Do we need a college degree to realize life isn,t getting better or are we to blind to see, with all our education?

Native - We need a truly common goal - to get the City of Salamanca on Track again - the principal players are SNI and the City. Until they can talk with each other , with honesty, Salamanca (sans Casino facility) is going to continue to slide into oblivion.
I suggest that SNI is not that interested in Salamanca, having bigger issues on its agenda - the 3rd casino, alleged unapproved gambling establishments in the state, and so on.
SNI and City can destroy each other, in the meantime, but SNI has the trump card in terms of funding, has chose to choke the Salamanca budget - this tactic will not end - He who has the Gold Rules!
Dream on until positive attitude can be made!!!!!!!!

To make a change is simple.
Be nice to a stranger instead of judging them. No education required,

Instead of believing in what you heard ask them before you pass judgment.

Stand up and say what you believe in is worthy of your time and effort. Believe in yourself and stop being worried about someone else's beliefs, while passing judgment.

Agree because you truly agree and disagree when you truly disagree.. With out hate.

Stand up and when the rest toss stones suck it up and stand tall... Stand proud. Stand alone. But stand for what you believe in and in the end you have made a difference..

NOTE: Real name. YUP it is me. I believe in me above and beyond anyone else. And guess what? I have made a difference.

And until they lay me to rest forever more I shall try to make a difference without judgmental remarks and cash value.

Hope this helps !!

You, like many others, blame the Seneca Nation for the city's fiscal crisis. To base 50% of the city budget on casino funds was stupid. That money should have been considered "found money" NOT something upon which to base half the city budget. If you want to point a finger point it at Cuomo. Once again the white man gave the Indian a paper (agreement) and once again the agreement was ignored when it became convenient to do so. Cuomo admitted publically that the racinos are, in fact, casinos and now wants to establish additional casinos on territory which falls within the exclusivity area agreed to by the state. So the Seneca Nation is the "bad guy" for standing up to Cuomo? I don't think so. Just as it was with many treaties, they are only upheld when it is what the white man wants. Or, these agreements are interpreted in a manner which suits the white mans' agenda. People say "Why should we,(meaning the white man), have to pay for the "sins" of our forefathers?". All the Indians want is for agreements or treaties to be honored!

When will your spew of white man this and that end? I have to agree that we native people need to quit judging as if we are owed everything. My goodness at some point we need to do for ourselves because this way of thinking is teaching our youth nothing. Get pregnant and the nation and state will take care of you, going to work is not even in the plan.meanwhile our Casinos employee many white people our native youth are sleep or riding around all day because they feel that everyone owes them. While we doom the white people, our own people are doing us in. Why worry about the white mans budget while our own government rips us off? Nya'Weh for trying to defend our people but i think our people need to care about themselves before anyone else does.

Well Chief Talkoutyourass, there are several large-scale NON-NATIVE businesses on Indian land, especially in California ...

The difference there is they consult with actual business and real estate developement managers to negotiate to achieve a WIN/WIN for ALL parties involved, making a TON OF MONEY in the process, instead of littering the town with NOTHING BUT smoke shops ...

I choose to disagree with Concerned from the aspect that his logic is Salamanca is deader than dead with no prospect of ever recovering and thus any thoughts to a solution are a waste - Yes Salamanca is dead, but there is a way out with SNI and the city government working together. Will they? There are threads of hope on my part that maybe they can and will, and that is why I am trying from this pulpit.

And a Thanks to Tim above - those are good words and a good philosophy - we don't need people responding to this issue in caps with same old "you can't get there from here" - you can

OMG I was simply trying to explain that it is wrong to blame the Seneca Nation for the city's budget crisis and you attack me. Nobody owes me a damn thing and I don't live my life with my hand out. THE INDIANS SIMPLY WANT THEIR AGREEMENTS AND TREATIES HONORED! How the hell is that dooming the white man? If they're doomed because they base their budget on casino money they've done it to themselves! As far as native people sleeping or riding around all day, it's not just Natives. Many non-Natives do it too. They simply use welfare to support their lazy butts. BTW I'm an enrolled Seneca and proud of it. And I raised my Seneca son to be a productive, fine man long before any casino money was given to us. It is not whether you're Native or white that determines how you choose to raise your children. It is one's own values which determine that.

One other thing, I know of a non-Native young woman who will soon have her 6th child with the 5th different father and there are many more like her who live off the state and county.

Name the bridge - you go first - Concerned is indeed intelligent enough to be a good leader - he has many good posts - I do not think he's interested in SNI presidency

Scottyscoot has hit an issue that the critics ignore - there are agreements and there are precedents in fact and law based on SNI soverign immunity and a treaty history back to the railroads.

Just addressing current agreements, I think SNI went too far withholding funds, BUT, the payments path through the state was agreed to - as someone mentioned, having these funds as part of the budget was imprudent vision, but now it is what it is!

SNI has good leverage - another concern is that this fund denial , if ever resolved this time, can occur again and again, thus I am back to the scenario that both sides need to live with each other for any hope of success - a Catch 22
