Try self-service -- you might like it

There are 52 comments on the Daily Record story from Apr 28, 2006, titled Try self-service -- you might like it. In it, Daily Record reports that:

Gov. Jon S. Corzine's pilot program for self-service gas in New Jersey is a nice enough idea -- though it seems like a lot of effort, at taxpayer expense, to tell us what we already know.

Some people see it as lazy. I just see it as economical. I have someone pump my gas and it actually comes out cheaper then if I do it myself. People are just in a hurry in today's fast paced world. When someone from out of state visits me and I drive them around they are shocked that a person actually pumps the gas for me. They'll even change my oil for me and clean my windshield, check my tire pressure (not all places have this) if I ask them too. No tip required.

Corzine will do what he wants, you will still have your gas pumped and your gas prices will still go up. So will your taxes, cost of living, house prices, car INS, Food etc etc.... JUST BECAUSE you live in Jersey. That article was dated April 2006. They still pump your gas and gas has gone up and down since then and I think everyones taxes have gone up since then RIGHT??? I am sure Jersey folks have alot more to worry about, SO why worry over something so silly LIKE pumping your own gas. Might need to worry about the illegals that moved in next to you and how you are supporting them everyday when you go to work. WHILE THEY ARE SITTING ON HOME getting free health care, food and housing. At least they should come over and tell you thank you for making it so comfy for them.

Don't you know your Governor is just watching out for your best interests? He knows that you are not smart enough to pump your own gas or, God forbid, carry your own gun to protect yourself and your loved ones. He just cares about you. Don't worry, be happy!
Remember this next election day. The rest of us in free states have more freedoms and pay less in taxes. Think about it.

Why are you so fixated about talking negatively about NJ? If I managed to escape from somewhere I didn't like, I never would look back.

Full serve is the way to go....I don't get many luxuries in my life, I'm happy to keep this one. For the way the tax us to death in this state, we deserve something thats easy and (relatively) cheaper to boot!

I can't believe some New Jerseyans would want to get rid of it. Just think how this benefits the disabled and seniors. How many cold, rainy, windy days are you glad that someone was there to pump the gas? It's safer, more convenient, provides jobs, lower insurance premiums for gas stations owners, and actually like you say is cheaper to boot! I'm not trading in this one either.

Our full service stations do not compare with others if you can find them. It takes a long time for the attendant to come out in other states. In some cases in out of state gas stations they came from inside the convenience store. I could understand people not wanting full service for that but in my area. There are 3-4 guys pumping gas for customers. In out of state gas stations I was lucky to find 1.

Maybe it would be nice if we in NJ had a choice of either full service or self service, even at the same gas station. Sometimes I like to do for myself, such as bagging my own groceries.

In NJ, that would cause people to lose jobs and actually make prices go up due to our ridiculous insurance costs.

Some say it will save us money if we eliminate the Full Service requirement for NJ gas stations. That won't stop the prices from increasing. I rather keep Full Service especially when it's raining or it's cold. Heck even when it's hot.
i wish all the states would follow jersey policy of full service gas stations.; for all the reasons above and more. it could be dangerous for us to pump our own gas sometimes. also who needs that smell on our hands or gloves or clothing. jersey has very good gas prices on this full service too.
i usually tip the gas attendant anyway but i still save compared to ct. gas prices any day. thanks jersey.

forget illegals! Lazy americans do that! strippers that make more than i do can get free healthcare, free food stamps, get their rent paid for them and still have money left over not including the tips they make! oh and the money they get back from taxes is insane! they make over $70,000 a year and work about 3 days a week. and we all pay taxes so they can do that.
