well however... I'm not going to argue with you of you want to defend a murderer so be it. . The ones needing defending are no longer with us to defend themselves. . it was still not necessary for anyone to be killed..
not what it seems

I am agreeing with non of your business. There is more to this story for sure.. He wouldn't just walk into a house and shoot two people. Murder has several meanings. I am a mother and if there was a chance my children were ever endanger in anyway i would protect at all extremes. the family of Marvin he is a great man that has made many mistakes that is what makes us all human. That is how he got involved in with this women in the first place. An to those who think they know the story. Instead of judging him. Think this through, why.. An to his ex wife i dont knw you i only new Rice. An he had a amazing impact on my life. He was a wonderful role model yes I am sure he has changed although i dont believe that he is a stone cold killer. I think he was protecting his child..

"fact" has it right. He did shoot her in the front yard and Steve in the doorway in the presence of the little girl. None of us know all of the facts right now. But surely nothing is too bad to kill someone infront of their children. I feel bad for both families in this case, especially for the children that are going to have to grow up without a mom or dad. Bless their hearts.

I know both families have children who have suffered from this. I know enough to want to be one-sided, but leave the negative comments out while the families are still moarning. I have family in law enforcement and I know Annie's family well. I know Rice's family has lost a family member as well as Annie and Steve's families.
I also know, Annie was not his ex-wife.
This was something that should have never happened, but it did. Was there a legit reason? Only two know, God and Marvin. However, none of us will know the entire truth unless it is revealed by either of those two. And knowing what I know, Marvin is more than likely not going to reveal EVERYTHING. It is human nature. So pray for all involved. They need it right now, for there were lives lost, and even more lives affected.

Thanks for posting. I spent some time with Kelly and the kids yesterday and for a few minutes this morning.

This is a nightmare for many people...there are more than one or two families suffering right now and they all need our prayers for God to give them strength and guidance.

I worked with Marvin Rice for years and he was one of the best officers I ever have worked with.

We don't know what happened to cause this tragedy and may never know the whole story and frankly it's really no business of the majority of posters on here.

People need to think about what they're posting and post with care. Why? Because there are a lot of innocent children involved here that don't deserved the hate and ugliness and factless rumors that will spread like wildfire.

I for one would have trusted Marvin Rice with my life.

Charges have been filed against a former Dent County deputy for killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

Authorities have charged 44-year-old Marvin Rice with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of burglary.

Police say officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) were called just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday to conduct a homicide investigation on Dent County Road 3300.

Annette M. Durham, 32, and Steven W. Strotkamp, 39, both from Salem, Missouri, were found shot to death inside the home, which had signs of forced entry.

Durham was the ex-wife of Rice, and there was an on-going custody battle between the two involving custody of their 2-year-old child.

Police conducted an interview with Durham's 6-year-old daughter who said she and her 2-year-old brother were home at the time of the shooting. She identified the gunman by name, and stated "He killed my mommy. And Steven didn't even have nothing to do with it."

She said after her mother and Strotkamp were shot she saw "Marvin Rice" enter her mother's bedroom where she was hiding with her brother, and physically removed the 2-year-old from the home while armed with what she called a "handgun."

A short time later the 6-year-old ran to a neighbor's house to get help.

Police say the 2-year-old was found unharmed with Rice's current wife, along with a handwritten document stating his intentions to leave the child in her permanent physical custody. The note was seized as evidence.

Authorities determined Rice was traveling northbound on US 63 in Maries County through his cell phone carrier. Officers from multiple jurisdictions were dispatched to the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on his white Subaru Wagon. Rice did not stop and a pursuit ensued.

Spike strips were set out to try to disable the vehicle, but Rice abandoned the car and ran into the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Gunshots were exchanged between Rice and pursing officers. Rice was injured during the shooting and taken to the University of Columbia Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri for treatment. No one else was injured.

On Sunday, officers with the Troop F DDCC Criminal Investigations Unit conducted an audio recorded interview with Rice who admitted he shot both Durham and Strotkamp after an argument over custody of their 2-year-old. He also acknowledged shooting at officers in Jefferson City.

Rice is currently held without bond.

Why is anyone on here taking up for an admitted murderer? If he cares so much for his son, why did he shoot his mother, in front of him and another child, no less? If he's such a great guy, why has he been fired from more than one law enforcement job?

Have you never made a bad choice? Are you without sin of any kind? I doubt it. I am not defending him. What I am saying is this was not like him. He is not a violent person, normally.

This is a horrible thing that should not have happened and now 6 children plus those from Annette's and Steve's side are suffering, not discouting family members. Who cares what anyone truly thinks. Why is it needed to make infamatory statements that the kids can see? ANY of the kids....You see to equate stating positive and asking for the negative to go away with defending what happened. Thw two are not the same thing.
