to and it doesn't bother me to see a noose. There are white's who hate blacks for no good reason, there are also black's who hate white's for no good reason, but remember this the Government has done the American Indian a lot worse than they did the Negro, and people are quick to forget that we did bring them to America...but their own families sold them into slavery...they should be a little mad at their ancestors also....remember back several years ago when some blacks got together and wanted the Government to pay them reperations for having family members that were slaves? Well I want some of that action because I had family die trying to free them....it works both ways...I'm not a racist, but I'm tired of them being offended at everything...and reverse discrimanation sickens me to the core.

first of all Ronnie Van Zant. is a racist bigot leftist I would go as far as to call this person A Nazi of sorts just on the other side of things. There is the far right Nazi and the extreme leftist type of Nazi both are anti American and corrupt history and religion to prove there point. The subject on the confederate flag being a symbol of racism. We can all admit that the confederate flag has been hijacked by many racist elements here in the united states and around the world and is being used as a symbol of white pride. On the other hand as you travel further south your going to find the confederate flag flying on just as many african american homes and vehicles as you do white people. The confederate flag becomes a symbol of heritage history pride in where one comes from. The confederate flag represents a people and a time in history when people had the courage to stand up to an overpowering out of control tyrannical government.Lets keep in mind most confederate soldiers were not slave owners in fact thery were dirt poor. The myth that civil war was about slavery is exactly that a myth. The Emancipation Proclamation was intended to destroy the southern economy not an heroic gesture to free slaves and keep fighting. The Emancipation Proclamation in fact did not free any slaves in the border states Missouri, Maryland, and West Virginia but they elected to free them on there own during the war. Emancipation Proclamation in fact did not free any slaves in the Kentucky and Delaware untill 1865 remember Emancipation Proclamation ratified in 1863.Another thing to point out is the civil war started in 1861 slavery not an issue untill 1863.Another poster suggested that the confederate flag should represent treason this absurd and very uneducated opinion so that I dont wast all of our time just google legality of state succession and if it was constitutional at the time.In conclusion the flag of united states had flown over slaves a lot longer the confederate flag. Our beloved stars and stripes in the world veiw represents oppression war imperialism world dominance ect.

The North had slaves , even during the civil war. I thought it was 12 lost tribes , The rebel flag denotes being from the south and proud of it . Most slave owners didnt fight in the war . This slavery thoughts came later and some used the rebel flag as their cause . It wasnt thought of that by the men in uniform . Not all slaves came from Africa , How many free slaves went back to Africa . Blacks was the one selling slaves . and Blacks wasnt the only race held as slaves and the civil war wasnt about slavery .

Lots of good discussion.

However, is doesn't detract from the fact that the Confederate states were creating solely for the express purpose of ensuring that slavery continued, ergo the flag of that nation is a flag symbolizing a people intent on keeping blacks enslaved. It is not a symbol of heritage. If you are part German, do you wish to wave the swastika and claim heritage? The great lie of the doomed noble cause of the south was not created until well into reconstruction.

Carry on.
