go to wjbdradio.com for the story. This was an accident, but the person that did this had to have seen in their rearview mirror what they just did! But they kept on going. I hope they find that person and prosecute them to the full extent of the law. Love her or hate her, Jean did not deserve that. No one does. I will light a candle for her and her family.

Salem Woman Dies After Being Forced Off U.S. 50 on the west side of Salem
5/30/10 @ 1:25:31 pm

A 43-year-old Salem woman has died in an accident on Route 50 West at Hoots Chapel Road Sunday morning after apparently being forced off the road by a pickup truck that was attempting to pass several vehicles. Jean Black of Salem Mobile Home Park was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident by Marion County Deputy Coroner Troy Cannon.

Cannon says Black was westbound on U.S. 50 when the driver of the pickup saw an on-coming eastbound car and pulled back in front of Black. He says Black was forced off the northside of the road to avoid the pickup and struck a tree. Cannon says it is unclear if there was any contact between the vehicles. The driver of the pickup continued on without stopping.

Salem Fire Protection District personnel were called to extricate Black from the vehicle. Traffic was diverted off of U.S. 50 while emergency personnel handled the wreck. Cannon reports Black died from massive trauma and blood loss. After resuscitation efforts at the scene failed, Black was pronounced dead.

Salem Police are seeking to question the driver of a white, smaller sized, single cab pickup truck, with a small black tool box in the back who may have inadvertently caused the victim driver to lose control of her vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 548-22-32. The wreck occurred just before nine am.

Cannon says there is nothing to indicate Black was run off the road on purpose. However, he reports extra measures are being taken since Black had made controversial comments that aired last week on FOX2 TV news about allowing her sons to fight for fun. A State Police accident reconstructionist has been called in to assist Salem Police in handling the case.

Cannon says Black died doing a good deed. She was in the process of driving to Sandoval to pick up her friend's children from church when the fatal crash occurred.

Hi Brian,
I guess I'm exempt from idiot status because I'm a transplant from Massachusetts. Looks like everyone is still at it. I'm still mulling things over. Looks like the local authorities have already "looked into" this lovely event.
I see you are still at it, standing up for the individual's rights. You go, man!
Good weekend!
Beth
Yes, you and a select few. My point is that based on election results and the laws on the books the majority of the people of Illinois want the government to do everything for them, to he1l with personal responsibility and freedom, just take care of me like a child. I gave up on them 20 years ago and moved out of state, never to return.

Watch the CSI-NY episode called "The Gladiator." Shows
just how harmless this idiocy isn't.

Those adults that aren't trying to stop it are just as reckless as the teens -
with less excuse.

Things have changed in Salem since I graduated from SCHS in 1960. Glad I'm gone.

Our son has started this type of fighting. He has come home with black eyes, bloody nose, bruises,ect...He says it is all in fun. It is not fun to hurt another person even if they are willing.I feel that low self-esteem plays a big part in this.It is so sad that teens willing abuse each other because it is "fun." Adressing this problem starts with parents. I know "I dropped the ball," when it comes to our son. His behavior has a lot to do with us not making him accountable when he was younger. Society WILL hold him accountable if someone is seriously hurt or killed, and it won't be "fun."

Salem Needs To Realize The People Fighting Will Never Sto And Need To Stop Being Warner And Be Punished!! It Is Already Bad Enough Chips Mom Was Killed After Saying What She Said But If Chip Ends Up In Jail If She Was Still Here It Would Be His Fault B/c The Kids Around Here NEVER Listen To There Parents!! So How Can The Parents Sop Them From Doing What They Think It Funny When It Is Actually Childish Pretty Much Nothing Till A Judge Puts Them Behind Bars When They Kill Someone!!

I sat and viewed this story on the news as it was airing tonight and I can say I personally know who this mother is "not a friend of mine".
This mother has been turned into DCFS numerous times and yet they have done nothing, so it is no surprise to me that this is going on with ONE of her sons.
As for Salem, Illinois I have lived here for a little over three years and for the most part it's a very nice community. I don't think that Fox News is at fault and I am pleased it has been brought out in the open, being MOST OF THE POPULATION OF SALEM WAS UNAWARE of the situation.
Knowing that this Issue is out in the open maybe there will be some action taken so someone doesn't end up permenantly injured or even DEAD.
But I can't help but wonder where this will leave this mothers youngest mentally handicapped child.
I also do not understand why DCFS and the police are not taking any action? These children, ARE NOT old enough to make discissions or give consent for anything on their own...they are CHILDREN!
And most parents I know that would ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN to be put IN HARMS way LOOSE CUSTODY of SAID CHILDREN!(IT'S CALLED CHILD ENDANGERMENT)
IT's OUR JOB TO PROTECT CHILDREN AS ADULTS, SO WHY AREN'T THE LOCAL AGENCIES TAKING ACTION?
this child u are talking about isnt handicap and he is now living with his father and step-mom everybody makes mistakes but there mother got killed in a car accident. he might have some problems but he is far from being handicap he is a straight A student so i think its time for people to quit bashing these kids is mother when she isnt here to defend herself.
