Please...drop the act.The applications are open to everyone, regardless of race. The decision is their's to go through the process, and meet the requirements like everyone else.I'm so tired of this crap. The minority in today's society is the white male age 24-35.How much more help do you want than quotas and affirmative action.Ugh!!!!

Some minorities don't think they have a chance of getting jobs in primarily white towns so they don't apply. You sound like a white man who take things like applying for jobs for granted. And the white male between ages of 24-35 will never be a minority.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!! It has generally been my experience that many women and minorities are simply not interested in becoming Firefighters. That simple. I speak as a minority FF. I didn't need somebody to hold my hand and give me extra help to get it. I found out on my own, what it took to get it, and prepared myself physically, mentally, and academically. The hiring process is spelled out clearly, and is very straight forward as to what the requirements are and how to obtain the necessary requirements. The sad truth is that many just don't want to put in the time and effort for one of the greatest jobs in the world. And if you aren't willing to put in the work to successfully make it through the testing process, we don't want you. It doesn't matter what color you are!!! This job is for people willing to work hard. It is for people that are very competitive. It is for people that are self motivators. If you don't already have those qualities, don't bother applying. Those are not qualities you will learn, they are ones you must already have. If you have them and want a chance at one of the best jobs around, take the test, but don't waste our time and yours, PREPARE YOURSELF!!!

PS- I am not at all impying that women and minorities don't work hard, just that in my experience, many have no desire to be a Firefighter..

This doesn't surprise me at all. It's just like the police departments trying to recruit minorities, most black men and females do not wish to become fire fighters, not because it isn't possible for them to do the job like any other person, but because they do not wish to take the risks that come with the job.

Many African American man do not wish to become Police officers because they feel it is a white man's job, or it is disrespect to their race. Like Sharpton and many other African Americans recommended that their race should support their race, and leave the police department.

Giving excuses such as minorities not having opportunities to join volunteer departments is a poor excuse, unless your stating that volunteer departments do not except Minorities. It's nobody fault but their own, if they do not wish to participate in community service activities then that is on them. Obviously the volunteers dedicate their own time to support the community, so they deserve to be at the beginning of the line.

The money issue is crap as well, all races have to pay the fee, whites don't get any discounts, and they work to obtain the money to pay the cost of taking the exams. If we cater to one over the other, I feel that is a form of racism. Hiring those with lower test scores simply because they are minorities is wrong, whoever provides the best background for the job, and the highest score for the test is the person for the job. The tax payers don't wish to pay for a service that will not be provided. The tax payers wish for the most qualified applicant, not the person who fills the spot simply because he or she is required to please certain races or genders.

You couldn't be more wrong.I have a great job,and it's not in a primarily white community. And yes that group is the minority.Read the paper more often and watch what's going on in this state.

I said "some monorities"; some people have told me this. What does your confusing comment have to do with what I wrote?

A valid question was asked, yet, you totally avoided answering it, insulted the Poster and dismissed him. If you have such passion about the things you say which accuse and generalize; then you should at least elaborate on what the "Heil" your talking about. I'm just saying...
