Has anybody heard how/if Mike Dupont has been sentenced yet for abusing the children of Salamanca? I know he was supposed to be sentenced sometime in June, but have never heard?

I recall hearing that it was put off for another month or so. No specific details - sorry.

He is going to prison for a very long time and he is aware of that. His sentencing was pushed back for family reasons. He will be sentenced this month (maybe it was today?) and going to prison.
By the way, teachers do not set children in the corner until they figure out what they did wrong. That is a form of child abuse. Students go to Time-Out, but they don't have to sit there until they "figure out what they did wrong." They know what they did wrong when they go to Time Out. After they sit in Time Out (1 minute for each year...ex. 5 minutes for a 5 year old, 6 minutes for a 6 year old...), they talk about what they did wrong and how to make better choices in the future.
Also, child molesters not only lose their teaching license (which actually is a big deal for a teacher...It's taking their livlihood away-but molesters deserve much harsher punishment than that), they go to prison - where they belong. That is where Mike DuPont belongs ...and that is exactly where he will be very soon. And everyone knows how much prisoners LOVE child molesters! DuPont will get back exactly what he did to all of those boys....and YES, there were more than just a few of them! DuPont is a SICK person. always has been, always will be.

I agree that Dupont is a sick person that needs to be in prison. I just don't understand what kind of "family reason" would have delayed his sentencing. I heard it was to avoid upsetting his daughter during exam time. What about the children he abused and violated? Weren't they upset during exam time??? Don't get me wrong, I do feel badly for his children, but I hope he isn't getting special treatment by the courts!

His son was arrested for drugs a few weeks ago- big drug bust. So much for Salamanca Cares program Dupont and his wife started last year.

I agree- he deserves to be in jail- but do you really think he'll get jail time?

He will go to jail. MANY more came forward. He molested a LOT more people than what the public was told.
Wonder WHY his son is such a druggie? Wonder is Daddy had something to do with that? DuPont and his wife were the bigest alcohol suppliers to underage children when I was growing up. Bet he had a lot of fun with all the drunk teenaged boys he and his wife had over everynight!

If you're not a parent, you've no room to speak. If you are a parent, and your kids are squeaky clean, good for you, and them. He tried to do something positive about the pervasive drug problem in this town; give him credit for that. He could've done nothing, like so many other parents faced with a tough situation. Better to strive mightily and fail than do nothing.

His kids and his wife have nothing to do with his legal problems. Leave them out of the discussion.

I agree that the Salamanca Cares is run by some of the biggest druggies and alcoholics in the area. Come on now, they should lead by example, maybe their kids wouldn't do all of those bad things if they didn't.

Michael Dupont was sentenced to 4 2/3 years to 14 years this morning in Cattaraugus County Court. The judge did not want him to be able to commit this crime again soon. Go to WIVB.com for story.

He did get jail time. Could be up to 14 years. And as for his son-how sad, Dupont's behavior has made victims of many people-including his family.

While I appreciate that most of you have conceded that Michael Dupont is guilty-I feel that many of you who were on this site when Dupont was first charged owe the victims a sincere apology for calling them names and accusing the victims of making the story up. Please do the right thing and post a sincere apology to the victims.

an apology? for what? Standing by our friends?
Get real.
We are very sorry this happened. What makes this so hard is that he really was a great guy and these 'victims' well... they are questionable at best and those are the facts lady. Like it or not.
AND anyone... ANYONE at all can have a child get hooked on drugs. Mike's still going to jail, but you're still going to be an idiot.

Justice was served today. Thats all that needs to be said- he confessed to the crime.

I am grateful for the verdict. One less scumbag in Salamanca!

I too am grateful. Justice was served in a society where victims usually do not see justice. I guess my asking for an apology to the victims was likened to casting pearls before swine

Don't be naive. It's entirely possible that he plead guilty to receive a more lenient sentence rather than take his chances at trial. It happens all the time.
