You know it is now getting close to the election and we really have no candidates that seem to be coming out of the woodwork.I was contemplatng a run but I would make every officials lifes miserable because I would demand to have many things changed.I would not let the present officials lead the village ideas anymore nor to continue down the present wrong path.I would demand it goes back to the vote of the owners.I would demand the owners vote for what is right for there village. No more back door meeing,no more contracting fees[ the owners will have there choice of free competitive bidding for the work they need done],no more no bid contracts,no more using village vehicles on your personal time,no more harassment of the small busineses in town as the present path by our present staff will eventally turn it into a ghost town.We need to put a temporary halt on the rental permits given now that we are at only 74% owner occupied homes.I would not deny them a permit but they can only apply once the rental permits are below the then allowed 20% capacity which we will enforce with extremely heavy fines for violators.Noise and overcrowding complaints made will be issued a complaint number that will be assigned to a specific code enforcer who bascally will be your contact until your complaint has been satisfied. You people envisioned a functioning village and that will be the start of it.At the meetings you will not be there just to listen to what your present staff wants but you will be the voice of the future laws that will be enacted. The new village will be future of the direction set by the owner occupied home owners.Want a new leader.Well I have not decided yet but will have to soon.Sadly I am not in tune with the goals and direction of 2 of the 3 positions up for bid and no other interesting candidates seem to be easing my anxiety for a sucessful future of our vilage.Regards
I agree with a few of your ideas, but heres my question. Do you think renters should be able to vote or have a say in the village affairs? You seem to be saying only OWNERS have rights. Maybe you didnt mean that.

Carol paid her taxes yesterday so now you got nothin to bitch about. Why Do you think renters should be able to vote? It should only be owners of houses. By your theory, if I squat in a house and establish residence I can than vote in this election seems about right.

i agree that to vote in a village election that involves raising taxes and fees only owners should be able to vote. renters always vote yes to everything because it doesn't come out of their pockets. if you don't agree, that's fine.

To answer your question.Yes I would only allow votes that deal with budget items to be voted by both the owner occupied and the owners of rental properties..The renters will have voting rights for anything else posted that does not affect taxes that are paid by owners.I am still waiting to see who is running because we can not let the present staff get a chance for another term.I am well qualified would end up being the best asset the village ever had and would reset most all rules by our present socialist regime and bring the items affecting our budget back to the owners vote.I would demand many present laws be recinded such as [1] no more contractor fees. The residents free enterprise rights are violated by that law besides paying higher fees for there work contracts under the present law.[2]We are at 75% ownership and 25% rentals as that is an attrocious % for being a village. There will be a hold on new permits until we get it down to under and no more than a 20% rental capacity with the hopes of bringing it further to 15%. 3]There will be no more No bid contracts.I do not care who you know.4]no more giving paid jobs to your family members. This is not a family gathering this is a village. The water authority does not allow it and neither will we.5]No use of village vehicles after work hours.6]no more back door meetings leaving the owners out of the decision making process.7]Since it would be an astonomical price to create our own highway dept I would meet with other local villages to merge and cost share our highway depts.8]Instead of running businesses out I would try to draw them in by tax incentives and free advertisements.9]The complaint dept will have a total overhaul. When you file a complaint you will be assigned a code enforcer that will handle your complaint in a timely fashion not like it is now.Though there are approx 12 codes we will utilize all of them with positive results.Questions 1]are you satisfied with the present regime?2]are you satisfied with the code enforcement and results in the last 2 years?3]Do you feel you are part of a village where you have a say in the matters?4]Do you see an improvement in the area as you were promised?5]Are your roads and storm drains in better shape now since brookhaven dumped us?6]Do you feel at this point the village is going in a positive direction? If you answered no to 5 out of 6 questions you are ready for a real change, ready for the vision of what you really want a village for and only for the people who elected you.Like I said If I am comfortable with the runner up candidates I will not run but if they do not appeal to a positive future for us I will take the reins.Thank you--Regards

Although I like your ideas, the surpremem out deemed it unconstitutional for only property owners to vote.

