I don't see why it would be a waste of money: they are good learning tools. Why would you complain about the students getting new technology to help them learn? I swear you people are unbelievable.

It's unbelieveable because they are cutting teachers from every department and there will be no money for the nice after-school activities that are already there. Yet, they feel the need to buy countless $100+ iPads. How about parents and students use their own computers to get online?

I will never understand why people are so quick to post judgement with so little facts. When I "called" the district office, I was given the "facts" to the question.(1). The iPads are being purchased with leftover capital money from the state. We either use it or it goes back to the state. With that money going to iPads, the tax payer is only contributing 5 cents in the dolor. 5 cents! I would look at that as on hell of a smart investment.(2). We are getting a 0% tax increase this year. Survey the other districts in the area and let me now what beaks they are getting.(3). Only like 2 or 3 teachers are going on this year. The state came though with more money to schools in our area. The old saying "when the facts change, the story changes to" applies here. I would recommend in the future to just call the the school to get the facts instead of coming to topics and be guarantee to get little to no facts. Some wisdom for you to think about.

All I can say, is who ever is running the finances at the school, appears to be helping turn things around.

Hope that helps.

And it isn't for every student. Only a couple of grades. I thought I was told 11th and 12th grade students would be getting there own assigned iPads.

correct only 11 &12 graders will definitely get ipads, plus other technologies we have already perchased from the last capital project.

this has been public knowldge for months.

by my scorecard
0% tax increae
adding enrichment classes
contract concessions with teachers
minimal staff cuts
merged ms & hs

its a pretty good start, now if we could just get some more parents involved, we see more success

I think it is a great idea. My kids went to a school where they were assigned a laptop their freshman year, and received the same laptop till they were seniors. We had to pay an annual insurance fee of 50 bucks and at the end of the senior year, we had the option to buy it for 50... The computers were turned in at the end of the school year and reformatted for the next years classloads. It eliminated the need for expensive heavy text books and provided summer jobs for computer majors. In someof the classes such as math, the kids were able to work at their own pace. Its a win win for everyone.

Hey not many ever let facts get in the way of a little bashing. This was in the paper or on the schools web site probably two months ago.

Most anyones questions can be answered with a call or e-mail to the school, often when they find out the real reasons for whatever problem they may have they have one of those aha moments.

Of course that takes a little time and ambition. After all it is just your kids education at stake. No biggie its all the schools or societys fault.

Ya know Apple is GIVING AWAY a lotta computers to schools in LOW-INCOME AREAS in order to get kids DEPENDENT on using MACS.

I make sure that ALL my Grandkids are fluent in Windows, to where they can DO ANYTHING on a PC.

It paid off, as they can do things their teachers don't have a clue how to do on a PC -including building them from scratch from parts right out of the box ...

Don't be fooled by the 0% tax increase. With all the homes purchased by the Seneca's and coming off the tax roles, the pool of people paying school tax gets lower every year. If this is the case, then the 0% increase is a moot point. They may not need more money, but you will pay more in tax because of the increase in non-taxable properties in the district.
