Charlie, you don't REALLY think you have any deep level of trust built up between your officers and illegals, do you?

I thought better of you.

Arizona is headed for failure, just ask the Republicans and Pete Wilson how their political careers ended up in California after they tried riding the hate filled illegal immigrant band wagon with prop 187 back in 1994.

If they rounded up the illegals, crime would go down.

Police Chiefs who work for the Mayors of cities against this law or are from sanctuary cities think it will increase crime, but Sheriffs who are voted into office by the people are for the law.

What these so-called law enforcement officials do not want to say, is the law does not require the police to ask the questions in every situation.

Is it possible the law would make illegals more cooperative, since when an officer starts to ask questions about a crime and person are not forthcoming they can use the immigration questions as a way to loosen up information.

If we eliminate the illegals by sending them back home we will not have the problem of illegals unwilling to report crimes, since there will not be any illegals in the first place.

How do the police know illegals are reporting crimes in the first place - even without this law?

I know West Covina, Ca well. The demographics don't include a dense illegal immigrant population and I don't deny any exist there so you might not see how the LAPD Special Order 40 might benefit your community.

Anyhow, I think your right. Most illegal immigrants are unlikely to report crimes just as the majority of American citizens are unlikely to report crimes.

But if you look at Special Order 40, it in no way prevents a LEP's from questioning a person about immigration status.

Los Angeles and San Francisco are Sanctuary Cities but don't let the name fool you. In Los Angeles Special Order 40 orders police to not use immigration status as a reason to pull over a suspected illegal immigrant.[1] However, a police officer can still pull over any person for "another reason" and then question citizenship, even report the suspect to ICE. If a subject is arrested for "another reason" and sent to the County Jail , their immigration status is now checked by jailers and if they are illegal a notice is sent to ICE. This took effect on August 28, 2009.[2]

In all honesty Special Order 40 is really not needed anymore as 40% of the 10,000 Los Angeles Police Officers are minorities so nobody can really claim discrimination or the race card anymore (even thought people will). I live in East Los Angeles, it's a 97% Hispanic community and the Sheriff department is 3 blocks away, every single sheriff officer I see is Hispanic with very little being another ethnicity.

The problem with Special Order 40 is that most police officers believe it bars them from cooperating with ICE officials, this is simply not true. Los Angeles City will eventually be forced to comply with 287 (g) by either the County or the State, its only a matter of time.

Come on freebird, it's always about money. Follow the money to why illegal immigrants come here and you'll find a bunch of greedy Americans and the end of the line who rather hire them then you and I.

Anti-illegal immigration supporters demand that illegals get out of the country so they can have their tax dollars back.

It's always about the money!!!

In times of recessions Americans want immigrants illegal or not out. In good times Americans could care less about their presence.

This is a fact.

All persons who the LAPD arrest have their immigration status checked in the Los Angeles County Jail.

Well at least they tried. 1994 was a good year for the economy. Ca. was booming with high tech, aerospace, satellite building, etc. Now Calif is headed for financial collapse in 2012. BILLIONS are spent on welfare and EBT cards for illegals and their children. I work in a big box store and I can assure you that NO recovery is coming in Calif. It's obvious from our horrible sales figures. Sales haven't improved ONE BIT since the sub-prime mortgage crisis started in 2008.

I thought Bratton retired. If he did, then why is he putting in his two cents? Illegals have never cooperated with police because of fear of retaliation from suspects. These suspects are usually anchor baby gangbangers. Give em hell Arizona!!!

Your comment about the appointed city police chiefs and the elected sheriffs makes sense. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County in Arizona says he enforces the immigration law while under DOJ scrutiny for the last two years.

"Anti-illegal immigration supporters demand that illegals get out of the country so they can have their tax dollars back."
Well think about this. Less illegals mean less sales taxes being made at stores.(sorry to burst your bubble but illegals do pay taxes at Ralphs, Food For Less, etc. If an illigeal uses a ss# or tax id to work, even if it is not theirs, they are paying taxes as well)
Who ever they are paying to rent rooms houses, to buy food, to go to the movies, to buy cars, to buy clothes, water, utilities...all that money gone along with the sales tax paid.
With these unskilled, undocumented works gone, the cost of labor goes up, the consumer gets left holding the bill. All of a sudden the cost of living will cost more. yet we are getting paid the same.
(you dont think it will happen soon, look at the gas industry, they are itching to spike up prices like they did when Katrina happened, why wouldnt other industries?)
You are right, it is all about the money, but dont let rhetoric fool you. people think that all immigrants do is take and take, but you are all blind to think that they dont give back.
this is a country of immigrants, convienant immigrants from Europe more like it. where were the pilgrims documents?

The illegals don't make enough to support their families so they get government money to do so. It cost about $10,000 per child per year to go to school. The only one really benefitting from the illegals are people with money and businesses and government workers. It's not sustainable, that's why CA is broke constantly.