As I stated the renters voting rights will be there for any other vote including quality of life issues except a vote deemed to cause the owners a financial tax increase.I will however welcome the absentee owners to cast there votes in.If they get denied then I can see a big civil problem lurking. This process will be done at the meetings in which all the owners will be asked to participate and this process[votes] will be done at the meetings by survey. That is why we will need major owner meeting participation. You will want to attend because you will the the ones making the future budget decisions.Another issue is that I will make it clear that the village lawyer is there not just protect the trustees rights but every owner and renters rights and complaints that can not be rectified by the chain of command dealing with village business only. For example you file a complaint at the village office.you will then get a complaint number and copy of the date and time of your complaint. There will be 4 other copies made 1 to your assigned CE{ code enforcer]1]to the head of CE 1] to the village administrator and 1] to my mail box so I can see what is going on presently. If it is an A/m p/m problem then it will be disperced to 2 CE.If all fails within a reasonable time period then to the village attorney.Yes I will make sure he earns his pay.A successful village is all about elected officials transparency[presently none],better our quality of life[presently failed, reduce the rental factor[above and beyond failure]Presently 25% which is attrocious for a village. Will bring it down to 20% but hopefull further down to 15% capacity.Residents participation in future budgets[presently none whatsoever unless you call there back door meetings your input.Bring back your freedom to choose your own contractor for work performed on your home which is your right for the competative process.[big no and presently your repairs are offset by limited bidding and upper high end prices. This next one is a big one--ACCOUNTABILITY[big failure here]At the meetings they will not answer you when questioned but have the lawyer intervene and answer the questions in a way he is insulting the questionaire. Is this a village where businesses flourish[failed--not here at the present time or within the last 2 years.Presently we have a bunch of part time trustees trying to do a full time job. They dont even answer messages unless they know the person.[sorry another Failure].What they really fail to realize is what they want and what the residents want in our vilage are totally different views and visions. We want a village for the people and they want a village that will benefit only themselves and there family and friends.Myself I am a homeowner, and do not want a village to enhance my lifestyle but all our lifestyles and can be very crude to anyone on the board that does not stay focused to the visions that were beset upon them to enhance the quality of life of all residents in our[yes our]village.Again I am presently not looking to run but a successful candidate should follow most of these forum factors but if I am not convinced of a candidate with some potential I may again take the reins which will not be a positive factor for the rest of the board if they want to continue to try to go in the same direction.Regards

I thought Bill and Paul looked at the Hampton Bays meeting.
I did not think Gary looked like he knew what he was talking about on news 12,and why is Gary on news 12 without the mayor.
I think Gary is trying to back stab the mayor like he did with Paul.

If we lose 200--300 homes we definitely have to think of shuting this village down for good. That would be the only good thing if it happened.

Gary is out for Gary and his family. Gary and his family should be gone after the March election, I for one will not vote for him or that guy Nick from the PCCA. This group has to much control over the village.
I would vote for Carol and Bill, and would like to see Paul run but not as Mayor.
Like "Its good to be Gary" said ,Paul did look good at that Hampton Bays meeting.

lets say there are 200 fewer houses paying village taxes if they are sold to the state which i believe is your scenario. And lets say they pay $300 a year in village taxes. That would be a reduction in village tax receipts of $60,000. And, lets say there are 5,000 houses which would need to pick up the slack. OMG, that would mean a tax increase of $12 per house per year ($1 per month). Oh the humanity.....

and the best part would be that the village could NEVER buy or control the land that the houses used to sit on. The TOB would STILL have control over the village and what they can and cant do to the waterfront. Poetic Justice? Me thinks so!

i thought it was the state buying the houses? But, I just think you thought the loss of a few hundred shacks would cause the village to collapse, not so. Did you see the villages new street sweeper, it's cool!
