The wife and I were looking in Larchmont/Scarsdale until our broker suggested New Rochelle. We fell in love with the architecture and area around Beechmont Lake/Beechmont and were wondering if this is considered a desirable area of New Ro? Obviously you are paying more for the house than for the “cache” at some of the other areas, and it appears North Avenue is being redeveloped so I am thinking it might be a decent investment over the next 5-10 years.

Thoughts? We are from Long Island so we are not too familiar with the area.

Thanks in advance, Aaron

I haven't lived in New Rochelle in 8 years, but still have ties to the area. Much has changed in New Rochelle over the years, but I always loved it there. The New Rochelle community has always been diverse and the people are great; I have not found a community equal to it! The Beechmont area is very nice ( always has been ). The public schools were always award winning schools and there are many private area schools as well. Good Luck!

Move to New Rochelle, thats a great place to live,I would certainly move back. So much has changed in the time that I moved from there, but it is still home. I have ties to the area and do return from time to time. Growing up in NR was the best. The area around Beechmont is good and yes the rehabbing of North Ave will increase of time. Schools there are great, I only wish shopping would increase but like other places you must drive to shop, (malls). Click your heels and call New Rochelle Home

We here in New Rochelle are very sorry that we failed Greg so miserably.

We tried so hard, with his spelling, his grammer, his syntax, even his organization of ideas. We even tried to correct his foolish and vulgar language. But, some people are just better off without an education. We tried.

You will absolutely love New Rochelle. Our few vulgarians have moved out, to the east.

We are happy that you moved, but you are still in the area! But NR is coming back! And sadly enough crime exsist everywhere not just in NR. Good Luck to you and yours in Larchmont.

I lived with my family in both Larchmont and New Rochelle. From personal experience i can say that the grammar schools in Larchmont are good, however the high school (Mamaroneck) is far from great. The primary schools of Larchmont and Mamaroneck Town and Village are not integrated, which causes issues with the student base once everyone is combined into the High School. My parents who are both Harvard graduates + medical doctors, decided to move to NR (Beechmont) because of the unified school district and diverse student body. I have to admit that I found the High School very large, yet my overall experience there was great. The facilities are top-notch as were the teachers and curriculum.(I went on to attend Columbia + NYU law school )

Unfortunately i think the racial + economic diversity of the City are automatically viewed as negatives by some, although there is nothing inherently wrong with either.

The neighborhood we lived in was very nice as well, with beautiful properties/homes and nice, successful residents. Once us kids finished school my parents moved back into Manhattan, so I do miss the aesthetic beauty of the area.

I hope that you end up on the Supreme Court; but meanwhile, save up and buy back into New Rochelle.
Be as good to your kids as their grandparents were to you. New Rochelle is a city of great, warm, friendly neighborhoods:

I hope you move into the beechmont area. It is
a bueatiful section of New Rochelle. Plus they
will need you to pay the taxes for the rest of
the deadbeats who pay nothing. You can be sure
taxes will go up and up. Someone has to pay for the schools and library and it might as well be
you. All and all New Rochelle is a wonderful place
to live. Just bring money and plenty of it!!
Hope to see you'all downtown in the near future.

Yes, the taxes for schools and the library - how awful to support the wonderfully committed and vibrant schools of New Rochelle - and the library - oh, the horror of paying taxes to support not just one but two libraries - one being the second largest in Westchester County, the other being the only freestanding children's library in Westchester...and of course, with the library being a community hub for so much and a splendid resource - both flanked by great parks...who could ask for such support?

No one loves or uses the Library more than I do.
It is what makes us the greatest country in the
world. And also our schools but nothing is free
and we must all chip in to pay for the "Free
Library system". That means "ALL" not a few
suckers but all the citizens of this community.
As the Mayor and his "crew" are now gettng a
40 to 50 per cent raise please buy that house
as soon as possible so we can bill you for the
coming year. we need your money now.
I have such fond memories of the library on
Pintard ave. and Main st. Now that was a library!
Lets all work together for a wonderful city
and do the "right think" for all.
HAPPY NEW YEAR from the "Murf"

We moved to the Larchmont Woods part of NR 5 years ago and have met WONDERFUL people here. Our neighbors are all friendly, the kids go from yard to yard, we all chat and socialize. It's a great place to live! There are all colors and economic groups and that is a PLUS. All of our babysitters have gone to NR High School and are responsible young adults - very involved in the community. NR has great sports teams for kids, an amazing children's library/playground/train table/computer set up (I spent weeks of my life there with my son last winter) and more. It's becoming more kid friendly and more snazzy, especially with the refurbishing of Iona and North Ave. Beechmont is a beautiful area, welcome to the neighborhood!(PS. I'm a Boston native who misses New England, so this rave review should earn double points with you..it takes a lot for a Boston person to rave about New York!)

I hope that you have discovered CITY ISLAND, in our neighboring Bronx County. It is not unlike parts of Boston, and parts of Quincy.
Check out the BLACK WHALE

They have a great movie night on Tuesdays.

Also, you'll like Dudley's Parkview at Hudson Park;

And try LENO'S CLAM BAR in the Summertime.

I hope you have discovered Jones Beach, too.

I hope you move to New Rochelle its a wonderful place. I live there right now and most people are very nice as long as you are as well. Beechmont Lake is an amazing place to live around and always has been, ever since it was built. I hope you live there and see how amazing it is for yourself.
