The White Van

Is anyone else as tick off as myself and some of my friends that we were informed of a white van stalking children in Rancho a week after the incident happened? And to find out from our children rather then the schools makes it even worse! There are many children out playing all over this area during the day and to have this happen and not know about it is just wrong!
Off the soapbox

Thank God the school informed the children to be mindful on their way home from the bus stop since there are far to many parents who feel it too much of a burden to collect their own children from the bus stop. The incident didn't happen at the school and they were under no obligation to inform anyone. They choose to make the children aware for their own safety. You should be grateful.
There are far too many children running around Rancho unsupervised. Fairly shocking since only a few months ago the news reported the level 3 sex offenders in the area. Yet parents continually think back to the safer neighborhoods they had as children and open the door for the youngest of their children to go out and play unsupervised.
Perhaps if parents took responsibility for their own children and watched and protected them these incidents would be fewer and fewer.

It didnít happen during school hours or on school property. The school did a favor in notifying kids. How is anyone supposed to know about crime issues in the area unless you make it your business to know? Rancho is infamous for unwatched children. I suppose that is why it has the highest vandalism and graffiti numbers committed by children in Sahuarita. If you want your kids to be safe then get outside with them.
Start a neighborhood watch. Work with the police. Watch the news. It was reported at 6 and 10. Read the paper. Both Star and Sun report crime in the area. The Sun even adds commentary of the entire situation. If you want to know what is going on in your neighborhood make it your business to know instead of relying on someone else to inform you.

Let me get this straight. You are upset, Ann, that the school didn't notify you that a white van was stalking children in YOUR neighborhood? This is a joke right?

BTW Maybe the white van was in the neighborhood because "There are many children out playing all over this area during the day." (quote of Ann)

I'm surprised this topic hasn't had more activity. I've noticed the few times I have come to this Sahuarita forum the topics with the most activity have to do with illegal immigration. That is an important issue and deserves the attention of legal citizens but so are these. I hope to see more activity on other issues that also affect our community.

Ann; I understand your frustration but the school is not to blame. It isn't their responsibility to inform us of what is going on in our neighborhoods. However they go out of their way to make sure the children are safe and informed when they are aware of issues.

I have been in the middle school when an event was happening in a surrounding neighborhood. The school locks down so fast I didn't know what was going on. The kids did! They all had been instructed exactly what to do when announcements were made.

When my children came home telling me of the "white van" incident I was concerned no doubt. I was also relieved that the school informed the kids. I had seen it on the noon news that day and was preparing in my mind the discussion to have with my kids when they got home. Imagine my surprise when my son came in and brought it up.

For us to become a safe close community we have to talk to our neighbors. Share when we know about things like this. Most of all we need to take on the effort of watching not only our own child but paying attention to other peoples children whose parents don't watch them.

Rancho has quickly become the ghetto of the area of GV and Sahuarita. When you pack so many people into a confined area with cheap housing what do you expect to get? Just like packing prisoners into cells. Thank Bob Sharpe for collecting his money and developing a community that is quickly becoming an eye sore to the area as a result of graffiti, un-parented children playing out in the streets, and many un-maintained homes. Stop blaming the schools on not being a parent.
