OK Then build a bridge because they need to do something and if it would help with trafic build under my house I wouldn't care as long as I could get off the island on weekend during the summer without having to leave at 5am or midnight. Anything is better then what we have now mass confusion whyowhy wrote: Lets leave this island alone already. How do the people in RYE feel about it? How about the houses that are standing over the land they need to dig through. I don't think Howard would appreciate that part. The whole Syosset community (and those surrounding it) will be devastated with trafic that we don't need. NO to the tunnel

Geez it is obvious you are not a traveler if you where you would be in agreement but we don't need you to move foward. Oh for your info I am not far from where they want to do the work and I don't care as long as there is a better way off the Island. Also as far as the cost it would be worth it just to have relief. Geez wrote: <quoted text> Let me guess. Howard and the rest of the posters on here that so zealously behind this...1. do not live near the affected area. 2. Are part of the tumor on L.I.'s behind - union members who are forcing the rest of us to pay for their no show jobs, overfunded pensions and life-long healthcare. Instead of being told by this group of unskilled workers to "leave long island if you don't like it", why don't you try cutting in the real world w/out your union "safety net".

Geez do you really have an education because you sound like a dope. Geez wrote: <quoted text> Wow, that is some witty commentary. On par with the high school education that you probably don't even have. No,I didn't. It would be your union 401K that has made windfall profits on foreign oil. And then all you wave the flag on the other hand. And talk tough about the Mid East. Hypocrites! Our biggest problem is that there are too many juggheads like yourself around here. Go get in your SUV and cut someone off on the LIE.

I don't live in massapequa I work there nice try though. Anne wrote: See, Howard lives in Massapequa. He wouldn't have a tunnel under his house. This idea isn't new. It ia as dumb an idea as the idea of evacuating the Island with even and odd license plates. Remember that idiotic idea? Like that would happen smoothly. If you hate traffic as much as I do, use the train to go into the City. Go back to using 200 car freight trains like they did when I was a kid. Get rid of the trucks.

Make traffic worse? Wouldn't there be the same amount of cars on the road no matter where they are? Anyway, a new road, particulary a tunnel would be an improvement. And this isn't expected to be done until 2025? By then who knows how many cars will be on the road. The tunnel will be a Godsend! A private developer wants to foot the bill in a innovative way - more power to you!

Open Minded wrote: It is such a hassle getting off the island unless you leave at the crack of dawn or midday. The ferries are too far East if you live in the middle of the island, and it doesn't save any time, just driving (not to mention the cost). I remember there was talk years ago of extending the S.O.B. and making a bridge to CT or Westchester. That might have been easier and less expensive than tunneling 16 miles underground. We'll need more info before we knock the idea. Think about the area in which you are referring to anyway. There is a reason the Seaford-Oyster Bay expwy does not extend into Oyster Bay. Big Bucks talk.

WHat are you all CRAZY! 80,000 cars in-around Syosset! This should be a slam-dunk----NO! I can't believe it has even arrived at this point in consideration. So, OK, which politician will get a healthy donation-- fess-up! Suggestion: Put a tunnel from Sea Cliff, Glen Cove, Manhasset, Bayville.

Miss Crabtree believes that by the time such a project is completed, it will be unused: Gasoline so expensive that no one drives anymore, or American civilization annihilated from imperialistic wars.

NO to the tunnel The north shore needs to get off it's high horse and participate in the improvement of Long Island. That includes building a bridge or a tunnel and if it has to be built somewhere along the north shore, then as simple as that, it has to be done. This is a new era. Long Island can only expand so far sideways. East to West. It's time for North and South now.

its a brilliant idea, but the proposed tunnel would run right through my backyard or under my house. thats my opposition. im not to worried about it.. it beats an extension of 135 and a bridge, at least i'll still have the woods behind my house

With sll respects to those who offered an opinion, why not consider building a tunnel from the William Floyd Parkway in Shoreham to Conn.? While it doesn't undermine those living on he "gold coast" of LI, it does offer an opinion that may be more suitable.

tunnel schmunnel...you guy are all clowns. and to think that 90% of the people whining about how hard it is to get off the island are all living in Nassau, a short drive off. quit your bellyaching and drive off when its not rush hour morons. i live out east, hop on the ferry anytime i need to get off, 100% stress free, im relaxing on the deck watching friggin birds and lighthouses while a bunch of jerkoffs sit and bumper to bumper traffic all the way from the cross island through new haven. anyway, its true a tunnel would bring more people and more traffic. wouldnt solve a damn thing. i am fully convinced of what everyones been saying - up island people are just plain DUMB.

You dumb A**ses....how can the traffic on long island get any worse??? You can't get anywhere around here anymore. We're literally overflowing. The tunnel would by like bypass surgery opening up the entire region to increased flow. The traffic is coming whether you like it not and whether the tunnel is built or not. Just keep on voting "no" to every single forward thinking project that comes along and soon LOng Island will be a vast wasteland with everyone heading elsewhere to live and work. All the industries have left the area for Virginia, North Carolina etc, while we sit here and continue to wallow in the mire .....
