and then the people who have less than you tell YOU to lower YOUR lifestyle and give it away..middle class is indulgnet, you are correct..but i prefer to live in a society that does not dictate to me where or how my money is spent.or, who should get mine- inherited or worked for...in fact, i would love to be rich enough to have those issues!
No one is suggesting how much the rich should or should not give away.

My point is that the celebrities are hypocritical as it relates to the various causes that they espouse.

For example, they pretend to be concerned about global warming when in fact they live in 20,000 square foot palaces and own 20 cars (including token Priusís). And they pretend to know about war. Yet they are never personally touched by it or have neighbors who are.

If the celebrities want to enjoy their incredible wealth, thatís fine. They just shouldnít pretend to be in touch with these significant issues unless they are personally willing to sacrifice on their behalf. Otherwise itís pure hypocrisy.

Snore...thud...whoops...'BJ's' on the front lawn again, Mom...

'BJ'(lol...didn't ANYONE ever clue him in about those initials of his???), next thing ya know, he'll be flying around the world in a hot air balloon or something equally as 'compelling', like the rest of the rich trouser stains of the world that have nothing else to do with themselves, other than buy and sell real estate on a whim...or get drunk and smack up expensive cars...such problems they have, huh?

So in a nutshell, who really cares, Newsday???

DOES ANYONE REALLY GIVE A FRUCK ABOUT THESE RICH A HOLES
apparently you do, along with everyone else who posted the comment "who cares?", because you actually took the time to read the story!

The only thing I care about is that he's never driving at the same time on the same road as me!

Speaking of rich a-holes...why did newsday shut down the board about the spoiled J broad's alleged kidnapping? Afraid of what we have to say?

you definately have a point there! It's like the Al Gore syndrome..the message is good, the concern is important, but geez, you and your rich political friends keep telling the rest of US what to sacrifice! Meanwhile, to run your HUGE home for the past few decades was certainly not all "green"....it's like when rosie o'donnell speaks out against guns, yet her bodyguards have them! or tells me how to be good to homeless people, yet kicks them the hell off of her front lawn !! your point is well taken.

How come his hot wife was kicked off that cooking show? She did come off as stupid, but what eye candy!

I think it's wonderful that our very own "Piano Man" chooses to stay on Long Island. I think that house is an amazing gift to his lucky wife and I wish them both decades of happiness in their new home.

Why don't they ALL (celebrities) start putting their money where their mouths are?? Live in a nice home and donate more to charities which they claim to be so concerned about. Nobody needs a home that large or expensive and it's not just Joel - it's Clooney (villa on Lake Como, Italy), Brad & Angelina, Madonna. I know they all contribute to charities, but let's face it - if they are purchasing homes like this -they can certainly afford to give more!
Maybe Newsday should post a list of just how much Billy Joel has given toward the betterment of Long Island and the surrounding waters. He also didn't run to Hollywood...he pays his taxes here. Go talk to the fishermen on the East End....they know the score.
