(Dent County, MO)-- Authorities in Dent County are waiting to see what killed an inmate over the weekend.

The sheriff says Brian Smythe died in custody late Saturday night. He was arrested Thursday as part of a drug investigation.

The sheriff says Smythe was taken to the hospital on Friday for a medical concern. He was found unresponsive just before 10 p.m. Saturday and later pronounced dead at a Salem hospital.

The Dent County Sheriff's Office is waiting for autopsy results from Jefferson City.

Four other people were arrested as part of the drug investigation.

Authorities say they found 26 pounds of processed marijuana, more than $12,000 in cash, and more than a dozen guns.

How do you figure we did we did him wrong by posting what the news report says? I hope you are right their innocence, but thats what they all say, so I'm not falling for it that easily. Its also sad he died, but that could have happened at home or work, it could be anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Duke, he was in the care of the authorities in jail and yes I heard from a witness who was in the cell with him, He told the man's wife how they screamed for help when he was dyeing it was around midnight took almost 20 minutes. his medical condition was reported and they should have been doing a wing walk every 30 minutes. at least this is the policy of the mo department of corrections but all bull aside it will come out in the wash and the news! and the ones that dropped the ball will haft to go to court and answer for their mistake, just a man who runs a stop sign and hits and kills someone he gets involuntary manslaughter no he didn't mean for it to happen but he has to pay the piper just because you where a badge your not exempt from the law
see how shit gets blown out of proportion, your first post said they screamed for 15 minutes for help, then you turn right around and say they screamed for 20 minutes, get your shit straight, love all the ambo chasing barstool lawyers,, you weren't there, so you don't know,, if negligence was present I'm sure it will come out, if not, unfortunate events, but heres another Idea, dont do drugs and you can stay home with your cpap machine, apparently all the pot he smoked gave him the munchees enough to bulk tiny up towards 300 lbs,,

while we are at it, why not talk about the lack of equipment and money that the deputies have to work with,, when a deputy can't even call for help in some areas of the county, as well, they need a new jail, an updated facility to make it safer for not only the deputies but the inmates also, but do you think one cheap bastard in dent co would vote for a tax increase to make that happen, shit they wont even put another dime into the school systems to educate their own kids,,, I think they do a fine job for what they are given to work with,,,

The way this is being reported is ment to inflame against this man. And convict him so to take the spotlight off the sherriffs department and their responsibility .THIS IS STILL THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. INNOCENT UNTILL 'PROVEN' GUILTY. Sadly this man will never get his day in court.Should being arrested with a proir medical condition be a death sentence? What he was in there for has nothing to do with why he died. My heart felt sympathy to his family.

If he died of natural causes they are not liable.......that's what will come out in the wash...jail sucks.....avoid it.

With my deepest regret I must inform you that presumption of innocence is no longer a practice in the US. Justice is privatized, you get what you can pay for. You will find many relatively intelligent people who will assume all who are in jail are automatically guilty of a crime or they wouldn't be there.

maybe that should read "otherwise relatively intelligent"
